Hahah I just find it so funny that people are surprised now that he's only 12-13 even though it was said already last ep. To think I would pay more attention than some others. But he really doesn't look like he's only in his first year of middle school.

Good episode, I like the character chemistry that Takumi and Go are building up.

Takumi seriously doesn't look his age at all, He's not even 13 years old :o.

Takumi really does treat Seiha badly but honestly I'd blame his Mom and Go Mom's , It's because they keep asking him to talk to Seiha and ask him to give up baseball that he ends up being so rude to him.

Quite perceptive of Go to figure out that Takumi was weak against pressure, He's also never been up against bases loaded and no out or had anyone hit consecutively off him. Based on the post credit scene and the events that transpired I assume he has some kind of illness that makes him really weak under pressure. Probably why he makes it a point to never let anyone get a hit off him or why he doesn't want to bother himself with things that would only add pressure.

My god, the mothers in this show are terrible. Please don't tell me actual Japanese parents force 12 year olds to give up their hobbies and dedicate all their time to studying for the sake of their "future". That's just how you get your children stressed, depressed, and anti-social. They've still got 6 whole years until they're even in college, let alone looking for a job. Leave them be.

I still dont get whats the point of this series.

Pitcher seems to have reached early puberty..

The cruelty towards the little brother is just too bad. Telling no you cant play without any proper reason.

The ending scene was a bit promising, something happened before.. hmm.

I think they've made it very clear that the reason Takumi doesn't want Seiha to play baseball is because he has some sort of condition that makes him very frail with a weak constitution. Yes, I think he could be a little nicer about it, but he's just concerned for his health. And that last scene shows that maybe he has (had) something similar?

I am enjoying this show. I think the dynamics between all of the characters is done really well. But I just wish they'd pick up the pace a bit. Especially if this is really only going to be 11 episodes.

There's obviously a lot more to Takumi, and they are slowly peeling back layers, and I like the fact that Gou is really helping to bring him out of his shell.

Damn, for a 12 year old he has some serious issues that need sorting out. I do like the fact that as a 12 year old he knows he may just have a few million dollars attached to his body and before anything else tries to protect it.

I was hoping this would progress I little quicker into playing actual baseball but I guess this might be a sob fest?

Not complaining I love sob fests!

Very curious tho on how they will go about this story.

Well , I love anime sports, but ''Battery'' just feels like more Slice of life instead of sports lol. They have great animation tho.

I like how at least they got knowledge of curve balls, breaking balls and sinkers tho props to that , anybody who watches baseball would know that haha

And idk, the way the characters looks like and their personalities look more like 16 years old, not 13 lmfao, and Takumi's mom even said he's not even 13 yet I was like WTF XD

What are you guys opinions ;)?

Quit baseball to focus on your studies, when you're 12? I know how Japan is big on the whole studying to get into a good school thing, but it still feels like overkill. Not to mention trying to force Takumi to get them to quit. Jesus, no wonder he acts like that.

Poor Seiha, his brother really acted like a jerk. Takumi is so hard to read and when you learn that he is not even 13 years old (O.O). He seems to have a disease too, hope it's not too serious.
It was really a great episode, I love how Takumi is detailed, he seems to be a complicated character.

Best part of the episode though was when the two brothers were arguing and Go is like " nice one little guy" without being able to read the mood ... if it was me intead of takumi then youd know for sure that after Go is Gone ( no pun intended ) seiha would have had to go through worse than if go hadnt meddled

I like how the show make 13 year old pouty snub nosed teenagers feel like 13 year old pouty snub nosed teenagers , but with the current pacing im not sure we'd reach anywhere by the end of 11 episodes.

You can tell this is more character/drama driven than most sports anime.

I was expecting more Sports action but I guess it's okay.
Seems like Takumi has some illness. BTW he doesn't look like he is 13.

This show is like the Hai to Gensou of baseball anime. I was subconcsiously comparing it to Ace of the Diamond, but that's not going to work for this one. I'll give it a few more episodes though before deciding whether or not Ill drop it.

On a different note Takumi is kind of a major dick though im sure he has his reason, but still there's pretty much no reason to tell a 4th grader not to follow his dreams.
Around and around the cycle goes.

I agree. I feel like this show didn't live up to people's expectations of being a sports anime. It's more of a drama/slice-of-life with some sports elements involved.

OT: Does Kazumi remind anyone of Kageyama in the beginning of Haikyuu? Their voices sound a lot alike too.

Why do all the characters keep yelling at each other? That's just as annoying as Seiha's voice.

And the parents pushing this "tell him to stop playing baseball" onto Takumi instead of doing it themselves is ridiculous and obviously weighing on him. Takumi's mom's attitude is pretty awful anyway.

Everyone is saying how much of a jerk Takumi is, to Seiha and to basically everyone else around him, and I feel like that is exactly the point.

He has a bad attitude and is mean, and in RL I wouldn't like him one bit, but as a character I find it actually makes him interesting and I keep wondering where exactly that attitude is coming from.

I don't mean this as "oh poor boy, he's so misunderstood", because the problem most probably lies with him, but that makes it all the more realistic and intriguing to me.

At first glance, the relationship between Takumi and Seiha seemed to be quite the normal relationship between older and younger brother, but now it's getting more complicated, tho it's not a relationship without any love either. Seiha still likes Takumi, and he wouldn't if Takumi was always mean to him (but that's probably also due to Seiha's maturity).
Takumi definitely seems to have complexes when it comes to Baseball and Seiha, and while that could turn out to be boring, right now I'm quite looking forward to see how this will play out.

Go is quite the balanced character, tho his mom will probably make some more problems in the coming episodes. (But I'm honestly not that interested in that, because she seems like your typical "studying comes before everything" kinda mom. Guess she'll just have to suck it up.)

I really hope they'll actually play some baseball next episode, though I'm pretty sure the main focus of this anime won't be the actual baseball playing.
Considering it's based on a novel series by Asano Atsuko, it's probably a lot more of a slice-of-life kinda anime.

Everyone is giving Takumi shit, but you need to keep in mind he's 12 years old, despite his looks+voice. Throwing in his relationship with his mother, he's acting fairly normal for a kid his age going through the rebellious stage. We don't know what's up with Takumi and Seiha yet (family illness?), but we know that their family is overprotective about Seiha and his physical condition. So Takumi acting like a dick to Seiha is most likely his way of being overprotective about Seiha, as he probably knows what will happen if Seiha pushes himself too much.

But seriously though. Why the high school style artwork when they only in middle school? e_e

Same! Takumi's all-mighty attitude is something, but that woman and his mom are twice as bad... I hope he learns to open up to others, and can speak sincerely with them without insulting them too much though.

Very good episode. That was a long time ago that I saw my last "Attack of the japanese mothers" in a manga/anime, and here we have two of them! I was quite surprised that Takumi has fallen under the pressure (pressure he partially put on himself) so soon, I was actually expecting such an event for the middle point.

5/5

Why is almost everyone against children playing a sport in this anime?

- The game will be nothing more than an element of the frame where the boy(s) story will be told.
- @ReaperCreeper @BubblyHunter Usually, you will find this element in stories about high-school students: it is better for them to cast aside various entertainments/time loss inducing hobbies/etc to concentrate on their success at the university entrance examens (where you are selected). For that there are "jûkû" or "yôbiko", private "tutoring schools" who make them study in addition to the normal education. They even pass several mock examens there.
Here, they are only 12 but one of them is in a "jûkû" and the other comes from a wealthy family. I suppose the mothers are only applying the japanese idea of: to have a good life, enter in the best university, this needs to be prepared by following night tutoring and by being in a well-regarded high-school (to have better chances at the ultimate trial: uni entrance), this in turn requires to be educated in the high-level junior high-school (and to be in a juku) to prepare the high-school entrance examen, etc. This road of hell can start at the kindergarten, they're no school but some will form your little child to raise "his" hopes to reach a better primary school.
