Kyoani is doing the same over and over... At least this show is focused more in the band and the problems that they have and not eating cakes, tripping over his own shoes, and making faces. That's an improvement for me, because in my opinion full moe shows are empty. I don't dislike moe, the same that i don't dislike ecchi in a show which has another thing to show, but full moe shows or semiporn/superecchi shows are not interesting at all for me. Anyway it is yet a weak serie and i will probably drop it soon, but i want to give it some chapters more.
KyoAni is an overrated studio that milk the same storyline over and over.

Another episode I enjoyed watching. Finally Kumiko manages to say what she kept in so long with Kousaka, and possibly see the development of their friendship. And I also agree that Kousaka's staunch defence of Taking sensei seems to imply that she probably knows something about him and he might just be the real reason she joined Kitauji despite their lowly regarded concert band.
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to give out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.

Reina and Taki-sensei are the best, followed by "I like Tuba" Goro-san, cynical Kumiko-chan, and scared-of-Reina Childhood Friend-san. Gah. ♡

Also, to go against the grain, less Asuka improved the tonal quality of this episode. I don't dislike her or anything, but KyoAni too easily gets caught up in writing antics to the detriment of its character writing, and Asuka's like a magnet for that. (As are Midori and Hazuki, to be fair.)

Still really enjoying this anime. Though, I felt the same sort of... thing that I feel with sports anime. The impossible is accomplished. (I don't mean anything negative towards sports anime, I enjoy them myself) - but it just had that vibe.

Every time I watch, I miss playing flute in orchestra. It makes me so sad!

I don't know if I agree about KyoAni with the same stories (grant it, I've only seen half of their stuff) - but they do really like the school/ slice of life feel. So in that aspect, it is similar. But I feel like the characters in this show are very different from their other shows. BUT it we are to get nit-picky, most shows have certain character arcs. Then the genres also can follow similar paths.

For me, it works. I like slow, laid back shows. But I can understand why this wouldn't work for everyone. To each their own!

I'm hoping for some more character development in the next few episodes. This has set the stage for the plot for the next couple of episodes, but now I want to know about singular characters. Hoping the show delivers :)

That was a good episode. I'm now finding Kousaka a more intriguing character. Kumiko is starting to assert herself now. I was surprised the older lazy girl didn't snap at her, being a First Year and all.

Come for the band nostalgia, stay for Kumiko's faces. She's adorable.
At least half the people in this band should not be here, and if I transplanted my teacher here they wouldn't be here. Taki is hard on them, but he is right to do so because babying a group of people who ostensibly should be working hard will get you nowhere. He is also right for not doing the training immediately. These are characters who skated by without putting in so much as a drop of effort into their club activities(which is unusual given Japan's schools supposedly put a lot of emphasis on after school club activities) for at least a year or two; if they're going to quit because suddenly they have to work hard, then they do not deserve to be in the club in the first place. It's their choice to either stay or leave.

Protip for the people complaining here: If you don't like the show, drop it, unless you're that masochistic that you oddly enjoy doing something that you hate.

Problem is, I don't think they can afford to lose any members. They just barely have enough people I think, and about half the club is dissatisfied with Taki-sensei.

Kousaka was wonderful this episode. She went through the trouble of pulling Kumiko aside to apologize (not the guy lol), which demonstrates that she realizes that she does act a bit on impulse/gets caught up in the moment. Yet she didn't hesitate to admit she was wrong, and it means she also reflected on her actions. She's a very nice contrast with Asuka and made the episode more serious, which I liked.

I was surprised the teacher actually helped out the sections - I didn't expect that since he told them to basically work hard themselves last episode. But it was really nice and again shows that he does care for the band. His response after the ensemble was honest and relatively pleasant. He didn't overly praise them, but he didn't (outright) insult them either. And I'm not sure if he's smart, a bit manipulative, or simply staying in character, but the way he upsets the band members give them motivation to do better and moves the story. With an unwavering smile and unpleasant tongue, he could get on anyone's nerve easily. Even when he was lecturing the flute girl - harsh, perhaps, but his words hold true. Sometimes it takes a good lecture or scolding to get people motivated - anger arises more action than happiness. In the end I think they'll appreciate his methods and realize it was what they needed.

Development is a wee bit slow for me, but hoping that it will pick up now that they have a goal. Kousaka's scene was underwhelming, but strangely relatable/realistic. She's not going to make a big deal about it, but she still wants to communicate her apology to Kumiko. And the development of the band and members have a splash of realism as well. I'm surprised that the show can still surprise me every corner.

Probably the best episode so far. The character interactions weren't nearly as awkward as they usually are, the characters themselves had some nice development, and the band came together as a group because the teacher made them dislike him. KyoAni must like under dog stories. However, this still isn't nearly anywhere near as good as their previous work, Amagi Brilliant Park.

The aesthetic was as lovely as ever. Seriously, KyoAni is no joke when it comes to art and animation.

Yeah seriously. I think they're doing it for the cuteness rather than to show that she's...clumsy? I would think that at least the section leader would notice that Hazuki is doing something wrong. I don't think you can make any proper notes with improper embouchure.

I really enjoyed this episode. Seeing the advisor come down really harsh to the resistance of the students really brings me back to when I was drum major in band. We got a new director that graduated in music from long beach in directing and he didn't settle for anything less than great.

Also, I worked with the section leaders and added in additional sectional practice after school outside of just the class period (4th period). That actually didn't really get much resistance as the complaints from this club. This club definitely is a challenge.

So many memories. I actually got a bit lost when the advisor went to the bass section and had them tune and talked about overtones. Maybe someone that knows sound or music theory could explain it to me?

It sounded like he was saying when everyone plays in tune, the overtones (the frequencies played besides the fundamental B flat) sounds like an F? In other words, when everyone plays in tune, you can hear, what sounds like a different note also playing besides just the B flat. Does that sound about right?

Great episode. Good to see Taki-Sensei being direct and straight to the point with his teaching methods, which were unusual at first, but proved to be effective.

Although I do have some sympathy for the crying flute girl, she should have a better understanding of the goal that the band is working towards to, which is no easy task at all. As long as she stays strong, she should do alright.

I also think that Kousaka joined this school because of Taki-Sensei. She was passionately defending him when Kumiko and the guy were criticising him, which shows how committed she his to his teachings, but saying that she wouldn't let Kumiko say any negative things about Taki-Sensei was a bit unnecessary.

Thankfully, Kousaka apologised to Kumiko about her passionate defence so hopefully now Kumiko can get along with Kousaka once again.

Kumiko's reactions this episode were very funny though! XD

I thought the pacing was perfect.. it has been since the first episode. Any slower would be boring but any faster would forgo any development that could have happened. There is a huge amount of characters here yet they are able to give life not only to the main characters but also some of the more important side characters.

I like how everything just flows naturally without forgetting the thing they're trying to accomplish (i.e. trying to sound like an assemble) by over-blowing the drama yet at the same time, still keeping the tension.

I was a bit lost when they talked about some musical terms, maybe some people here could enlighten that for me.

That was a pretty good ensemble. LOL at one of the students in the courtyard when they heard the music.

Next episode would be the festival, excited to see how it will be.
If you have any question, please ask. There are a lot of past and current musicians that can answer whatever question you have.

Much better episode than last week's mess. The show wants to tell two stories, one about Kumiko and Reina and the other about the band as a whole. Unfortunately, neither gels too well into one another and it's easy to spot that difference, despite both narratives being reasonably well-done on their own. Without the writing chops to blend them, this episode made the smart choice in focusing more on one story instead of fracturing it into incoherence.

If I were nitpicking I could say a lot, but on a whole, I can say this is an ensemble. Kinda funny how the structure got better as the band got better.

The show is really good, this was a build-up episode but was still very strong. In my opinion this wipes the floor with Amagi(and I liked it), it's a shame it's underrated here, I think it should be on par with at least the current rating for Plastic Memories(and I like it too).

Man that sensei is awesome. He makes himself the target of hate, and uses those feelings of hatred for the better of his students. Brilliant strategy. He must be Hikki's father.
