This year's 52nd issue of Shounen Jump magazine announced on Monday that Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter manga will be taking a break starting the first 2019 issue of the magazine. Togashi commented that he has already done the next ten chapters worth of the manuscript, so he would like to slow down and discuss according to his physical condition and situations in order to progress with its completion.

Hunter x Hunter began in March 1998 and has had many hiatuses. The last hiatus was this past April, and the series resumed on September 22. The 36th compiled volume was released on October 4 and sold 498,226 copies the first week. The manga also received two different anime versions: one by Nippon Animation in 1999 and another by Madhouse in 2011.

I know it might not be a news to some people, but just in case you would be wondering about not getting new chapters from him and the reason behind it.

This manga takes more frequent bathroom breaks than I do after drinking half a pot of coffee.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

Honestly, you can bitch and moan, but the fact is, he isn't a well man and needs time off.
At least he isn't taking huge hiatus because he can't be arsed, like Black Lagoon's Rei Hiroe.

Then why doesn't he just end it? Then he can take a break and recover from whatever illness he has. These frequent hiatuses are ridiculous. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been canceled yet.

I know Togashi is all like "MA PRIDO" and shit and wont let anyone even his famous mangaka wife help him draw the stuff, but hopefully he's pulled a GRR Martin and wrote down the rest of the story somewhere so in case he dies someone ends it, cuz this shit is getting ridiculous.

He has incurable back problems.
And what the fuck, dude? It's Togashi. He's continuing as he is in pain. He wrote fucking Yu Yu Hakusho and is now writing Hunter x Hunter lol He's the father of the shounen genre. Everytime the manga is back he sells. It's obvious it's not gonna be canceled.

I don't get why so many people that don't read the manga/never watched the anime/don't know anything about Togashi come to complain when hiatuses news come out. lol

bruh the inhumanity of some of yall's comments is disheartening as fuck. the man's sick for god's sake and it sounds like some of yall want him to work himself to death instead of getting rest his body clearly needs.

to any comment that might say: 'if that's the case, then he should just end it', maybe he doesn't want to or isn't ready? it's literally his creation and maybe he still has things he wants to do w it despite his sickness. i know waiting around is a pain in the ass but find something else to read and wait like a reasonable person for him to make a healthier return.

No one is surprised by this. It was bound to happen just like all the other times in the past.

And there was already a good opportunity to end it with the previous arc. I'm questioning why any of this is even necessary in the first place. It's clear Togashi has no firm motivation to continue the series properly and his health issues aren't helping. It's not like plenty of other manga weren't axed for similar reasons.

At this point I just give up on HxH entirely. Not going to bother beating this already dead horse.

Aside from some people who think they are more fun than they actually are, many people, me included, follow news about this series because they want to read it, but are afraid of getting stuck because of hiatuses.

Complaining here about hiatus is as useful as "thought and prayers". People love this manga and are frustrated they can't continue. Venting in comments doesn't hurt anybody.

Personally, even though I respect Togashi and wish him well, I just can't not smirk when I see such news. It's pretty much a meme now. Blame my dark humor I guess.

Togashi the author should really hire a drawing artist already and just focus on storyboards or storytelling part only but no he insist on drawing everything by him even though he have health issues already

Pretty sure it has more to do with the fact that with Naruto gone, it's now their only other series (One Piece excepted) that tends to break a million copies per volume. If JUMP cared so much about good storywriting, they wouldn't hold such a strict cancelling policy.

Even with Naruto, it would still have been only their third million copy seller. No one in their right mind is gonna cancel such a series. The reason I said with Naruto gone is because without Naruto, JUMP now only has one, potentially two, series that passes a million copies per volume, that being One Piece and, potentially, Hunter x Hunter. You don't kill a chicken that lays golden eggs even if it stops laying eggs for a while, especially not when you only have 2 left.

If they really cared so much about the reputation of their series and writers, they would not have canned Bleach the way they did.

First you say HxH was allowed to go on hiatus bec Naruto ended. Since you were wrong, now you change your argument and bring Bleach into it. -_-

I never mentioned Bleach in my original comment, so if you want to bring it into the conversation, the least you could do is provide some proof bec comparing it to HxH doesn't even make sense. Bleach's volume sales have been steadily declining for years. It's been surpassed in sales by newer Jump titles like Haikyuu, Hero Academia and AssClass. Last Bleach volume was released in November 2016, yet its nowhere in the top of the Yearly Volume Sales list for 2016 or for 2017. The same can't be said about Hunter x Hunter which is still topping yearly volume sales despite the constant hiatuses.

That' not what I meant. I meant that since Naruto has ended, JUMP's million copy sellers have come down to just 2, One Piece and Hunter x Hunter. I meant that Naruto ending gave JUMP even more of a reason to not cancel it. Hell, this is what I said:

Bleach was an example. An example I gave to show that JUMP cares jack shit about the reputation of the series or author. Only the money it made mattered.
