| The only thing I didn't like about this episode was how it was kind of confusing the exact sequence of events. I thought that for a while I was watching a flashback until Hina met with Rei, otherwise I really liked this episode. |

| I wanna know more about that Souya guy, he looks like a Honey and Clover version of Kaneki Ken. He looks so cool. Lots of introspective moments but I want to move forward. Hina-chan is so cute even Momo-chan when she told everyone that Rei cried. 100 yen smoothie is no big deal for the rich prodigy while it's a huge decision for people on a tight budget like Hina-chan. Hina-chan sees her crush at the burger joint. What's going to happen next!? D: |

| Wow, I somehow missed downloading this episode ... oops D; Slower episode this week with mainly Rei's thoughts on how he's "stagnating" and losing games in a row. Being hailed as a child prodigy must be pretty tough. This Souya Touji guy (I think that's his name) is pretty interesting too - maybe he's someone that Rei has looked up to? I wonder what's their relationship like? It seems like his teacher seems to look out for him as well which is nice. In the end though, I'm glad Hina gave him an invitation over when she realized he wasn't doing so well. Oh man that ending though ... poor Hina getting all flustered like that! Man I really hope those two have a conversation next episode it'd be hilarious I bet XD Seems like he might get invited over to dinner as well ... is this the blossoming of young love?! :P |

| Another fantastic episode. We finally met Souya who seems to be an interesting character. I wonder if he faced similar situations as Rei. It would be really cool if he was just an older version of Rei and struggled just as much. I'm also really liking the parental figure Hayashida takes with Rei. It's really sweet to watch. Show keeps this up and it may actually go down as one of my favorites. Loving this stuff. |
| this is moving so damn slow.. from the unnecessary MEANINGLESS head-turn that's SHAFT/Shinbou's trademark, to the incessant symbolism that actually takes away from the realism of the issues at hand, and a tons of useless shit making this drag on for far too long. (and I am the type who thinks Mushishi pacing is perfect) The doggo and neko speeches are rather annoying imo, the first time maybe it was cute, but now it's like mate I want to listen to the characters not your fluff speeches that add nothing to the series whatsoever. So far this is rather disappointing. The "game" tag is very misleading, this has even less sports than Shion no Ou which already had very little compared to the likes of Chihayafuru/Hikaru no Go. Most of the events so far are not really related to shogi in any way shape or form. Hoping the series really picks up its pace soon. |

| I love how Rei’s teacher shows concern in his own ways. He’s a great teacher who has built their own kind of rapport. At least Rei is not completely alone at school & he is looking out for Rei♡ ╥﹏╥ ╥﹏╥ ╥﹏╥ ╥﹏╥ That scene at the fastfood place ಥ﹏ಥ Hina was worried & thinking about how sad Rei has always been & she knows something has always been bothering him yet she gives him his space by never probing & then invites him to join them. | This episode made me realize how important food is in creating quality time and community. They get together always around food, and that's what keeps their bond together. I really enjoy that aspect of the show. |

| Not as emotionally engrossing as the previous episode and some of those SHAFT neck tilts really feel out of place with a series like this, but was still a decent episode on the character front for Rei. This show when it doesn't click 100% with its episodes can feel really slow to get through but luckily there's a lot more good in this series. Lot of heart is still in this series regardless of pacing. Music was really good too, I feel like I underrated how good the quality and usage of it is with the series. |
