Pheonix is Tezuka's masterpiece, so read it last, in a way it's the peak of manga, at least this is what he wanted it to be

Yeah YOI was decent, but definitely overrated imo. I read your review and I agree with a lot of the points.

It's more a sport anime than anything else, the animation is amazing, OST are really good as well, and I liked the chara designs a lot :) I think the MC is someone you can relate to a lot. Maybe one minor issue is the fact the skating choregraphies are a bit repetitive but at the same time it has been welcomed quite well by the critics for being realistic... I don't care that much about the relationship between the MCs, I've watched it several time when I wanted to feel some positive vibes. An anime like SK8 gives quite the same vibe (actually I'm wondering if it's not the same director).
