Is it just me, or have I not heard a show where a character says the F word? Is it that bad of a word to say in Japan or something? Genuinely curious, also throw in some other words you haven't heard anime say yet (don't try going off topic).

Look I know this is only auditory/sonic, but that's like, their names. Their names are like 'Fukushima' and such hahah.

At the very least, it makes it hard for foreigners to figure out wich word really really means 'fuck.'

Probably whichever is their slang for sex, tho.

I don't remember if there was one, memory about anime usually not retaining much.
I'm sure the Japanese will rather use their own language than an english censored word unless it's appropriate for the character. Kuso is used more to denote shit, damn and fuck. They are not really there to teach people english bad word.

They do. You would always hear them saying "Kuso" which can be translated to "Fuck" but it's mostly translated to "Damn" or "Shit"

It's mostly how the subbers interpret it.

Different countries use different words for cursing. Correct me if I am wrong but Japanese didn't have a prudish history so sex isn't so dirty a thing. Any prudishness of their culture was an import from the West.

A lot of subbers I assume also just censor for the American market.

I've seen a lot of Dutch youtube channels with official English subtitles and the English is typically toned down extremely compared to the original Dutch. The United States has a legendary obsession with censoring swearwords and all.

It is obvious that "obscenity" is not a term capable of exact legal definition; in the practice of the courts, it means "anything that shocks the magistrate".

Japan doesnt really have swear words. They have ksa/kuso but they dont actually say that irl much at all.

The problem is with translators not appropriately translating in swear words where if that character was speaking english, they would definitely be swearing.

Fuck word has been used in gintama and boku wa tomodachi ga sukanai.
In gintama, it is been used multiple times
here's example

It is used multiple times in grand blue manga as well. Also in OPM manga garou does this

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost."

depends on the rating and overall demographic the show is trying to entertain.
I wish my moe blob shows were more profound. Imagine CGDCT cussing like sailors, now that'd be hilarious.

But back to the topic at hand, just gotta watch more.
And swearing is more common in manga. I can say that much in the little bit that i've read.

And why is that? I simply pointed out the fact that you were mistaken.

(At least if you go by the subtitles. Plus, as others have covered, sometimes they use the English word fuck. On top of that, there are lots of English dubs with tons of F-bombs.)

If you really want to get technical, then here's a quote from Quora.

You might just not be remembering correctly. I've seen it used a few times, I'm just so desensitized to it that I barely register it anymore when I hear or see it.

You edgy teens wanting to hear swear words in your anime.

Manga fan translators throw "fuck" in the text so liberally even when it's not there in the raw text lmao.

Black Lagoon. Panty Stocking and Garter Belt. Highschool of the Dead, but that's a maybe since I never watched the English dub despite having access to it; same for Freezing and Ikkitousen for that matter. The End of Evangelion. Elfen Lied. And almost any given hentai.

Dunno if it's an inaccurate translation or just official translators being prudish, but it doesn't show up in the official translations.

Well, Japanese culture has an extremely scarce reserve of swear words...... The effect of the word is more pronounced in the way you say it.
In a way, I think its really respectable, and I'm fine with it :)

Unless you are talking about some other kind of "n" word.

The language's cursing is largely the tone someone says its insulting words like "temee", "damare temee" ,"kono yarou", "baka yarou"," kuso", "chikushou", "kuso baka yarou"," fuzakeru na",etc."

It could be translated to "fuck" or "bitch" or "shit" if someone said these words angrily enough. Some of them could technically be translated in english to "shut the fuck up", "asshole", "piece of shit asshole", "don't fuck with me", "shit", etc" , if said angrily enough.

But it's not official or anything since it varies by how someone expresses such words. Also because it has more to do with insulting someone's status than some standard english swear. Japan is all about social status so insulting it is extremely ,well, insulting. Subbers stay on the safe side and translate it pretty mildly.

If this is incorrect, I'd love if someone could correct me. But I think this is accurate.
