eh tbh still not sure I'll do it, uni is starting tomorrow and I generally want to spend less time on MAL so my motivation isn't high. Until when did they extend the deadline?
Pullman Sep 30, 2018 2:25 PM

Haha I'm not stupid I did a LOT of research before I started and also, yes, it's just some money I never knew I'd have in the first place until a while ago and I'm only investing like 25% of what I got too. I do agree that Bitcoin is overvalued for what it can actually provide, no question about it, so as an investment Bitcoin isn't the best choice. There are a lot of other Crypto-related projects tho that are way smaller and have way more to offer so I do think that you can still 'invest' in Cryptos, even when Bitcoin itself is more about speculation/store of value right now.

I really do think that long-term the technology will be huge and I'm not gonna invest so much money that I have to rely on cashing out soon so I'm prepared for long-term holding too. But I also think that Bitcoin itself will still rise. For one, I think the mass hype has just started and will still last a while with a lot more FOMO money coming in. My goal for Bitcoin is 25-30k for now and then I'll probably sell my Bitcoin Portion of my portfolio and invest in some more long-term projects I believe in. I'm probably too late to really cash in on Bitcoin speculation itself, but I really believe some of these technologies out there have a huge potential and I want to invest in them long-term.

But who knows, Bitcoin might go to 100k next year and I wouldn't even be that surprised. I do think there is still a lot of room for the overall Market Cap of Cryptos to grow and I have no idea how long it'll take the average guy to pick up on the Bitcoin technology being outdated and without much utility compared to what else is out there. There are a lot of factors to consider like which coins the most mainstream exchanges will adapt and so on. It's still the Bitcoin name that draws people in and what they are most likely to start out and I think the stream of new people getting into it won't end for a while. Plus for a lot of the altcoins you actually have to buy Bitcoin first and then Buy the altcoins with your Bitcoins so at least for now the whole Crypto economy revolves somewhat around Bitcoin and many traders don't even look at the dollar prices for altcoins but just on their relative value to Bitcoin. And Bitcoin is definitely spearheading the public awareness and is the most likely crypto currency to end up being regulated to some degree and becoming, well, part of the established financial system anytime soon even if it loses most or all of the reasons why it was invented in the first place (decentralization, low fees etc...) in the process. The Lightning Network for example is a step in that direction if it gets implemented.

I also want to add that there are actually some places where Bitcoin has a positive purpose, like Venezuela which is suffering from hyper-inflation recently and a lot of people are using Bitcoin to defend against this. It's not completely useless :>

Also since you mention stocks I once saw this funny comparison using the Price/Earnings ratio of certain companies and their stocks and compared it to Bitcoin assuming the 'real' value of a Bitcoin is around 1k $ right now (which seems fair, it was around that level before all the hype this year). So it would be currently evaluated at 15-20x what it is really worth right now and the rest can be called 'future potential' or whatever. I think for Netflix the ratio was like ~200x and for Facebook it was like 33x so the argument was that if Bitcoin is a bubble based on this discrepancy between actual, current value and their market evaluation, so is everything else and Bitcoin actually still has a lot of room to grow to compare with some of these other companies in terms of HOW overvalued they are. Obviously I'm not an economics expert so I don't know if the comparison is completely retarded or not but I just found it kinda funny. I definitely think that 'future potential' is a big reason for the Crypto Hype, and it is all gonna depend on whether the technology can deliver utility and adaption anytime soon and 'catch up' with the hype or if the hype is gonna be too much too fast like with the dotcom bubble. That's why I try to focus investments on stuff with real technology and implications. But the dotcom bubble lasted at least a couple of years IIRC so I'm pretty confident that ~6 months into the hype (~2 months into the real mainstream hype) that at least 2018 will be a very good year for the Crypto Market still even if it should eventually crash. But if I'm wrong you can tell me to suck it in a couple of months xD.

However if it doesn't all go to literally zero I still think I'M making good long-term investments for 'after the bubble'. At least I'M trying to stay as informed as I can, I probably spent an average of 2-3 hours on crypto research every day for the last 3 weeks. Tho I kinda wish I didn't and just invested right away because then I'd already have made like 3x returns by now -.-.

In any case thanks for worrying, I always knew you were a softie at heart <3.
