Do to the popularity of anime like Toradora, I was wondering if there's anyone here who actually likes the tsundere persona.
Plus tsunderes, at least as a concept, seem to be disliked quite a bit as well.

Everyone likes tsunderes, those that don't are tsundere themselves.

I don't really like the extremely abusive ones. Although tsunderes can be annoying at times, they are pretty cute and the way they talk when they're flustered is pretty cute too. Truth be told, there was a time when I was a huge fan of tsunderes, but that's in the past.

When Kurisu, Taiga, Senjougahara, Haruhi, and Asuna are in MAL's top 50 characters, I think tsunderes are doing just fine.

I like tsunderes myself as long as their conflicted nature feels organic and an integral part of their character and not "this character is a tsundere because we need to cater to this fetish". For example, while Kurisu Makise is generally typified as a tsundere she is by no means difficult to get along with unless you're Okabe, who pushes her buttons with his aberrant chuunibyou behavior and lack of social etiquette.

ehhhh, hostile for the sake of hostile is not all that appealing. So most cases, no.

Though, one of the more recent ones I've actually grown to like is Benio from Twin Star Exorcists. She's developed fast enough that she isn't stuck in the trope.

Otherwise, my favorite duo would be Ranma and Akane.

Tsunderes in anime are awesome cause they still have that cute side to them. Tsunderes in real life make me want to just have a relationship with my right hand, and occasionally cheat with it with my left hand.

Yes, tsundere are fun. Getting flustered cutely and stuff.
Except for a few of them who are bad people in general, like Louise the Zero. I hate Louise.

Toradora's on my list, but I haven't gotten to it still.

You have one in your completed list at least, Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai, in particular Sena. (who was also probably the most popular character in that series)

But OT: I think its more that they're common that they seem to get a lot of the hate. So it's not that the concept is bad more so people have grown tired of them due to exposure. Unless they end up really great (which again varies from person to person).
That being said of course there are going to be exceptions as well as people who like the concept or else it wouldn't be common. I don't believe I have a character type I dislike or at least for this scenario no type of dere.

Yes. I liked a few. A well done Tsundere is a nice treat. Misty from Pokemon, Asuka from Evangelion, Fuu from Samurai Champloo (more dere than tsun),and yeah... I like all Romiko Takahashi Tsunderes. :) Akane and Kagome included.

I don't like Taiga. But yeah. I think I like a character that isn't a bitch all the time. Or in the case of Asuka... has a reason and is pretty sympathetic.

Something about Romiko's Tsunderes though are very nostalgic to me. I can't help myself. They are usually my fave. Probably because Inuyasha made me an anime fan.

I dont necessarily like them when they are abusive. But they are super adorable when they come to terms with their feelings. And my number one waifu, Makise Kurisu, is a tsundere. Though she isnt overly abusive, thats probably why I like her so much.

But anyways, ya I love tsunderes, but of course there are some that I don't like, Taiga being one of them. Taiga was a brat imo. What I like about tsunderes is just how they can't be honest with their feelings, and how easily flustered they get when they get complimented or w/e haha it's cute.

My only issue with the tsundere trope is that, as soon as the show establishes a love interest to be tsundere, they write themselves into a corner:

Either the character has to be pushed into some scenario that finally forces her to be honest with her feelings, OR she refuses to be honest about those feelings and the dude moves on to someone else. While many romance stories that feature a male protagonist often center the romantic conflict on whether the guy can improve/accomplish something, the tsundere trope robs the agency from the plot formula and turns it into "how long will she act like this toward him".

My favorite tsundere stories are the ones where she ends up losing the guy to someone else. Because that's what happens when you don't know how to process your feelings, you lose out. Real life brah lol

My second favorite tsundere stories are a tie between Steins;Gate and Toradora
There is absolutely no reason why I should accept "turn your brain off" as a valid excuse to defend a poor show.

There are two types of tsundere

1) Likable, ex: Emi Yusa (Hataraku Maou-sama) or Misaka (Railgun) or Rin (Fate series)

2) Fucking Prick, ex: Kirino (Oreimo), or Taiga (Toradora), or Aki (Masamune-kun)

Btw I would just like to remind everyone Taiga isn't a tsundere
yes she was abusive towards Ryuuji but you need to remember she was in love with Kitamura at the time so that just makes her violent

and don't give me that but oh it was so obvious they'd end up together. What you know before hand doesn't matter

I can take them or leave them. On one hand Taiga is my favourite anime girl and I love her development. To a guy above who says Asuka has a reason, so did Taiga. Ryuji was being somewhat of a father figure to her and because of her terrible relationship with her dad she acted cold towards Ryuji so she wouldn't be left alone with someone else she potentially cared about.

It's ironic as I can't stand Asuka and she is my second least favourite Eva girl with Ritsuko being my least. Taiga actually warms up in the end but Asuka is a bitch throughout the entire series.

I avoid watching anime with tsundere's in it. That personality increases the chance of a 'cringe moment' to take place. I look through reviews and alike to avoid seeing them. My answer is not really.
I only watch the very best anime out there.
Every anime I think is worthy of my list has to be perfect from the very beginning to the end.
I study the anime and make sure it's 100% satisfying for me.
My current anime project: Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu

As with just about every trope, some are good, some are not. Plain and simple

Generally I prefer the ones that either a) actually grow over time and maybe mature out of the behaviour, or b) actually remain tsun throughout even when they get close to their crush in which case they can be pretty hot doms (in contrast to the ones which just turn meek and shy, meeeh)

I think I actually like oldschool tsunderes. You know, when they still had development and started out thorny and grew more attached and sweet over the course of the show. But the shizophrenic, violent psychopath tsunderes where it's not a gradual development but just a set personality type that doesn't change and is usally not 50/50 but more like 90%+ tsun and almost no dere, can go fuck itself. Without violence or when the dere side isn't only a hypothetical assumption we never actually get to see modern tsunderes are tolerable but I still much prefer the dynamic version with development over making their schizophrenia a set personality type.
I probably regret this post by now.

I like some tsunderes, like Kirino (oreimo) shana (Shakugan no Shana) That twintail blonde chick from grisaia, not sure if you can really call her a tsundere I barely even played the VN thus far so I am not sure and a few more usually in CGDCT.

I dislike others like Rin (Fate), Louise (zero no tsukaima), that bitch from Shitgatsu and probaby some more.

I like them when they are done right. If they are just acting like a bitch because thats what the script says, it feels like they are being a Tsundere for the sake of the show having a Tsundere in it.
