Yeah, I've noticed people here in MAL along with other internet anime communities are living in their own bubble. I hope that people here are just ignorant or misguided about trans people and don't truly hate them, if you understand what I mean. Maybe they were raised by bigoted households, or they were fed wrong information. People can change. I believe we can reason with the folks that have yet to fall into the radicalization pitfall.

It's good that you're standing up for what's right even if you're aren't the best at online debates. The sad reality is that people are stubborn and go to great lengths to defend their bigoted beliefs. They probably aren't interested in reading the counterarguments we present to them. That's fine though because I believe the point is not to change the mines of transphobes but to prevent more people from becoming transphobes. There is so much misinformation about the topic of transgender being spread that it's worth the effort to stand up to bigotry.

how so?

Hello new friend! I see you’re passionate about lgbt issues. Unfortunately, the anime community in particular isn’t the most trans friendly place. It doesn’t seem like the world is making it a better place for them either anytime soon. Lets remain optimistic about the future.

Our anime compatibility is quite high (I don’t often find +40% compatibility for some reason).

It depends on why people are angry about certain content ofc I think, but bashing on all bl content is just dumb. It shows that they only read those that glorified rape etc... and didn't even bother to look beyond it.
I also think that it's really linked to misogyny, when people bash on "too feminine" male characters too, because every feminine trait is seen as bad, especially in men.

No I just wanted to reply later ^^" sry
_Maneki-Neko_ Mar 28, 2:05 PM
I didn't know, but I'm not that well-versed in the english language ^^" in German we have other kind of slurs like (literal translation) "warm" etc ..

Naah, please don't mix us up with these people lol. I almost only know this "UwU this video game is too violent"-crying from the typical Karens lol like the "worried white christian moms" xD
_Maneki-Neko_ Mar 24, 11:39 AM
Oh boi... just because some are doing it doesn't mean all are doing it. And lol... since when is queer a slur?

Personally the fact anime/manga did have guys that bended their gender roles or weren't always straight helped I think in no longer denying how I felt about certain things. Honestly I have only accepted I was a bi a few years ago. Is it realistic or healthy to get impressions about sex and romance only from content like that? Probably not but I have always had a pretty healthy understanding of the difference between fact and fiction as a kid after being bothered by violent films/shows when I was young.

As for the 1/2 thing it was most just to I guess shield myself in case people come after me lol. Again I don't really want to get into some toxic debate. I get people have different experiences and I don't represent them but I just fail to see the argument. It assumes again that gay men or bi men don't fetishize or idealize relationships when we do. I mean anyone that has looked at bara art which tends to be way more male dominated would realize how much toxic relationships exist in those works. Even the idea of the seme uke fetishism again ignores how often bi and some gay guys are very into more effeminate partners for similar dynamics. Most crossdresser stuff is mainly made by men (to a point where they ignore some of the appeal by just making them look almost like women) whereas female yaoi fans like the more bi shonen designs.

Ultimately I understand wanting more grounded stuff and as I actually spend more time looking at more SFW shonen ai titles it seems there are more titles getting praise for how they handle it like Given and Umibe no Étranger (which I am planning on watching soon). I just feel that it's really presumptive that only women are responsible for said unrealistic writing or idealization of less than ideal things. Or that female fans of yaoi don't want more wholesome and realistic depictions either.

Do toxic and bad fans exist yes they do. There are yaoi fans that fetishize real life gay people and that is unfortunate. Should those that do enjoy it but respect real life relationships deserve the same association I don't think so. As for shonen fanbases IDK maybe cause the fans tend to be likely younger but yeah when people think the toxic fujo it's usually from fandoms like that.

I don't think art isn't reflective of your own worldview but often you still need to actually know what that person's world view is before you starting pairing the two. It still isn't as big a factor as people make out to be in my opinion and it again assumes you even agree with it or agree with it in totality. It's very presumptive and just encourages attacks on the fan rather than a discussion of the art itself.
_Maneki-Neko_ Mar 24, 11:13 AM
Huh?
BilboBaggins365 Mar 24, 10:21 AM
Thanks for the friend request. I guess it was because of my post on toxic fans? Yeah I don't really have a problem with fujos but I am a bi guy so I guess my opinion counts for 1/2 lol. I am just tired of the whole art debate and how does that reflect one's views on the world so I didn't want to get too much into that.
