As a send-off/tribute to the past two decades, share your ranking of the Top 5 you've seen for each year starting from 2000 (or less or more!)
| I originally wanted to create this discussion thread after New Year's of this year, but didn't get around to it as I had to look back over my list. So here is the premise: Share your ranked order of every anime you've seen beginning from the year 2000 through the year 2019 (last year). When these ranked or favorites selection threads are created by others, I don't usually include films on my own list and stick exclusively to TV shows. Here I will include films as well though. However, I will only count one entry from each series, so if a series has four seasons and three films which are all listed separately, I will only count that entire series once and that will be under the year it began. This is just my preference for my own write-up, but you can arrange yours however you'd like. Also, as for how many, Top 5 is a good number to strive for. Some users have seen many times more anime and may have 20 or more for each year. They can include as many as they want if they so choose and feel like accounting for and ordering them all. Some may not have any for some years or slightly or significantly less than five to choose from. That's fine. Include what you have seen even if it's only one, two, three, or four. I've chosen to include everything I've seen, so some years will be more or less than five by a little or a lot. Naturally, it says nothing about whether those in your rankings were 10s or 1s, as any could be a magnificent year of abundance or horrendous and dry as a desert for your tastes. Obviously, it goes without saying, I'm excluding everything from the 90s and earlier or the current year (2020) Please feel free to state the reasons for any or all of your choices, add supplementary clarifying information, and engage in discussion. | oh man, my time to shine. i have a list of my favorite anime from each year i havent seen a lot from before like. 2006? so ill only be ordering them for years where ive seen a good number of things i actually enjoyed. all bolded shows are in my top 10. will be bolding all of a series for one entry (aka, all of fsn ubw is One entry in my favorites, all of kuroko is one, etc etc) 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 |

| The highest scored anime on my list for 2000 is Digimon Adventure 02, followed by Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2, Pokémon Movie 03 (Entei), Digimon Adventure Bokura no Wargame, and Pokémon Pichu to Pikachu I didn't watch much anime from the year 2000 so it's mostly movies and short stuff. 2001 meanwhile is especially short, as I only finished Digimon Tamers, Spirited Away, Pokémon Movie 04 (Celebi), and Digimon Tamers: Adventurers' Battle 2002 is a bit longer but still very short, containing anime like Pokémon Movie 05 (Latias & Latios), Tokyo Mew Mew, Digimon Frontier, Chobits, and The Cat's Repayment 2003 sadly falls in the same category as 2001, containing stuff like Pokémon Movie 06 (Jirachi), Kino's Journey, and two entries related to Chobits. So far 2003 won but 2004 is about to be a big hitter with fewest titles and that's just Nanoha and W:Wish 2005 looks a bit better. Titles like Mushishi, Pokémon Movie 08 (Lucario), Shakugan no Shana and two entries adapting the Air visual novel. Pretty much the same goes for 2006, with anime like Fate/stay night, the Pokémon Mastermind Mirage episode, Digimon Savers, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Go Getters Episode and Jyu Oh Sei Even 2007 only has a handful watched. Idolmaster Genoglossia, Lucky Star, Tales of Symphonia Part 1/3, Gurren Lagann and the Strike Witches OVA, just to name a few. Now 2008 is different. So many anime. Soul Eater, Strike Witches, Spice&Wolf, Twin Angel and KissxSis 2009 is another pretty decent year; there's Bakemonogatari, K-On, Umi Monogatari, Summer Wars, and Sora no Otoshimono Another year with good titles is 2010. The Black Rock Shooter OVA, Strike Witches 2, Motto To Love ru, Panty&Stocking, and even Angel Beats 2011 has more titles than most years before it; Madoka, Hotarubi, Steins;Gate, Anohana, and Guilty Crown Something very similar goes for 2012. Black Rock Shooter TV, Madoka Movie 02, To Love ru Darkness, Kill me Baby and Girls&Panzer I also watched a lot of anime from 2013: Madoka Movie 03, Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Love Live, and the Anohana movie 2014 was another bountiful year with titles like Burenai Ai De (music video), Fate/Unlimited Blade Works (both the first season of the anime and the prologue), Expelled from Paradise, and Selector Wixoss season 2 2015 meanwhile is filled with quality works; Umaru-chan, Shokugeki, Plastic Memories, Shomin Sample and Fate/UBW Season 2 The year with the most highest scored anime was absolutely 2016, which has gems like Flip Flappers, Konosuba, Servamp, Hero Academia Season 1, and Shounen Maid Sadly 2017 is a lot less impressive but still very good overall. There's No Game No Life 0, Dragon Maid, Alice&Zouroku, Made in Abyss, and Girls Last Tour 2018 meanwhile has Hataraku Saibou, Tsukumogami Kashimasu, A Place Further than the Universe, SSSS Gridman, and Yuru Camp And finally we've arrived at the final year, 2019. There aren't a whole lot of big hitters like in years prior but there's still Yakusoku no Neverland, Dumbbell nan Kilo Moteru, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Senko-san, and Promare it's hard to not make this into a listing post so I went with story/blog style instead |

| I haven't finished writing down my faves from earlier years yet but I'll do the recent years: These aren't in any order unless I say so. 2019 - Kanata no Astra, Beastars, Dr Stone, Promised Neverland, Shield hero and even though this is a top 5, I will mention Kimetsu no Yaiba. 2018 - WotaKoi, Violet Evergarden, LOGH DNT, Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai, Piano no Mori 2017 - I didn't watch many anime from this year. Made in Abyss, Kino no Tabi Remake, Houseki no Kuni, Tsuki ga Kirei 2016 - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Yuri on Ice, Erased, Mob Psycho 100, Saiki Kusuo 2015 - Didn't watch many from this year... Death Parade, Osomatsu-san, Ore Monogatari!! 2014 - Knights of Sidonia, Zankyo no Terror, Haikyuu!!, Akatsuki no Yona, Your Lie in April 2013 - Nagi no Asukara, Free!, Gin no Saji, Daiya no Ace, Attack on Titan 2012 - Easily one of the best years for me... Space Brothers, Shinsekai Yori, Uta Koi, Kids on the Slope, Shirokumaa Cafe, Psycho Pass 2011 - Chihayafuru, Kimi to Boku, Usagi Drop, Tiger and Bunny, HXH 2011 2010 - Didn't watch too many shows.. It can count OVAs, movies, specials, etc and I will always list at least 5 for each year that doesn't include asterisks, as I'll take a page similar in your book and not "count" that as a listing as a true top 5. I am ignoring that, but I'm placing them there to put perspective in its ranking among others. * = I previously listed a franchise entry in an earlier year as one of the top 5. Pleased to see more Noragami recognition and appreciation. I find it a peculiar thing that even after watching dozens of anime, then cracking 100+ and growing in dozens more since then, there are still years from which I've only seen one or two shows/films when I actually sit down to examine it. And they aren't years you would necessarily think of as obscure due to being older and random like, say, 1971. I'd hope I can add more to sections for these years down the line (like 2017 - I've literally only seen a single show?!?), but that will be balanced with my desire to see even more 90s shows, as well as 70s and 80s. And I'm fond of that bold font idea to underscore and give special recognition to selections included from your own Top 10, so I'll be going back retroactively and pilfering that. |
| Woah doing this I noticed how amazing 2006-2007 was for me. I’ll avoid films and do a top 3 instead of 5 for each year, easier to emphasize the ones I really cared about like that. Also, in recent years I just don't keep up with seasonals like I used to. Trying to avoid sequels like you did but in the end there’s a few I love too much, adding a * if a season was listed prior. 2000: FLCL, Yu☆Gi☆Oh! | Well, here I go. I tried to only include 8/10s or higher, but I had to make one exception for 1972 where my highest rated anime was only 7/10. And once we enter the 2000s there are many more anime that aired and got subbed and the number of completions inreased from 50 or so per year to hundreds so at some point it's only 9/10s and higher so the list doesn't get too big. And once we enter the 2000s there are many more anime that aired and got subbed and the number of completions inreased from 50 or so per year to hundreds so at some point it's only 9/10s and higher so the list doesn't get too big. For 2017 it's only 10/10s since I had a lot of them that year. 2019 is not complete since there are a bunch of shows I have not watched yet. Thanks for the thoroughness and attention to detail.
