A country with a noticable clock tower...
And also, corrupt police. The social society of this that country is controverisal to say the least. I felt bad for the guy that got jailed.

Loved the thrilling feel of this episode.

Kino is afraid of the "teacher", or because he was like that when hermes told him that if the teacher returned to the country?
The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.
The question is "Why do you like it?" That tells a story. Your story.

A very funny episode this week, which is not something I ever expected to find myself saying about this show. Once again though, moving the focus away from Kino allowed something different to be explored, and in this case it was interesting and entertaining to learn more about her Master, especially as the original series never really did anything on that front.

I second this, people behind corruption always smart, but these polices are idiots.

These polices could have guard behind the buildings that circling the tower, eventually, that 2 will die of starving.

And I doubt that by looking at those guns, they can shoot further over those buildings circling the tower, to cause trouble to others.

The police cannot just randomly shot the clock tower since it's a historical building and government office. Waiting for those two to die in starvation is also non choice due to citizen's pressure (the police wasn't the only organisation that used the tower, the entire government did). And The police can't just enter the clock tower, since Master planted a bomb in the building.

A very dark and disturbing little tale, and while I laughed at times it's not a source of easy humor. But that's the good thing about some of the best Kino no Tabi stories--you don't get easy moral results. No matter what happened in the end, a pretty much insane potential last stand on the top of a clock tower is not very likely to reform a whole society. Hell, the US government can't even manage to pass even one single law to limit gun ownership, instead preferring to let thousands die.

I'm not terribly interested in debating the details, but I don't think that's ever the point. These are parables and odd adventures that aren't to be taken literally, nor are there any easy lessons (or perhaps there are no lessons at al)l. That's why I like the show.

i believe he was 1 of the police when kino master going wild, based on his expression when kino mention about being shot on the leg.

i assume the monument and the story on that country believe were being distorted as well to make it at least more heroic than the truth.

So, the police in that country and even its government were corrupt, so Kino's Master and her apprentice intentionally targeted them to get their shit together? Or they just really went to that country as travelers and realized how fucked up its government is? They acted like the terrorist, but they ended up being the heroes because yeah they made the people powerful and stand against the people running their country? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The fact that even those policemen they shot on their knees see them as heroes. Haha. Goddamn, they even made a monument for Kino's Master and her apprentice. Haha.

That whole negotiation scene with the police and Kino's Master were so hilarious. Jesus.

5/5.

A great episode. I definitely laughed a lot.

I love Kino, Shizo, and the Master for how they compare to each other. Had Kino visited the Historic Country when it was under corruption, Kino probably would have tried to get through without causing a fuss, unless Kino were forced to fight for some reason. Shizo would have intervened and attempted to get the government to treat its citizens better, most likely using force as a means to do so. Here, the Master, as shown, doesn't care about the country at all. She just wanted to make money and get a bit of revenge by causing as much terror and pain as possible. The way she extorted money from the government was hilarious, and works as a foil to both Kino's philosophy of general neutrality and Shizo's personality of wanting to help others.

The sepia and monochrome colors was kind of cheesy, but it's something I haven't seen much of, so it was an interesting touch to visually differentiate the different time periods. However, seeing as this is a series where we've had walking mechanical fortress cities along side nomadic travelers in horse-drawn caravans, a sense of "history" is really hard to grasp. For the purposes of the episode at least, the idea of history is really played with. I love how architecture can signify different things based on perspective and framing, where the historic building, which was a reminder of the country's monarchy, then worked as a government building symbolizing corruption and police rule during the Master's time. Then, by taking a defensive position atop the building and reigning terror from above, the tower then turned into a symbol of fear by the government, ending as a symbol of hope and heroism by the future citizens. Though, for the Master and her apprentice, it was merely a good place to shoot people.

The different interpretations lend to the idea that history can be reinterpreted depending on perspective, especially when history is manifested in physical form, hence the tower. Though, again, the Master wouldn't care, which also mirrors the series' sentiment of merely presenting a story for people to watch and take what they want from it. Was this a story perpetuating speaking out against strict government rule, highlighting the need for citizens to take a stand for their rights and fight back? Was it a story about two terrorist travelers who caused mayhem and chaos out of spite and to make money? Was it a story about how Kino admires and fears the Master, where either the Master or Kino exaggerated parts of the tale for dramatic reasons? Much like the series as a whole, there are many ways to look at this story, especially in the discussion of history, but the most fun way is probably the best.

I agree, this is a stupid episode

that was boring and corny. What a let down, I was gonna rate this high bcoz of world building and potential only to get this forced comedy and stupid logic. In 3 days the cops already tired like they spend 10,000 years and their soul evolved or something lol

And people say this show is much darker compared to the previous anime coz its loyal to the source material. Smfh

If there's one thing this adaptation is doing much better than the original, it's that it takes the time and effort to develop it's supporting characters. In the original I was disappointed that we were introduced to Shizu but never saw him again after the Colosseum arc. Now we've already seen him twice, and now in the last two episodes we've seen the introduction of three more supporting characters.

It's interesting to see the world from the perspectives of these characters as Kino seems to travel from country to country as a neutral observer without causing any disruption (with some exceptions), while Shizu, the Master and her apprentice all attempted to disrupt the political and social order of the countries they visited. I find these episodes to be much more interesting compared to the ones that predominantly feature Kino.

I'm still loving the OP, look forward to watching/listening to it each week.
