Yetserday i was going through my plan to watch list and after going through some of the summaries i felt it was all cliche stories. So i started deleting them. Maybe i added them 2 years ago because i was new to anime. How much have you shortlisted

Not even....I added most of them about 4 years ago and I don't think I even made a dent just because I keep adding new ones into it.

I've also lost interest in about 95% of the anime on my PTW list so I don't care about going through my PTW list anymore. I just watch whatever I can find that interests me or binge-watching a seasonal anime that I missed from the previous season(s).

Okay first of all how can you judge an anime just by reading the summary? What if there is some originality those animes that you have deleted and are not ciche?

I have had over 700 titles in my PTW list for so long I find it too tiresome to go through all of it just to clean it.

I clean my ptw list all the time. Sometimes I add something on a whim then delete it one month later.

I watch stuff from it nonstop, but it's a hydra. I watch one show, then find 2 similar recommended. I can't win no matter how I try.

I go through it at least every year or two and remove anything I've lost all interest in. Most of the titles on my Plan to Watch list are anime that I just wanted to keep in mind and maybe check out "someday," rather than anime I'm actively planning to watch in the near future.

Yes, because it was getting out of hand cause I just kept adding and adding and adding. I realized something was wrong when I noticedd I had more shows in PTW than in Completed, so I deleted all but 50. Now I have less than 40 and I don't plan on adding any new shows until I've watched all in there.

I've shortlisted it. As I go through it to find out what series to watch next, I'll ended up confused and also annoyed by seeing so many titles and often find ones between them that already feels irrelevant to the current me. So I'll remove it.

I only add what I know I’ll watch. I have 27 on my PTW, and almost all of them are sequels to seasons I’ve watched.

I don't think I've ever shortlisted my plan to watch list. It's like, my PTW list is already the shortlist, I guess.

When you watch anime clips on YouTube and you found them interesting but then that's the only part that is interesting about the show. I used to do that so much that half of my entries are PTW. Nowadays I don't follow it. I just watch whatever I feel watching. And I can't be bothered to delete some of them.

My ptw list is like a blackhole, anything that goes in there never comes out except for squeals that have not been aired yet.

I mean when I put something on Ptw I usually do a bit of research, (not always) so I generally trust my old self who put those there.
Plus, to decrease the list I'd actually need to go through it, which I usually don't do. I do sometimes see an anime that I didn't remember putting in there and know I won't watch so I take it out, but I still think I add more than what I take from it.

No, there's a good chance I've literally never taken anything off my PTW. I mostly just use it to mark shows I'm even remotely interesting in. There's a good chance I'll never even get to half of those. I do however have a notepad with around 30 shows that's sort of a high priority PTW or you could say the "real" one. One with shows that I'm actually planing to watch.

I always choose carefully what I put on my PTW list, so no I never shortened it except when I finally watch some anime

However I never put sequels of anime I haven't started yet in my PTW (for example I have Haikyuu in my PTW list but not its sequels)
If I put every entry from an anime franchise, I guess my PTW list would double or almost triple

I haven't shortlisted my plan to watch section, but I never will, even if the anime hasn't aired. I'll eventually get to the anime its just going to take time.

I tried to do some minor changes on it, but soon I must shortlist it for real. There are a lot of anime's on my "Plan to watch" list that I added in the past, but I don't believe I will watch them today or in the nearest future.

My shortlist is my PTW itself, which at any time must have < 300 entries so it fits on a non-reloading MAL page. I use tags, both MAL's genres copied over and private ones, to define subsets within those max. 300. entries which are worth ~60 24h-binge days. That way don't have one short list, I've several which I can display based on tags.

The idea here is that a PLAN to watch list which is not realistically completed under the SMART principle within a reasonable period (1 year with my 300 entries) isn't a plan, It's a useless mess.

Well, the PTW itself is a shortlist for me, as I choose from all the anime I think sound interesting (after reading a few reviews and checking all related entries to the title to get an idea about it, etc) then add them to it. But what I actually do with my PTW is put it all in a word file with ONLY ONE PAGE, so space is really limited. So, whenever I watch something I get more space in it, and if it's full and I want to add something then I have to delete a few things from it. This way, I constantly shortlist the shortlist.

Oh, MAL's PTW isn't what I fall back on btw. It doesn't count for the most part.

I shortened it ~3 years ago when I had more than 600 in PTW. I got ticked that the list only loads the first 300 and then you have to scroll to the bottom to get the next 300 and so on. I had ~609 at the time and took off entries until I was at 600. Never shortened it since.

I probably should shortlist my PTW. I try to 'clean' it out once a year by moving everything on it to a secondary list so that I can put the shows that I actually want to watch back on. But then I just continuously add to it again and the cycle never ends.

Nope, and it’ll only get bigger. It’s at around 850 including my on-hold which I use as another ptw list. It’s all individual series too with only relevant entries, so no recaps or pointless ovas/specials. I also generally only add the first entry to a series until I complete that entry. I know I’ll never complete it all, but I just have a habit of adding anything that seems mildly interesting. Like I recently went through every season from 2000 to 1970 and added everything that caught my eye. I get the idea of only adding things you 100% know you’ll watch, but that’s why I use utilize my on-hold as well. I’m 98% sure I’ll get around to everything on there as long as I’m still into anime. Even that’s getting bigger as I occasionally skim through my PTW, add sequels to shows I’ve enjoyed, or to promising seasonals I’d rather binge.

The plan to watch list is almost an emergency resource or a ''Notify me when it airs'' thing.
It should be left untouched, unless you want to have it on a day-on-day basis (not recommended).

I like keeping mine under 100, because having too big of a watchlist is intimidating and I'll end up never watching anything. Sometimes I'll go through and remove not-aired-yet series or things that I know I probably won't end up enjoying, just to keep the number down.

I did that a few times, recently last or a few years ago.
I originally had a incomplete blog to clean it out but eventually deleted it and took out most of the anime I don't plan to ever watch from either not being to my taste anymore or incomplete adaptions I don't want to experience over the original source.

Some anime I may come back to of which I deleted upon realizing whatever.
I used to have over 200 but from my little lack of binge-completing it's slowly growing back now.

What I used to do is add anime on plan to watch if the poster looked good or had some nice reviews, however my taste change and sometimes I never really watch this anime so I end up removing them from my plan to watch.

I just realized that all new anime I'm watching aren't even in my plan to watch list. It has remained a staggering number of 100+ anime ever since, and funny thing is I'm not even planning to watch any of them. I think I just stop caring about my list and feel like ignoring it for a while now.

Nah, but I actually have a separate list with anime from my PTW which I put higher priority on. My PTW is basically where I dump everything that looks interesting so I don't forget about it when I run out of other stuff to watch.

Just removed a handful of anime from my PTW, but I would say a PTW is a shortlist in itself... from the thousands of anime out there, I've only tagged 300 anime as things I want to watch lol
I guess my next struggle is being able to watch the anime on my list legally lmao

never. 95% of the shows that are on my must watch, piqued my interest, or i'm willing to give a chance to are all in my ptw. only way my ptw will get smaller is if the rate of my watching surpasses the amount of series i add every time a new season comes out

There was one time when i deleted an anime from my watchlist, which was www.Working. I just felt that anime was nothing different from Working!! anime, so i got rid of it from my PTW list.

Other than that, no. Everything on my PWT list must be watched.

Yeah. I used to have about 100-200 on my plan to watch list, now it only has 20. I used to add anything I found remotely interesting to my PTW, then I deleted them all and now I only have sequels or adaptations I know I'd probably enjoy i.e. stuff I'm absolutely sure I'm gonna watch eventually. I still keep a mental PTW list for other anime though.

My PTW is already a shortlist.

The list consists of anime I'm really interested to look (the usual case, e.g. looks appealing, nice premise) and/or know (e.g. big name titles I need to watch), added only sparingly in batches as I think about it on- and off-site. I have no upcoming anime PTW-listed, except one, despite say, me being interested in Winter 2021's sequelfest.

I now have only 23 as of posting and am interested in keeping it that way. Prior to yesterday's PTW listing spree I only had like, 6, after having that number knocked down a bit by me watching them. Six anime have graduated from my PTW since late July when I joined this website.

※ I also have franchises PTW whose shows are tagged as such in my list, as not all of their franchise entries are included for list brevity reasons.
