Studio MAPPA stands for Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association. It was founded by the co-founder of Studio Madhouse after Maruyama resigned from the company. (I think when NTV bought Madhouse in 2011, there are some conflict so Maruyama left the company which is really sad because he spearheaded Satoshi Kon's Dreaming Machine. )

People tell us that Mappa "The objective behind the studio is to achieve greater creative freedom to pursue projects that may be less obviously commercial."

A list of their works:

Kids on the Slope (co-produced with Tezuka Productions) (2012)
Teekyu (2012 – 2013)
Hajime no Ippo: Rising (co-produced with Madhouse) (2013 – 2014)
Terror in Resonance (2014)[4]
Garo: The Animation (2014 – 2015)
Rage of Bahamut: Genesis[5] (2014)
Punch Line (2015)[6]
Ushio and Tora (co-produced with Studio VOLN) (2015 – 2016)[7]
In This Corner of the World (TBA)

What do you think of them? Do they produced anime classics like MH though they are still a young studio? Any MAPPA works that you like?

Bahamut and Punchline are very good but can be forgotten by anybody in a few years

according to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AHo-_XEV6E&feature=youtu.be&t=1m45s Maruyama is the reason why Madhouse went bankrupt and he can do that with MAPPA again from the way the disc sales are going for MAPPA, but they are still a new studio so lets see if anything will change for the better

Shingeki no Bahamut: Good
Hajime no Ippo Rising: Great
Garo the Animation: Great
Teekyuu: Good
Ushio and Tora: Decent enough so far
Zankyou no Terror: Shit
Punchline: Shit
Kids on the Slope: Never saw. Looks very interesting though.

A fine repertoire so far. Even when they aren't good it's hard to deny any effort or creativity being put into their stuff.

Now if Maruyama would just get to making my sig a reality.....

MAPPA so far never dissapoint me though a fairly new studio.

Not changing this signature until`MAPPA announces that they're
adapting Naoki Urasawa's Pluto

if that happening that is wonderful.

How what? How is Punch Line terrible? It's a boring, incoherent mess; it's one of the few shows I couldn't finish. Now mind you, I don't have a problem with ecchi. I'm watching Shimoneta this season, and I think it's hilarious.

But, to be fair, I haven't seen much of MAPPA's work, so maybe they aren't consistently terrible.

MAPPA is by far the best studio around. They've got some of the best animation quality (second probably only to UFOtable) and they put a lot of attention into their work. Teekyuu is pretty much the short that made shorts. Terror in Resonance is the closest to perfect an anime has gotten in the past few years (fuck y'all guys who don't know what metaphorical character writing is). Rage of Bahamut is the closest to Pirates of the Caribbean level of fun anime has ever gotten. Garo is just straight up the best anime of 2014. And all three of these were out in 2014.

hear hear

Kids on the Slope - haven't seen, production wise I heard good things though
Teekyu - good short,but well it's a short
Hajime no Ippo: Rising - haven't seen
Terror in Resonance - looked great, problems lie elsewhere
Garo: The Animation - underwhelming, but some fight scenes were excellent
Rage of Bahamut: Genesis - an actually good medieval fantasy anime, the source material being a card game makes their work even more praiseworthy imo
Punch Line - dropped
Ushio and Tora - so far so good,MAPPA really managed to give it a retro feel.Could very well become their best work

I wouldn't say they have produced masterpieces or classics yet but they are on a good way.Really liking that they adapt a retro shonen and stick to the older style, unlike Madhouse.
Also they are making SnB:G 2nd Season and that's a good thing.
But it all depends on who's working on the project so it's hard for me to give credit.
One thing is for sure though, they make better shows than "post Tatami Galaxy Madhouse".

The studio is absolutely amazing. I don't have much shows from them rated highly, I can't say that I liked all of their shows, but I love MAPPA as a studio.

They've produced so much different shows. Shingeki no Bahamut and Zankyou no Terror were absolutely stunning art wise, those are easily one of the best looking shows; Punchline took a bit more simplistic, almost cartoonish but still very interesting choise of artwork, at least in my eyes ( not to mention how interesting and unique the itself was ); and now we have Ushio to Tora, packing 90s looking visuals.

I might not like all of their stuff, heck I dislike some of their shows, but I respect the hell out of them for trying so many different things - visually and actually content wise.

That's actually true. I really dislike studios which repetively dish out the same types of shows just because they sell (looking at you, KyoAni). Variety is so important imo that any studio which actually takes risks is one whose shows I will always look forward to.

Mappa is already among the best visually but they still have a lot of work when it comes to the script though, SNB and ZNT were mostly style over substance.

I wouldn't know. I'm waiting for the 5th season to finish to marathon S4, S5, and the spin-off. But that's not my point though.

They stopped working on the only good show that I saw from them, which makes me think a bit less of them.

I'm waiting for them to start production on the Dream Machine, Satoshi Kon's unfinished movie, as they promised years ago (apparently the studio was created with that end in mind). Otherwise, I don't care really care much about MAPPA, as they haven't made anything worthwhile yet.

A pretty good studio. Honestly, I've only watched Zankyou no Terror from them so far, but from what I've read, their works display a wide range of creative freedom. I dropped Punchline (I'm kind of iffy on ecchi), but I love Ushio to Tora so far.
The animation quality is very nice and consistent. Now if they'd just actually animated Urasawa's manga Pluto in the future...

HOW CAN ABSOLUTELY NONE OF YOU HAVE SEEN KIDS ON THE SLOPE? I never thought it was so underappreciated. You guys NEED to see it right away! its literally studio Mappas best production (not to mention its just generally one of the best titles you'll see lately). Gosh, the art, direction, animation, ost, everything was just majestic. Plus they adapted the full manga so that too. Mappa is amazing simply because of that, not to mention Zankyou, Shingeki no Bahamut and Punch Line. All extremely beautiful shows ( okay punch line not so much). But seriously, the studio outdid itself during its very first production (and believe me i've seen Baccano!, Steins;Gate, AnoHana, Fate/Zero(F/Sn too), Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Barakamon, Psycho Pass etc, and i still think Kids on the Slope is equal to (if not better) than most of these).

I don't think they've yet to do anything outstanding but I respect their impressive production quality. They've made two of the most visually stunning anime series I've seen in years. Since they're a fairly new studio I think they have potential but I wonder how they will cope financially.

I like them. I only consider Kids on the Slope to be great (haven't watched all their stuff though) and I don't like everything that I watched made by them. However they're pretty diverse and I appreciate that they don't make the same type of show over and over. Besides I've to say that even the shows that I don't really like are still pretty well made (art/animation/ost wise).

I think they are a solid studio. Pretty young but they've done some good work. If they adapt Ushio to Tora properly then they could end up becoming a really great studio.
