he bought Twitter for 40 billion dollars then end up losing 120 billion dollars stock value on Tesla so he ends up losing 160+ billion dollars overall, what a waste of money if he wants his own social media he should have just made one from scratch |

Twitter is such a disgusting garbage heap of a website Elon would be best to have left it alone. The recent dip in Tesla Stock is proof enough of that. |

The dude is an advocate for free speech so my thoughts are positive. I don't really care though since I don't use Twitter that much other than to find ecchi artists :3 Also it's so freaking hilarious how there are a ton of retards "threatening" to "leave Twitter" (there's even a hashtag and it's trending LOL). Like that's going to do anything! LMAO XD |

Advocating for free speech. Yeah no. Don't expect free speech from someone like him, lol. A person who silenced a journalist who had the slightest criticism of his company is advocating for free speech is just plain ludicrous to anyone. Besides his worshippers, people don't give a damn and only clown on him for wasting the money that's generated from the lower class in this capitalist society. A self-proclaimed millionaire is full of insecurities and he knows it. |

A self-proclaimed millionaire is full of insecurities and he knows it. Pure free speech has never been maintained for long and will never be because it's a paradox. As soon as speech is 100% free, authoritarians (usually left wing authoritarians) use free speech to gain power, at which point they heavily regulate speech. (Of course, leftists would say the same about right wing authoritarians, although in reality the auth-right is much less censorious than the left.) Anyway, each side pretends to care about pure free speech when they need it to gain power. The goal has never been free speech. The actual goal is opening the window of free exchange as wide as possible while stopping just short enough to exclude those who would use this freedom to shrink the window of protected speech. Elon Musk could be the worst man in the world, but because he's a free agent, he'll still do a better job at broadening the window of free expression than twitter's politically motivated former management, who thought it was acceptable to ban a hugely popular mainstream political candidate in the middle of an election. And who thought it was acceptable to bury stories about Biden's crackhead son and his laptop. Anyone who thinks this is bad news is afraid of speech. Full stop. |

It's a private company with public stocks anyone should be allowed to purchase, so of course it's fine. That said, Elon Musk is incorrect that he's supporting free speech by doing this. Free speech is about protection from government censorship. A guest in your house doesn't have a right to say anything they want there without being removed. If Musky boy wants to open up his own house to people doing that, it's fine. But it's no obligation. |

It's funny that the far left treats it as the end of Twitter, the only thing that will end is their reign of terror (and maybe some of the bad anime takes such as labeling adult anime chicks as children will end). |

I visited 8chan regularly, as well as freenet from time to time and despite many sources claiming it was “overrun” with extremism and child pornography, it was mostly rather tame with extreme content maybe having a slightly higher voice than at other places but nothing one could not eaisly avoid. |

ITT everyone loves a guy who runs slave labor camps in East Turkistan because some SJWs are OWNED EPIC STYLE. To be honest though China is the last bastion of Free Speech on the Internet because you can say ANYTHING you want on Chinese Internet as long as you don't talk about certain things. China allowed that Christchurch shooting video to be online when everyone in the West tried to ban it. |

Don't care either way. Have zero interest in Twitter, with or without Musk. I somewhat expect it to become far more of a shitshow though. If you can't talk about "certain things" that kinda negates the thing about them being able to say "anything". That's like calling a restaurant an "all you can eat buffet" and then handing out a list of foods you aren't allowed to touch in there. |

Wow, the biggest social media has just been transferred from one billionaire to another one! This is so big and shocker. Probably not a lot gonna change to be fair. Biggest case would've probably be me being able to shit on people with Ukraine flag username/bio more freely, while the downside is that I might get more flak from people who's LGBTphobic. But moderation is probably gonna be still the same as usual twitter. Also curious how liberals making it so big when Musk taking over twitter, but not when Bezos taking over Washington Post. |

I like a lot of stuff he does, but I've seen seen some flaws. So I'm no fanboy. That said, if, IF, he lives up to the more Free Speech thing, that only for the better. The memes and the Reee'ing from the SJW leftards are hilarious. It's exactly like when they moved to Canada because Trump won (They didn't). I don't have twitter, and I'm not likely to get it either. I'll wait and see. For now there's Gab. |

Instead of building a rival platform to Twitter, he took a shortcut. Buying Twitter to preserve freedom as much possible as he could. Let all hell break loose, and whatever gonna happen, humanity must prepare to accept it and roll with it. I don’t care if someone is racist, religion-hater. More power to them. Just be ready that you’re gonna be debunked if debunking is possible if you made a statement. Whatever the statement you made. Take the MSNBC reporter, Joy Reid for example. She goes over the top when it comes to Elon Musk after he bought Twitter. She suggested that Elon is so questionable and so suspicious if he really wanna preserve freedom. |

LoveLikeBlood said: It's not gonna change shit and anyone who thinks it is needs to touch grass. I strongly disagree with this. The reason is simple : Internet debate doesn't exist in some kind of platonic world of ideas seperate from material reality, it IS included in reality. You are exchanging with real people, living all around the world (well, mostly rich ones) and expressing their political views OUTSIDE of internet, and acting accordingly to those views. I'm pretty certain the Arab Spring has been made possible, at least in a great part, thanks to the internet. Do you think just because you don't agree with someone online, those interractions don't affect who you are ? You'd have to be just as naive as the people who are convinced ads have no effect on them to believe that. Of course internet is changing us. I've seen its mindset become what it is today, the youngest of you have no idea how different dominant opinions were then. Internet changes us because people who prefer reality have slowly deserted the political discourse online in some way or another, leaving it to those miserable escapist resentful geeks to vomit their hate of reality, which is a mistake in my opinion. Leaving twitter to "free speech" nuts is another victory for that escapist mentality (or far right essentialism, if you prefer), and it has everything to do with spreading the kind of political opinions Musk and these guys prefer, which has consequences in real life. So yeah, I'm betting it's gonna change shit if twitter becomes /pol/ with some millions influenceable minds listening. |

Don't care. Twitter is trash, just like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Also, he is an egomaniac and a clout-chaser. He loves the Gen Z and Millennial attention. The only good thing that might come out of this is a potential edit button on Twitter. Elon is quite possibly the biggest fraud in recent memory, who has managed to get a PR team with geniuses. He has a devoted loser fanbase, who think he is the bee's knees. When you actually look into his life, you realize that he was set from day one. Dude was born with a golden spoon. His family had multiple connections. This man got lucky during the Dot.com boom. And he hires smart people, who then leave out of frustration, or who end up getting fired. Literally every success story that you have heard about involves Elon using smart people like tools before discarding them and taking all the credit. Tesla was not his company, and neither was PayPal. Far smarter people than him where involved in each of "his" companies before getting kicked out. Dude hogs all the credit for other people's work. |

deg said: he bought Twitter for 40 billion dollars then end up losing 120 billion dollars stock value on Tesla so he ends up losing 160+ billion dollars overall, what a waste of money if he wants his own social media he should have just made one from scratch Do remember that the entire US economy has fallen this quarter. If it happens in the next quarter as well, we would officially be in a recession. Everything from S&P 500 to Dow Jones have shrunk in value. Investors are skeptical and many are withdrawing from all companies. And Tesla is an overvalued stock. In conclusion Tesla stock was gonna fall anyway, maybe by a lesser margin, but its not a surprise for people following the stock market. Now on top of that he acquires Twitter, which has not been a great cash cow even in good times. So if anything, Elon Musk has made a bold bet. Lets see if it pays off in the future. PS: In my opinion Twitter will be a profitable company in the future and he will make significant changes. Elon Musk is the current generation Warren Buffett i.e. There was a saying in Wall St: 'Buffett's name attracts money". Similarly Musk's association itself attracts money. Even shit like dogecoin got buyers because of him. His persona and influence is a big boost for Twitter. |

Musk is said to have close ties to the CPP. He certainly does not want to anger China for obvious reasons. For the most part, twitter will probably not change substantially, but with pressure from Xi, it may start to crack down on anyone who speaks against the Chinese government, or posts anything the CPP finds offensive (edit: this also includes anime drawings - google Genshin Impact censored skins for examples) |
