Dr. Stone

After five years of harboring unspoken feelings, high-schooler Taiju Ooki is finally ready to confess his love to Yuzuriha Ogawa. Just when Taiju begins his confession however, a blinding green light strikes the Earth and petrifies mankind around the world—turning every single human into stone.

Several millennia later, Taiju awakens to find the modern world completely nonexistent, as nature has flourished in the years humanity stood still. Among a stone world of statues, Taiju encounters one other living human: his science-loving friend Senkuu, who has been active for a few months. Taiju learns that Senkuu has developed a grand scheme—to launch the complete revival of civilization with science. Taiju's brawn and Senkuu's brains combine to forge a formidable partnership, and they soon uncover a method to revive those petrified.

However, Senkuu's master plan is threatened when his ideologies are challenged by those who awaken. All the while, the reason for mankind's petrification remains unknown.

The anime is fairly easy to watch, set in a world where every human is turned to stone. It uses shonen anime concepts combined with life simulation, survival, and strategy-building game elements. However, it's not about intense survival situations, but more of a lighthearted, gimmicky show that teaches viewers fundamental science. Think of it like the educational videos you'd watch in school, but more entertaining. It's not an amazing show, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously or try to seem overly clever, which makes it easy to enjoy. Watching stone-age people put in great effort to recreate modern inventions helps you appreciate how far ... humanity has come throughout history.

The main character, Senku, reminds me of Souma from *Food Wars* with his sarcastic attitude, playful banter with his father, and endless passion for what he loves, though he has more plot armor. Most of the village cast are kind and hardworking, always willing to help Senku craft whatever he dreams up, creating a warm, positive atmosphere. It’s heartwarming to see them bond and work together.

The show is at its weakest when it tries to force a battle shonen dynamic, especially with the conflict between pure strength and science ideologies. Writing complex ideological clashes doesn’t seem to be the author’s strong suit, and the show noticeably declines whenever Tsukasa’s faction is involved. Overall, while season 1 isn’t exceptional and has a low score, I still enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a realistic depiction of the stone age, this might not be for you, but if you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy a journey of education and creation, you’ll find it enjoyable.

Mixed Feelings

5/10: Fine junk food.

This show for at least season 1 can best be described as anime's take on a 1v1 battle in a CIV game where one player went for Domination and the other player simultaneously went for Science and culture.

This show is both realistic while being unrealistic, funny yet with high stakes. That being said they took the Shonen battle anime formula and honestly the "stakes" don't seem that high as you know that the main charecters will prevail.

The first 5 episodes are really really bad, There is nothing more in anime I hate more then a loud shouting protag and the ... "main characters" Taiju and Ogawa are truly terrible charecters. Im not sure why the show focuses on them for the first few episodes, but oh was I glad that the focus changed. The focus change almost reminded me of how 'Claymores' story changed in the half way point, abandoning the insert character for the more likable female lead, thus making the show watchable. This show was a bit like that and I think the show went from about a 3/10 to about a 5/10. And remember, 5/10 is average.

Overall the show is fine junk food, and certainly diffrent then most shows out there based on topic.

Dr Stone is a "comedy" that starts with a highschool boy getting ready to confess his love to a girl.
But then the end of the world happens and every human in the world is turned to stone. Cars crash. Planes fall from the sky. One can only imagine the amount of deaths.

Turns out people are still conscious in their stone body, and our MCs keep themselves occupied one by thinking of the girl he loves. The other by simply counting.
They break free after 3000 years and somehow still kept their sanity despite being stone and conscious for 3 millennia.

First of all this is a ... terrible way to start a comedy. Im not sure at which point i was supposed to be laughing.

None of the characters are interesting. One of the MCs is always yelling.
The animation looks like flash animation.

Five minutes into this anime i already hated it but decided to give it a fair shot so i suffered through 5 episodes at least.
Its so slow. I kept waiting for something fun and worth watching to happen but it doesn't. I kept waiting for it to make me care but it doesn't.

The action is not fun to watch. The constant yapping is not fun to listen to.

You'd think the entire world being turned to stone would be an interesting hook but its just not interesting.

This is a boring drama about boring ideologies.
