An official website has opened for a fourth season of the original anime Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki. The series is the original work of the Tenchi Muyou! franchise, which spans three OVA seasons, four spin-off TV series, and various movie, manga, and light novel adaptations.

Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki was created by Masaki Kajishima, and 20 episodes were released as OVAs between 1992 and 2000. The series was previously licensed in North America by Pioneer Entertainment (later Geneon USA) until the business unit closed in 2007. FUNimation Entertainment rescued that license in 2008 after reaching an agreement with Geneon to distribute its titles.

Further information will be revealed at a fan appreciation event to be held on November 28, 2015. It is a double event to commemorate the recent spin-off Ai Tenchi Muyou! and the new Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki series.

Two cast members from the original series, Masami Kikuchi and Ai Orikasa, will be featured as guests for the Ryououki segment of the event alongside Haruhi Nanao, who starred in Ai Tenchi Muyou!

Eh not sure how I feel about this. It's been a very long time since I've seen anything related to the Tenchi franchise outside of the shorts so...

This is rather surprising. So we don't know how it'll relate to the previous series?

Tenchi Muyo is the main reason why Harem became a mainstream genre.

Anime needs more Space Opera and Cyberpunk.

Not sure about Rumiko but TM is supposed to be the grandfather of harem series where the lead gets the girls because of his skills, not just because he's the MC and a clumsy cretin.

I hope they have learned their lesson form that short flop that was released recently.

Never understood why they made that Ai Tenchi Muyo shit, it has absolutely nothing to do with the original OVA series... but hey having a fourth OVA announced is fucking awesome. Let's hope they can get the majority of the original cast together, Orisaka Ai killed it as Ryoko <3

Tenchi Muyo was the 2nd anime I ever watched, so it will always have a special place in my heart. As long as I get more Ryoko, I'll be happy. She's still one of my favorite anime characters.

Watched Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki a long time ago, but never was a big fan of it. Not sure how to react, hope it's nothing like the short we recently got.

RAGE!!!!! One of my favorite series ever.

I do hope that they incorporate Kiyone into this as I absolutely love her character. She's one of the main reasons as to why I love the Tenchi Universe series as well.

We knew it was coming. Frothing anticipation is….tentative. It could be a bust like 3rd OVA. Let's see what you guys can do. Can they Bring back the magic of the original OVA? Somehow I'm doubtful.

A lot of people who stayed at AIC have moved on now. Roughly twenty organized under WillPalette and are helping IMS with Shinmai Maou no Testament this season. They're working at the same location, so it's a combined effort.

As for Ai Tenchi Muyo, the line producer joined Hiroshi Negishi's company, G-Zero (a quasi-revival of Radix/G-Zero Room). Recently, they re-acquired rights to Saber Marionette and Master of Mosquiton through a new subsidiary, AIC Project (not Anime International Company, but they seem to be licensing the same logo and branding), so it's possible that they have their eye on Tenchi Muyo as well.

One of the first anime i watched growing up and during Toonami's original run. And my first harem anime, this what made me a huge fan of the harem genre & a bigger fan of harem endings/harem routes.
I'm glad so far, this looks like it's going to continue with the Main Series of the OVA with Tenchi Masaki as the real protagonist and not a spin-off. No, Idea what direction they going to go, it can go north or south. I will be keeping an eye on updates for this.

COOL!!! - one of my all-time favorite series. Hopefully they can bring it back to the glory of the first two seasons - the third wasn't all that great (which of course is understood, seeing that the original creator died).

Masaki Kajishima, the original creator is not dead and still alive.

Pretty much.

Anyway, anything other than the main OVA series is non-canon.
Don't bother if you don't know how special effects were done without computers.

Not quite, series (GXP, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari) , Omatsuri Zenjitsu no Yoru manga (by Kajishima) (especially the Omatsuri Zenjitsu no Yoru Omake Ban is pretty important one manga itself AND after words by the man himself) and novels that stemmed from OVA are all part of the canon. Kajishima go all the way expanding the universe and never stopped, although some of it just random bits and blips here and there.

Yeah, I know about that.
What I meant is that Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and the movies are not part of the main OVA series.
Sorry about that, I should have been a bit more specific.

Hard to believe I've been into this series since 1998. Happened upon it entirely by accident on public access TV when I was looking to catch Red Dwarf after our English teacher (from England!) had mentioned it to our class one day. After all these years Ryo-ohki is still my favorite version of Tenchi and my favorite OVA by a long shot. Lots of fond memories. I'll definitely be watching this one.

Might as well give Ai a chance in the mean time even though I gave up on it after the first handful of episodes.
