Hey, thank you for your comment. It indeed seems clear that the author doesn't play MMOs or doesn't understand how they work, it's like he's trying to apply single player game logic to a multiplayer environment. I completely agree with your comment about us living in an information era, which makes the mysterious nature of Shangri-La feel off. It's also funny that the series refers to Shangri-La as a 'god-tier' game when its design is absolutely awful as you've highlighted in your review.

In the end these are mostly issues for people like us that play a lot of MMOs, but even without these issues the show would probably still have been pretty boring since the characters don't have meaningful goals to achieve and there is no tension in any fight!

nice review on shangri la. It was very interesting to read.

Same :) I also like how it wasn't afraid to embrace its childish side when it comes to presentation, but also explore more serious themes. And Haru is my favorite out of all Digimon protagonists, since he is such a good boy :p

That's a really cute picture of Haru and Yuujin :3 I wouldn't say that I'm in love with Appli Monsters or anything, but it's definitely my 2nd favorite series after the original Adventure! It's just really nice to see someone being affectionate towards it, so I couldn't resist commenting :p

I actually didn't drop Xros Wars, I just didn't continue. I sometimes do that randomly, when I start doing other stuff, like watching suddenly other anime, movie, playing certain game etc and the mood for the thing vanishes or it's too long time, so i prefer starting over.

And really, don't worry. If it was random show or something popular, but not from a series I like, I may have just drop after few boring episodes, though I usually give big chance for everything, even if it starts boring. But both Xros Wars and Appmon are from a series I love, so regardless of how many boring stuff there is here, I would bear it. I somehow finished reboot, so there is nothing worse than that...

I recently watched two isekai animes. Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken and Kumo desu ga, nani ka?. While I cannot say TenSura was straight boring, though the first season wasn't rather exciting that much in terms of plot (it was too simple, but characters were amazing), though Kumo desu ga started as a gag anime at first and I was afraid it could be too comedic. But after a while everything got more dark in tone. So even if I start something new, I try giving a chance, regardless of bad sides. And both of them got to the top of my favorite animes, with Dragon Ball (especially original one, not Z, but I love DBZ as well), Digimon Adventure and Slayers next to them. TenSura became super exciting with first season, where things got bigger than before, but I still liked the first season, but it wouldn't be as good if not for the second one.

Also I like emphasis on character bond and development, that's why I love Digimon Adventure, it has tons of it. Appmon sounds like something exactly. As for combat. Digimon Adventure didn't have super exciting fights, yet it's still reigns on the top for me, so don't worry :) I enjoy stuff that has deeper meaning too. Like for example Death Note. There wasn't much of a fights, more of a psychology of characters. And that's why I love Death Note too.

Thanks for the comments :) I really appreciate the conversation.

EDIT: It turns out that I already replied, but MAL has weird comment system, so I thought I never did. Lol. If You want, You may read my wall of text, though...

Sorry that I'm just replying after two years, I never got any notification that I got a comment.

It's like You say, the old cast behave like kids with real life problems that they had and they don't just magically make a bond with their digimons, they accept them and they often have opposite opinion on things, but they often try to understand one another. Perfect example of this is Gomamon and Joe. Goma often teases Joe, when he acts like a wannabe adult, mocking him even. But he doesn't do it out of spite or hatred, quite the contrary. Digimons have waited long for their partners and they want to create the bond, as they form a catalyst for the kids' growing up, "evolution" of their characters, personalities. The crests are just manifestations, but the way they have to understand their traits is not just "power of love, activate". They literally have to understand the wrong in their doing and thinking, like Mimi was selfish or Yamato had to prove that Joe is his friend, not a foe. Something that lacks in many shows, not just Digimon Adventure:, a failed reboot.

And they did many things better than the original, technically-wise, not just a graphics has improved, but also the fact that there is more than the one character to fight. Unless it's the finish of the show, where Taichi literally appeared in every episode "saving the day". As a person, who likes Taichi, I DESPISED THAT. I'm not sure what they have tried to make by that, but that was anti-everything. But I definitely liked that characters other than Taichi and Yamato fought their fights too and got their final evolutions. That's something original lacked, making Taichi a main character, Yamato his rival and support, as well as Takeru and Hikari, who both often made things possible for Taichi and Yamato. But the rest was left alone. I wish they actually made deep character development, because they can. They did this many times. Even meaningless fights could be more bearable, if characters were more interesting.

As for the App Monster, I'm going to watch this. But I'm going to do a full rewatch from first Adventure till Xros Wars and App Monster. Because for some reason I always stopped at Xros Wars. Not because I don't want to watch, not because I find it boring. I just randomly drop it. I have to finally watch it all. Also I kinda make a Digidex personal project, giving digimons a number, depending on order of their appearance in anime. As I won't try to dig who appeared before in other media like games, mana etc, I'm only taking anime as the source. I was actually doing it last time, when I dropped half way through the Frontier. But I'm going to do this once again when I'll rewatch next time, hopefully finishing Xros Wars and App Monster. Tbh, I just wish something like that existed already, including media other than anime.

As for the ugly CGI, don't worry, it's hard to make me annoyed/bored by a series. I mean, if something is bad, I eventually would drop it, but just weird CGI or even some annoyances won't stop me from watching it. After finishing Adventure reboot, I doubt any series would be as bad, really.

And as for comedic villains... have You ever watched original Dragon Ball? Not DBZ, the first Dragon Ball, before big cosmic-scale battles started. The first main villain was so much of a grotesque. Later on they decided to make things more serious, but it all started as a very gag anime/manga.

And don't worry, I can understand when early episodes or just some of the episodes later on are worse, as long as overall quality is great. My goal is to not judge things by the cover, so I often try to believe it will all be better, even if it never gets better at the end, like that terrible reboot, that had many amazing ideas and other stuff in it, but just failed in most important stuff that are characters and their traits.

Sorry for very long reply. Have a very nice day or night :)

Heya!
Got a quick question, is that guy from your pfp/forum from any manga? :O
Sinankooesa Jan 29, 2021 3:51 AM
I'm only watching Wonder Egg from this season and Kuma Bear from last season, with 1-2 3 minute anime. Plus, I now started The Big O, a pretty stylish and cool old mecha anime.
Sinankooesa Jan 29, 2021 2:31 AM
Oh nice XD

Yeah, I heard about both Akudama and Kamisama. Which is a real shame, since I was actually curious about checking the latter out (nah, maybe I'll still give it a try)
I heard about that. Though interestingly, I hear some people said, that the manga went to shit, after they escaped the orphanage, so they see this anime original path as a way to "improve it".

Oh yeah, Kemono Jihen does look pretty cool, as do the other two. Maybe I'll watch one of them at some point :D
Sinankooesa Jan 29, 2021 2:11 AM
And, any amazing or terrible anime you watched recently? XD
Youbamii Jan 9, 2021 11:24 AM
Yeah I agree there are some low budget animes which are actually not bad but this one is pathetic I was wondering if the studio was even trying but then I went to check which studio did this series only to find out its a new studio I guess that makes sense lack of experience in this field can cause the adaptation to be bad, as you stated the background detail/ the dialogue delivery/ the conversation, the pacing are far off heck even the character interactions feel a bit weird to me I gave this a chace I am at episode 10 I am definitely seeing this one through but if I have to be honest this series doesn't deserve a Season2 thats what I believe some might think differently tho
Sinankooesa Nov 29, 2020 10:46 AM
Don't know if I mentioned it, but nice to see Mirai Nikki on your dropped list too XD
Sinankooesa Oct 23, 2020 1:14 PM
Yeah XD
Currently, I'm watching Ghost Stories (aka the best dub in human history XD)
And from this season, I am watching "Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear". I really liked the manga, so I was really excited for this. The first episode sucked, but the 2nd one is already a big improvement over it.
Sinankooesa Oct 23, 2020 8:45 AM
Hey,
It's been a while :D

haha yea man, i was hoping it was going to be good, it had promise but it dashed what little hope it had of being a decent show the moment they thought of throwing JoJo Stand powers in and sidelining everyone besides Mori. I'm worried we might get more animation like this from groups like crunchyroll looking to make the "next big shounen" but I highly doubt they will find success in adapting web novels for that purpose.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
