GET DRUNK

Ha, this episode was kinda silly with Haku and the others. Kinda fun seeing the family connections of this episode and past backgrounds:

Had no idea Haku was able to get drunk so easily lol
Also, I think this series really likes baths. Every episode.

BEST EPISODE OF THE ENTIRE SEASON SO FAR

BEST GIRL KARURA AND SECOND BEST GIRL TOUKA ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG

My god this episode was just the epitome of greatness.....The beginning scene with Karura and Haku in the bath drinking sake was too great and I love how calm and collected Haku was and then the scene when she pounced on him xDDD

Then the reunion of Touka, Karura and Kuon.....Man those two haven't changed one bit and I love that about them but what I really loved is how close they are and how motherly they've both become towards her....Heck if Kuon is that close with those two I can't even imagine how close she is with Aruruu and Camus >.<

And that group scene with toddler Kuon and the old gang.......Simply beautiful and I can't even express how emotional this episode made me feel and how many times I smiled, laughed and cried and those drinking scenes were too great

Also this episode is the prime example as to why you HAVE TO HAVE SEEN season 1 or played the first VN in order to watch this....Soooooo many references......The cameos and name drops, more hints on the name Haku, Tuskuru, holy shit.....This makes things even more interesting because now it looks like Tuskuru are doing recon on this country

Fucking brilliant episode.....Also going by the ending I wonder if they're actually going to make

Bet you all $100 that the next episode will have a bath scene, and the one after that, and the one after. Fun episode overall. Haku should lay off the alcohol.

So many old characters, especially in the flashbacks, including Hakuoro. I loved seeing all of them again; lots of interesting developments with the old gang raising Kuon. She named Haku after Hakuoro (obviously) but she was embarrassed because they all realized it immediately.

Return of one the -ruruu sisters next week, perhaps? Really hoping to see Karura fight at some point in this anime. Return of the big blunt sword :D

The bath scenes might seem overdone, but at least it's not done in an obvious/ecchi sort of way; it's more of an atmospheric thing the fits into the lore well. Plus it's a good excuse to get characters together for dialogue.

So we meet some of Kuon's family and get more bath fanservice! :D Having not watched the first series much of the impact was lost on me, but it was still a calming, enjoyable outing, I think. :D

Touko and Karura are essential characters to season one as well as many other characters shown in the flashbacks and with darkened faces. Would HIGHLY recommend you to marathon season one... not only is it excellent, but who knows what other important references you might miss in the future. It's also significantly more action oriented (at least compared to what we have thus far in season two).

Yup, figured as much. I'm considering it more and more each week, but still gonna pass for now. Might if I get the cheap DVD set during the holidays.

So awesome to see Best Girl Karura and Touka back.

We got more high quality, 10/10 bath scenes this week, so no disappointments there. Very fun episode.

And the plot of both shows starts to directly connect.

Nice to see Karura and Touka an its great to see hints at all the things going on behind behind the surface. Loved the acknowledgement that they have a reason to be in this country, as well as all references of Hakuoro and short cameo of the Utawarerumono cast.

It was really great to see how the group was raise a child, with that being Kuon.

At the end was like a coming of age ceremony for Kuon. It would be great to see how Kuon's other mothers are doing at this moment.

My memory of season 1 is very faint... should've written these tiny essays to help remind myself for highlights and such. Rewatching it after this might be good.

They're back! Well, just Karura and Touka for now, and the rest are just glimpses. I wonder if Kuon is the daughter of
and
That would explain a lot, like how she came up with the name, why she got embarrassed when Karura brought it up and she said it didn't mean anything, why she was raised by many "mothers" + one "sister"...among other reasons. I hope more of the other "mothers" make a full appearance later on as well.

Why did Touka's hair colour changed?

But anyway most important question. I am fine with spoilers as they will just get me more hyped.

Will we see Hakuoro from S01 in flesh in blood or even in a flashback in this season?

maybe old colouring vs new colouring rofl, I like this current one better though

Nah,
this may be the only episode we see a flashback with him

Still a beautiful show with wonderful setting but it could be so, so much more. The way it is rolling right now, it's just... not bad per say, but not utilizing the potential of the series, at least the way I imagine things in my head.

And it's very noticeable that Katanagatari's director is working on this, the way episodes and story flow is very similar, the way it's more focused on talking, interacting and just keeping things chill. But it doesn't really work that well with this series because the content of the two series is on whole different levels.

Great episode. It was nice to see the old characters again, and I liked the Eruru references.

I think Toyoka may be right, and they may give her a bigger role in Kuon's upbriging.

Is it just me or does the animation quality increase when they're in the bath XD

Anyway nice ep. Good to know more about Kuon and her background. Also to see she's actually scared of something XD Some of Karura's glares are quite scary tho tbh ^^;

It's just weird to hear one girl calling so many women my mothers lol
Kuon's family life must be quite complicated. She was so cute as a loli <3

Can't wait for Aruru and more of the previous girls :D Hearing Sawashiro Miyuki VAing an older Aruru will be so good >.<

It's just a bad translation. This kind of verbal tick at the end of sentences is quite common in anime but you usually don't see it literally translated every time since it often doesn't have much meaning.

Goddamnit, I felt like I should've known these characters! That's what I get for not having watched the original show...

Anyway, it was a cute episode. Man, Kuon is just too adorable. Haku being pass out in the background was hilarious. He's a goddamn alcoholic.

I'm glad to see those two in this sequel, they changed a lot with the time being, Karura got a little more reserved and don't like to be called as a 'mother' by Kuon and Touka became a lot more feminine but still clumsy as ever.

As someone which only have played the first game, I'm surprised by the fact that Kuon was raised by all the girls from the first series, this wasn't said during the game and the first series and was a nice touch to this episode.

I hope they make a cameo of Kamyu and Oboro as well.

Karuuraaa! Yes! And they even used the same music :D And Kuon is her daughter no less, what a surprise :) Or is she?

So finally we get to know that this is set some 15-20 years after the first game.
And Touka appears too, I guess I'm in heaven. Did she become nun? :D
Character interactions in this epiosde was pure greatness.

Hmm, but now just I have to wonder... what if Haku is really Hakuoro from the old days? Is that even possible? (I hope he's not as that would make his relation with Kuon somehow... problematic :)

Oh my bloody tears of nostalgia can't stop running down my face when I saw those two turning up once more!!!

Then the cuteness is simply gushing from this episode when they talk of Kuon past and how they raise her along with the others within the country, as well as how Karura HATES been referred to as mother as little Kuaon found out when the god of war rears it's ugly face....

I would like someone that played the game to do some verifying on the scenes to see whether they are very different from the game or not.

But so far the story and scenes are nice, slightly laid back but hey I'm sure it'll hit into high gear sometime in the future.

For now I'll watch and smile at the story that's unfolding before us.

And . . . Karura proves once again that even a full generation later, she's still the best girl. And Touka keeps a distant second (yes, she's also filled out quite nicely).

As noted, this episode would mean very little to those just picking this series up to start. To them, it could even seem rather slow and even pointless, while the rest of us are dancing around with glee.

Not necessarily. It's only hinted here, but Karura's drinking capacity is whale-tier. The scene we see with all those bottles strewn about suggest that Haku's actually very good at it. But against Karura, he was still doomed to fail.
