That was a sad one or a bittersweet one - in some ways her not remembering her husband is ok cause she is happier that way.
But this one was a bit close to home right now since my mom has alzheimers now so this is sort of real.

"Ignorance is bliss" fits perfectly for the mother in the case of her husband. I really feel sorry for her son who has to worry about her on a daily basis. Especially since there's a possibility that his mother may run out of memories and even forget her own son.

Yeah, at least his mother seems to be living a happy life. But it's sad for the kid :/ and I had a feeling the father was making a family somewhere else...how terrible.

A more lighthearted episode for the most part, "don't do something like that so suddenly!" "It was just a sneeze, mom." This one had me laughing a good bit. I had a feeling the father wasn't going to come back, but to think he moved on to another family, such a sad turn of events. The ending was bittersweet, it was interesting that this was a mushi Ginko could do nothing about. "At least she enjoys everyday." I feel Kaji ended the episode on a more happy note with that.

This was a good bittersweet episode. I like the metaphor for divorce in this episode.

that was a really sad episode. loosing some of your memories and being able able to learn and expirience everything anew might not be such a bad thing. its just that she couldnt really choose what to forget that makes it sad.

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

A bittersweet episode. Is it really worth it to totally forget all our painful memories or remember it and cope because isn't memories regardless of what emotion defines what we are today.

I love how this series doesnt always have happy endings, ginko is a effective mushishi but he cant solve everything and some stories end in tragedy such as this one. It makes each story so much compelling since you never truly know when he will succeed or fail in helping these people

It was kinda sad. Sayo, the mother is so adorable...can't believe the husband left her, only go to the next town over and start a new family.

It's sad for the kid knowing what really happened but I think he's also happy for his mother to forget about those painful memories.

Damn, why on earth does Mushishi make all the women in this series to be so cute lol?!?!

Mainly because of what Kaji has to go through...the last bit of the episode really shows that.

I feel like despite the fact that the woman was unable to stop her memory from being "eaten" by the mushi, the story had a happy ending.
I think of it this way, if she were to keep her memory and live with the knowledge that her husband left her and her son for another woman, she would've stayed in that depression she went in when she slept for so long. (even if she had never been affected by the mushi, she would have eventually went out to find him, for she said she thought about doing it for some time).
She wouldn't have been happy, might've even died from a broken heart, hey it's possible.

Her son told Ginko he thinks she's happy now even though she still forgets, she's enjoying herself, she wouldn't have had the heart to go out to town and make new memories after finding out about her husband.

The fact that she still sets a place for him at the table without knowing what she's doing is proof she'd never have gotten over him, and I'm glad she's happy not knowing. And even by not knowing, she still has him in her heart, since she finds comfort in setting that place for her husband, even though she doesn't know that's what she's doing.

Nice episode.

This show... It's sadistic. It's almost as if it enjoys watching us suffer from not knowing if the episode is going to be a sad one or a happy one.. Talk about not being predictable. This episode was one of the saddest so far in my opinion.

Am I watching a masterpiece? I believe so.

powerful. Who knew Alzheimer's disease was actually caused by a mushi? >_>

I was reminded of ef: A Tale of Memories as well near the end.

Nice to hear Greg Ayres this episode as well. One cool thing about the near indefinite amount of secondary characters is that all of my favorite voice actors appear to show up in one of the episodes.

I also noticed there's a lot of time lapses in this series. I wonder how old Ginko actually is now.

I was thinking the father my have gotten the same Mushi but it just turns out he was a pos. The guy ditches his family for another woman, starts a new family and does all of this just one town over....

As for the mother, feel pretty bad for her getting such a terrible mushi just because she liked taking naps under a tree. I guess the only good thing that came out of it was forgetting her husband and his betrayal. Also, props to the kid for handling the whole situation so well. Can't imagine how hard it is for him.

This was one of the saddest. It wasn't downright tragic or bad, still melancholic. There's not much hope this would end well. Who knows even the memories she does remember will get eaten away too as the time passes (the size of the mushi had gotten HUGE. it will eventually end up eating all of her memories, I don't think there's any alternative outcome except that) All they could do was accept it.

Kaji's father is a dick D:< There are only so many outcomes of him not returning. I was worried he found a new wife or died. Turns out he has a new wife AND a kid. What the fuck???? Asshole D:< I'm glad she ultimately forgot about him.

I'm sad Kaji has to suffer on his own though :'( Poor kid. Be strong, boy.

Broshi making her forget about his husband, how can someone cheat on a girl as lovable as her smh.

Not every Mushi has a cure, Ginko can do lot of things, but sometimes he can only give advices to make the life of that person slightly better u_u

It's an uncomfortable idea to consider that maybe she's better off with the mushi, although it's understandable that it would come up. On one hand, she does seem happy and she gets to enjoy a lot more novelty every single day, compared to other people. On the other hand, while being cheated on does hurt, you can still recover from it with time; and it's certainly not worse than death. So I don't think she really is better off this way, and this was more of a bittersweet ending leaning towards a downer ending. In any case, I loved this episode.

At first it did not seem, but then gradually the usual melancholy and tormenting atmosphere was perceived as if it were a blow to the heart, the story told in this episode is very sad, which also wants to leave us a meaning: those who really love each other , they never forget. The character of Sayo is very nice, unfortunate that her husband is a faithless.
