Reinhard reminds me of Ender from Orson's Scott Card's Ender's Game. Military Genius and will put bullies in their place, with severe methods to ensure they never get bothered again.

So far the series shows its potential to earn the title True Elite.

Another good episod. Reinhard's personality hasn't really changed through the years, I laughed when he kicked that kid in the balls.
Another page to the history of the Fujaku.

good episode, but theres no way reinhard and kirchies should had been able to run away from 4 heavily armed guards then just stop and dick around after falling down a hill.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Ugh so good.

I don't know what people are talking about. These first few episodes alone have already surpassed the two other shows often compared with this. I really like how they spent this episode and the previous one expanding on each of the main guys, especially this one because we have a sense of Reinhard and Kirchie's motivation for fighting.

Reinhard's hella hilarious btw. LOL I laughed out loud two times from his antics.

Reinhard smacking the guy who held his leg out in class with a smug grin made me laugh. Didn't expect that. Then he started beating someone with a rock, and that was even more unexpected... Was cool to see their past at an early stage anyway and how the two of them became friends.

Best episode so far I reckon. Beautiful backstory. It damn well got me motivated! Can't wait to see what Reinhard and Siegfred have in store for us! Taking down the Kaiser? I really want to see that...

Nice backstory of both, while we did get this part in a more extended way with the prequel but knowing that it aired after the main series it is understandable they added this! Either way good episode!

You don't seem to understand what the meaning is of "filler". Seriously though this episode is far from being a filler as it was a great and detailed backstory of both characters.

It's cool to get a look in Reindhart's country too. This was a great episode for the background of those two characters. It had just the right amount of plot development, characterization, and it didn't take too much time showing them screwing around as kids, it spent just the right amount of time on all of them. This series is gonna be really good-I just feel it.

Good back story on Reinhard, he sure does have a huge ambition and the ability to do the impossible with his intellectual mind. Loved how he beat the shit out of that bully though, quite a slow pace episode tbh but it's alright.

Good episode. In childhood Reinhard von Meisel and Siegfried Kircheis lived next door and one day the Kaiser bought Reinhard's sister Annerose. In order to achieve power to get Annerose back, that was the motivation to become high rank soldiers and more. Before I thought Reinhard and Siegfried were some cold-blooded soldiers, now I like them more.

Lol even as a kid, Reinhard didn't take shit from no one.

Besides the dumb moment of them outrunning the police officers, this was a nice backstory.

Don't tell me Siegfried only became Reinhard's friend because he was after his sister's booty the whole time?

This is basically the same as the earlier portion of Golden Wings, except they didn't storm into a party firing guns in that. Surprised no-one found out who he was and got him sent down for life (Siegfried even helpfully called out his name)

Backstory was quite predictable to be honest. Though nothing is better than a man aiming for more and more power. But again, very boring episode and very awkward too especially the momentarily pauses, instant zooms and lack of lip-syncing.

3/5 for this episode, a good one.

reinhard seems to be quite mature at his age and quite daring. there is the sense of him thinking everything revolves around him, like when he introduced himself to siegfried and almost demanded that they be friends. anyway, he has so much power now. it's nice to see the difference between him commanding half of the fleet, while yang simply commands nowhere near that amount.

My suspension of disbelief is spread a bit too thin with all of that CraptasticSecurity™ and the sheer spineless of Siegfried, the Sidekick Extraodinaire - his motivation for following Reinhard is lousy, even if you factor in what may or may not be a hopeless infatuation from first sight with Annerose.

Also, anyone else getting Ender Wiggin vibes from Reinhard?

When you are a noble kid - which is what the “Von” states in Reinhard’s name - in an Empire, then there is very little you can’t get away with, even if you are poor. Reinhard thinks nothing of beating hell out of a commoner who doesn’t know his place or bringing a gun to a society ball, because he knows he is above the law. There are elements of this, even in modern British culture. Look up “Bullingdon Club” if you don’t believe me.

And Annerose being plucked to serve the Kaiser - presumably horizontally - isn’t strange either. Princess Diana and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall both stem from wealthy and aristocratic families. It’s William who has broken from tradition in choosing a bride from outside his own class.

It’s fascinating to watch a European-style Imperial system filtered through a Japanese sensibility. Reinhard’s childish rage still seems to be driving him, where Wen-Li appears to be acting out of duty. It’s also very unusual to see Why answered for one of our viewpoint characters so early. Filler this ain’t.

This is warming up to be deep and complex. What next?

Anyways, Reinhard got half of the space fleet. Remarkable. Atleast the Galactic empire wants to win.
So many funny moments and yaoi too. A fujioshi would have had a nosebleed by now.

Running slowly. Animation failure. LOL.

Harmless yaoi.

You were wonderful in bed.

Kiss.

Time to watch overture.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was bound to lead me to a slow death.

That was more emotional than I expected. Kircheis is going to be a fantastic character. I also have a feeling he's going to die later. I'm interested to see how long he stays loyal to Reinhard. I feel like Reinhard is less likely to betray Kircheis than vice versa.

There's significant backstory for the two boys, but Annerose has an important line too, how she says she'll do everything she can for Reinhard's future. She must have helped him along the way through his military career. There's several people who want to see Reinhard succeed.

An episode about Yang's rivals is useful and not even boring, it provides the viewer with the motivations that underlie what animates Reinhard and Sieg, in having chosen that kind of life and explaining the context that exists in the empire; to counterbalance what reigns in the world of free alliance, after all the whole world is a country, as an old saying of my parts says.

Damn Reinhard was really scary as a child, he took that stone and hit the other kid with it like it's nothing

I love how in one episodes you get the characters backstory, so we all know what's their motives, relationships, goals
It's simple but pretty effective for me

Eliminating those with weak genetics; it does sound like an efficient method to evolve. Spartans used to kill weak babies back at the very old days. Funny how thousands of years later--in this anime--humans return to those barbaric methods. Didn't expect to see Reinhard's & Siegfried's backstory this early on, but honestly I can't say I dislike that. Though, I must say, Reinhard is pretty awesome! Even as a child, he could carry his own weight.

Last episode we saw that "freedom" of the Alliance that reminds a lot about our failing political systems, while this episode the Empire shows its true colors as a fascist regime no different from Nazi Germany.

The only positive protagonist is Yang Wen-Li who hates the Alliance and wants out of the war.
Beside him, they all are war loving scum, no side is right and I wait for them both to go down in flames.

Not sure if this show is for me. It's just so sloooooooow. Maybe it's because I'm a millennial.
It doesn't have to be ADHD quick like in some modern shows but I think this story could've been told in half an episode.

And like stated some comments above, the music is pretty boring too. Not necessaly bad but it plays a lot and doesn't seem to add much. Also the action moments seem to lack power, mostly it's just silence. No music and sound effects.
