Miracle of the universe, please let this be handled by J.C Staff, or even Shaft. Also 2 cours and we're set.

But the studio that made original series is not dead yet, although they are not as active lately (they made two series in collaboration with J.C.Staff lately and thats all).

So it can be the same case as with Mushishi.

I usually don't comment on news articles, but this news took me by surprise. I'm quite excited, yet also nervous about this. I own the original series and thoroughly enjoyed it, so this is some good news. I just hope it all goes well.

It's been a long time and LN adaptations have changed for the worst since then, it may not end up very good.

It does not matter if the studio still exists, the original director is dead and what's left in ACGT is pretty much ecchi factory every five years or so. So its better to go with a proven studio(ex: Shaft who already worked on the OVA)

You know, same can be said about Artland but they made a decent job with Mushishi sequel. If they can hire a decent director, all should be fine.

Can't say I hate the current trend of "reviewing" presumably dead TV series <3 Full Metal Panic, Jigoku Shoujo, now this... What's next :3?

At this point we just need Spice & wolf S3 or fking Despera while we are at it (since its supposed to be revived) to get 2017 as a legendary year.

Whatever studio but shaft, they already made 3gatsu into an irrelevant series.

Well, they worked on the last ''movie'' of Kino no Tabi so the possibility that Shaft could work on this is here, lolz. (Not saying if its a good thing or no tho, i havent watched it)

I take it this adaption will be a new version of the one released in 2003? I'm genuinely curious as the story's synopsis almost immediately piqued my interest.

That picture is bothering me to be honest, it looks like a typical light novel trash and Kino should not look like this.

Never in a million years would I have expected this. The 1st Kino's Journey anime aired 13 years ago! What's next? New Baccano anime? What a time to be alive...

Not sure how I feel about Aoi Yuuki voicing Kino. We'll see I guess.
Coincidentally enough, she did a side-character in the first anime: https://myanimelist.net/character/15429/Sakura

Seconded.. I mean, I've never watched or read Kino no Tabi but I've been wanting to for a while now and I know what it is. But when I saw the cover I didn't even recognize it, which isn't inherently bad, but this really doesn't look like Kino.
..Also is this a sequel or remake or what?

Whatever if it is good or bad or worse, I will look forward to thiiiiiissss!

One question that remains mystery among us that if we are getting sequel or reimagined edition ? Oh well,I suppose there are high chance for remake...

edit: I am betting on either we can see Shuka or Madhouse to make this anime!

Fuck no, both studios would be fucking horrible for this. :[ For this they are probably on the same level as Deen and Toei are for just about everything.

Ahem, the OVA special was animated by Shaft.

I have watched the OVA now. Shaft didn't do terrible but they didn't do great, either. It didn't help that the chapter wasn't the strongest one of course but the cgi and how some scenes played out in animation (the fight, lol) were pretty terrible.

Same here. It seems like lately the light novel has been more fanservice-y, because I also saw an illustration of Kino in a skimpy swimsuit as well.
No doubt they're going to shamelessly pander, it's a modern light novel adaptation. What do you people expect?

Don't jinx it please. :[

It's probably going to be a sequel. Why would you make a remake of an episodic series that has so much more material to adapt?

The cringe is real, all these people overreacting over some art evolution. Idiots. Of course the artist's style changed after so many years. B-but it doesn't look the way I want it to! Who cares, grow up.

It's been a long time since we got the masterpiece by Nakamura. The legend of an artist who has done some of the best or even the best atmospheric anime. And now one of them become a remake or a sequal. This will be difficult. I hope it will be a collaboration project between studios like Shaft, J.C.Staff and Production I.G. If Artland picks this up and animate it like Mushishi than I would be very happy too. Even A-1 Pictures could handle it well if they follow the route they had gone while creating Shinsekai yori. I want a psychological and philosphical anime about life and its living beings like Kino, Hermes and the people they met. Please don't make it too dramatised and keep it simple. The atmosphere is probably the most important aspect in Kino no Tabi. So this will be really difficult that I doubt it will be better or as good as the version by Nakamura. But it's not impossible if they give their hearts into this project and don't rush it and keep a very slow pacing. I hope it will be a good sequal or remake of the 2003 version that makes free room for new creations like Kino no Tabi and other creators took inspirations by it.
Now everyone is only missing the announcement of the DESPERA anime in the near future..

Yeah its worrisome a bit in how kitschy and "moe" it looks, but I'll wait for more than just one picture to judge.

I sure hope they don't dumb it down for current audience.

Going from stuff like this to that picture is quite jarring tho as the show did not really ever go extra steps to sexualize its character(even main character's gender was sort-of-a-twist, considering they are androgynous and do not conform to real life norms of binary gender or even gender norms within the society in the narrative)
