The animation was amazing. Best scenes: family breakfast gone wrong + hologram's ear after a fall (you'll know what i mean when you watch it), the little touches make it just so good.

also, what happens to the bodies of those caught in the magnetic rose? bright portal thing isn't particularly satisfying.

Sucked into deep space.

Unsatisfying, like most of this movie. T.T

Are you using some kind of advanced logic I don't know about? Have you decided to assign new meanings to English words? Are you just intentionally burning a straw man and knowing full well that you're changing the subject and misrepresenting a claim?

Movie is definitely a master piece, this was without a doubt my favorite of the three. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Though the questions that Naruleach brought up were actually on my mind too.

some movies are better left off without deciding the ending and "this is one of those". for me it would be good if he either died or find some peaceful station that was also on that space landfill.

same here...dead or alive I dont care, but that guy heinz was kick ass. I thought that it was better than the usual ghost ship stuff to be honest.

I wasn't sure what it was at first but I'm glad they went the psycho AI route instead of a supernatural theme for this one. Loved it.

if i get this right the cause of the computer or AI to malfunction that give illusions is the strong magnetic field surrounding that junkyard in space

That was really good. Incredible animation and heartbreaking story, very thrilling. I think it has left some points open for the viewers interpretation, done quite in a beautifully way.

that was one of the worst anime movies i have ever seen! its not as bad as Akira, mind you, but it just didn't appeal to me all that much and was far too confusing
"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

This was quite good. Art and animation were superb and the atmosphere (especially in the first half) was haunting. I was positively surprised by this.

Heinz was awesome and so was the old guy on the ship. Miguel was a bit annoying though, but that was his role ^^

Magnetic Rose was amazing. The music (both Yoko Kanno's contributions and the opera singer's rendition of the piece from Madame Butterfly) and art were both beautiful and eerie, and together created the perfect mood for such a fine story. The incorporation of the theme was seamless as well. The scene of Heinz's memories was brilliantly executed, and the open end could not be more appropriate for a story like this.

Love the atmosphere of this episode. It's a haunted house story but taking place aboard a space ship. The space setting and lack of gravity through much of the episode gave an extra feeling of dread to the whole proceeding. It's a very nice horror piece with heavy atmosphere.

Strong magnetism can f*** with your mind.

At least I prefer that explanation than what's supposed to happen, none of which really holds together convincingly (they just instantaneously believe CG holograms and forget who they are? which are actually junk metal that flies out the ground? Controlled by a dead person/computer that can read minds? Why does she need brainwashed captives when she has holograms that do the same job anyway?).

Nice art and zero-G effects but has the same flaws as Morimoto's Beyond (Animatrix); nice exploration of an alternate reality but otherwise quite hollow and aimless. But then I'm in a minority of really liking Matriculated.

*I know he just directed this but the storytelling's still somehow unsatisfactory in the same way.

pps the other parts have been compared to Dr Strangelove & 1984, so I'll raise you a Solaris!

This is the best of the bunch IMO. It was better at horror atmosphere than all horror anime I've ever seen by far. Heinz was awesome and my only complain is they should have showed the spaceship rescuing him or something. After all that shit he went through he deserved his happy ending. Heck, I would watch a 26 episode series with Heinz as the lead.

Wow I loved this episode. It was a bit creepy and I was so confused haha. But I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought. The part when the little girl fell off the roof and smashed into the ground. Omg Q^Q I wanted to cry. The poor dad.

I don't think the director's main goal was to be sensible and rational, but more just making an interesting visual story.

I have a feeling that if the Memories listing on MAL was split inbetween the three episodes (like another similar bundle called "Short Peace"), Magnetic Rose would be in the top 150 at least.

Wow this was very good. Background art was superb. Especially at the start in the hall with the red columns, that was my favorite place.
Animation was also quite good.

I would have preferred a more clear ending; what happened to everyone, how does that phenomenon(?) occur, but still really good!

This is brilliant film, I was drawn in right from the start.

The first few minutes did a great job of setting the scene and characters.
Once they started exploring, the atmosphere was intense right through to the end.

I honestly loved every minute of it, I thought it was amazing.

Space horror is the best horror. It had me on edge the entire time. 5/5

The shadow in the mirror running away... that kind of stuff is great. Too bad there wasn't more of that "type" of spooky stuff.

As soon as the (fake) little girl stepped out onto the roof after her daddy... what was going to happen was immediately apparent. When his daughter was mentioned earlier, he didn't say a thing.

Yea, I like it tho, the opera gave it a special touch.
btw I'm starting getting into 80s/90s animes because of this animation style, it's so... delightful

I really enjoyed this movie.
The animation was pretty fluid and even though it was only 40 minutes the characters stood out to me.

Rogue AI messing with your mind in a space setting with some horror elements ... never thought I'd actually see that ... let alone in such a great way that "Magnetic Rose" did.

Solid 9/10

That was truly Amazing. The plot was interesting and was executed nicely. The atmosphere was really scary. The Ending left us with many unanswered questions but that's the best part. Because some things are better left unexplained.

I'll be frank here. I liked this better than Akira~

Even after launching the laser to escape, the Corona still ended up disintegrating to the Magnetic Rose and left Heinz aimlessly launched into space where he'll probably starve to death without seeing his family. Miguel's hooked up with a psychotic AI of a century-year-old opera singer. He's such a player that he didn't even need to get lured in by one of his chicks like how Heinz needed to be lured in by Emily xD The only problem with him is what he'll eat since everything in that ship is a hundred years old and tastes like shit lol

Some parts actually startled me, especially that first time when Miguel pressed the piano '^' I hope that Emily's death was just a fabricated illusion rather than a bad memory of his, which is actually more likely if I think about it.
