| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Went to the Crunchyroll theater showing. Great first episode. Love the fantasy setting and overall atmosphere in this series. Also, the art and music are beautiful. Magic animation looked cool too. Chise is so precious. Her past seems really depressing. However, her new life as Elias's apprentice is off to a good start. He's so kind and welcoming. The situation with the aerials ended nicely. Those things are cute, but pretty damn evil lol. The proposal at the end <3 |
| Beautiful. Simply beautiful. With these 3 episodes, Wit Studio so far gives me hope that they will make a fantastic adaptation of this great manga. I loved it all around. The chemistry between Elias and Chise, the world building and it's small funny moments were all a joy to watch. The OST was very fitting for the series too. I have all the more reason to be hyped for this when it actually airs this fall. Can't wait! |

| Really like the episode... seems like a layer back magical anime! watching in theatres was fun as well. I will definitely be watching it when it comes out in the fall season |

| Good anime but I think not everyone will like it. If I had to compare it to something recently, it like Dunkirk, a work of art but some might find it boring and slow as it harder to digest without thinking and focusing. If you are jumping in looking to be entertained brain dead, this is probably not the anime for ya. |

You are commenting about the OVA which was shipped with the Japanese Manga volumes (6, 7, and 8) and had expected you to have read some of the manga. You are not even in the right thread and you expect people to take you seriously? Don't get me wrong the Manga or show will not be for everyone, but your uninformed opinion makes you seem ignorant. |

| Watched the first 3 episodes in theatres for the Canadian premiere. The art and animation is on par with that of the OVA — jaw droppingly gorgeous. So many scenes had me with my mouth agape due to the sheer beauty of this show. Man, that forest scene... MMMMM. And of course, the characters themselves are fine AF. They look exactly like their original designs, only fully coloured and lusciously animated. Really, they couldn't have done a better job with the show's colour scheme; the vibrant palette successfully captures the series' mystical, fantastical atmosphere. The story so far faithfully follows the footsteps of the source. It does not leave not a single scene from the original, but at the same time, isn't a panel-to-panel translation of the manga. This is a good thing. It actually felt like there is a natural flow between each scene, with a general lack of awkward scene transitions that plague manga-to-anime adaptations (still had some here and there though). This is exactly what adaptations need to strive for: being faithful to the source material while adding original bits that simple serve to make scenes connect more smoothly to each other. But there is one little gripe I have... It has been awhile since I've read the first volume of the manga, but were those comedic scenes present in the original? If they were, I must not have noticed them or just glanced over them because they were kinda weak in animated form. I mean the abrupt scenes where you know its suppose to be a funny moment because Elias goes chibi form. They felt very out of place because they were often thrown right into otherwise serious scenes — breaking a bit of immersion whilst not even being all that funny. If they were in the manga, I assume it was not a problem because they were probably panels that were meant to be glossed over quickly. But dedicating entire sequences to them really doesn't work. The theatre was legit dead silent at some of these scenes while only chuckling at others. Definitely something that can be improved on. But despite all that I have said about the comedy, its really not a big deal. Everything else about the show is so stellar that it can easily be overlooked. These first 3 episodes demonstrate the sheer effort and work that the studio has put into making this adaptation as great as possible, and I am fully on board this hype train. |

| Solid episode. Great visuals, nice soundtrack, characters, and it sets up the story well with its fantasy world. 24 episodes of this pleases me greatly. I also really like Chise's role in this so far even from the first episode especially through her character chemistry with Elias. 5/5 for sure. |

| Why wasn't it translated as "Slay Vega"? It sounds much cooler than "sleigh beggy"! It was a very cute and gorgeous episode, the opening felt like it went by too quickly and the art looks just as good as the prequel. Chise and Elias are so precious ♥️ |

| Beautiful start. Excellent soundtrack, beautiful art and animation and faithful to the manga. Couldn't have asked for more, job well done Wit. Love the scene where Elias breaks Chise's shackles and I'm so happy Chise has finally found light in her dark life. Looking forward to more greatness each week. |

There are some mild spoilers, watch it after you get more familiar with the anime and characters. |

| Really good start, the animation was amazing and the way we were introduced to the setting so far was handled well. I also really liked the chemistry between Chise and Elias. Not really a big fan of the comedic bits though. This was one of my most anticipated shows and it delivered in this first episode. Can't wait to see more of this soothing, calm story. |

| Not completely amazing but enough to be best pilot episode of the season so far. Knowing the OVA's, i was attached to Chise already whenever they brought up the little flashes to her past. Her and Elias make a very interesting duo. Visuals were great and the atmosphere was just as good as in the OVA's. |
