JC Staff...

I was not expecting this. Also not sure how I feel about Chikara Sakurai as director. His resume doesn't look very impressive to me.

What? What's going on? Well, now my expectation is much lower than before. Both the studio & the director definitely not as solid as the 1st season's.

I warned people in the announcement thread about being too fast with their assumptions that it will be the exact same studio and staff line up but the "Madhouse does Season 2s" meme had already drowned everything else.

On the bright side technically the studio change doesn't matter much as Madhouse was more like a working place than anything else. This would stand true if the director change didn't happen.

Shingo Natsume was the sole reason why Season 1 turned out the way it did. He has a vast amount of connection throughout the industry and he gathered a star lineup of freelancing animators from all across the industry.

With him as such an influential figure gone is the actual drastic change here. This is what people should be concerned about.

Losing the director is a much bigger blow here. The new director is more known for his work on Naruto so I'm curious how different the second season will be in comparison.

The staff OPM gets now is more than enough, as it was mentioned many times before, japan need to focus their people on more important projects not this.

Just an assumption but the producers probably wanted s2 to happen quick but the staff and studio working on the show are busy with other projects. Same thing happened with Mahouka where Madhouse got dropped.

Chikashi Kubota once said that the animators who made the first season only imposed that quality on the animation, because they had a passion for what they did, and that they were just passionate animators doing what they like and that it had nothing to do with Madhouse like company, because it was not Madhouse who did OPM, but the animators in love.

I believe that Kubota was not sincere in what he said, because even more so! They were passionate about what they did, that does not mean they were ordinary animators. Each animator who worked on the series had a name, and only entered the series because the director knew them and had confidence in their talents. Many of them have a large number of works in large series. I've never seen any animator connected to the first season of OPM doing jobs in small studios.

Then there is the question: a passionate animator is one who does work for any studio to leave his mark, or is the one who only works for big studios, or directors who sometimes do work in medium studios, and invite them ] to do some scenes?

Now about the J.C Staff: I do not think this is a big concern, although I really am very shocked that this studio does many series in the year. Everything will depend solely on the producers and the director of the series. I do not think Madhouse is dying, as some exaggerated ones try to put. This could mean a change in the studio. Maybe a business expansion or more ambitious long-term projects. Madhouse remains an exemplary studio. Now, returning to what I said above: if it's true what Chikashi Kubota said, then that will be proven next season; that the studio does not matter, but the animators in love.

Lmao at the trolling. Madhouse never change, keep your curse strong (at the very least they are still doing a season 2 to CCS on Winter) xD. I can already smell how salty some fanboys of said studio will be and ofc the potential hate that J.C.Staff will get when this airs.

Anyway, not a fan of the show, but I hope that J.C. Staff still does a somewhat decent job with it. Taking out the action parts it is not too hard to screw it either way.

Wtf, JC Staff? Madhouse said they were working on it this whole time, what a disappointment. It's probably not going to be anywhere near as good.

And with that, some more hope for anime has been lost...

What's next? Only 12 episodes for Steins;Gate 0?

I mean I can understand some of the disappointment already. Let's face it, OPM was a unique show mainly for it's fluidly animated fight scenes. Madhouse had so many freelance workers on OPM that after all this time, it's impossible to get everyone back on board. People just need to understand that.

That said, I am quite disappointed with this but I will be hopeful that while J.C Staff most certainly won't elevate the fights as high as Madhouse did, that I'll still be enjoying the season and what it covers.

I mean, even then J.C Staff could surprise us and actually make the fights greater than what we expect from them. Regardless, here's hoping for the best.

hit and miss I don't trust director anyways and well the first one punch man was never good to begin with imo

Yeah, I'd say the director is more of a worry than the studio. Even though it still sucks Madhouse jumped ship on this one.

Having a good judgement on J.C Staff is Key they really are hit or miss mainly depending on on the type of show and even then they put out some solid looking scenes in some of the more average shows ,i still think about LB season 1 VS 2 in the overall quality boost.

but even liking J.C i can't support such a big change when they had something good going shit i ant even that crazy on OP but i respected the love and passion that bones and them put into making it look great it's gonna be hard to top that but here's hoping.

Well, i'll wait until PV. If first trailer of first season already set some bar, i'm expecting the same with a second season. But not have high expectations. Studio is not very important, but first season had such a impact thanks to all people, who working on OPM (especially, animators). And i'll doubt, that second season will have a same treatment.

Yeah, time to go back to Murata's manga then
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...
