Lol that said though I am sure in Japan its unavoidable to end up naming your child, without that name having appeared in an anime or manga. Must be a fun thing for any otaku parent to come up with a name that either comes from their favourite.

Or just trying to think of a name that isn't in an anime.

Nah, naming your child after an anime character just shoes how overly-obsessed over anime people are. Sure some might be non-japanese names, but naming them those because of an anime is just dumb.

Stop pushing your hobbies on your children.
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

Well I have a classmate (a girl) whose name is Kira....

sasuke lol orochimaru lolol

i'd probably, maybe, i think... Probably something like Son (first name) Goku (middle name) Johnson (last name)...jk ;D
But seriously, I'd probably name my son "Light" or "Matt" and my daughter "Mello" <== xD

An eastern name on a western child just wont work, but I am still waiting for someone in the park to shout out 'Pikachu! Fetch!' to their dog. Also calling your son Naruto is social suicide for your son.

Thanks for the idea...if I ever have a dog :(

Though I would never give my child some wacky otherworldly name like 'Accelerator', 'Last Order' or 'MISAKA 19090'.

now that you mentioned it, "Accel" seems like a nice name...

If you live in an English speaking country, or probably any non-Japanese speaking country for that matter, you're condemning your child to a school life of bullying. If you're the parent that loves chaos then this is the path for you.

I saw some people named their children after an anime character like 'Kenshin, Hiroshi, Kenji' and they are not Japanese. Most people think it sounds cool though.. I really like the name "Nunnally" so I might name my daughter after her.

Some people believe naming kids after their favorite stuff are cool. However their kids are not their pets.
If you want a child to have a peace of mind and healthy connection with his/her peers, refrain from doing that.

I know I posted in this thread before, but that was quite some time ago, so I've kinda sorta changed. I likely wouldn't name any of my (probable) future kids after an anime character, if I do find a name I like, I might consider it.

One example would be Sara. I mean, it's a pretty universal name, loads of anime characters have the name and it's a really nice name too.

And while it's not anime, if I get a boy, I'm definitely fighting to name him Altair. The name has a very nice meaning (if I remember correct, it means "the flying one" or something like that) and it's the brightest star from that one constellation.

Well, considering most anime get their character names straight off common Japanese names, like Aoi, Yuki, Kana or Haru, if you're Japanese, I see no problem. If you name your child something like Erza or Usopp or Rengoku, it'll be a bit like calling your son Clark or Bilbo.

I wouldn't do it personally, but I'm fine with other people doing it. I once had a Danish physics teacher name his daughter 'Shanti' which comes from the Sanskrit for peace. He was really into meditation and yoga, but could not even pronounce her name correctly (as Indians would anyway). I didn't mind, it was just kind of funny.

Also, I think it's weirder if you give your child a Japanese name when you're clearly not Japanese or not living in Japan or are not married to a Japanese person or do not follow the Shinto faith. It's quirky and different, yes, but also weird. Imagine a Caucasian guy called Ramdas or Hariharan (fairly common Indian names.) It's perfectly acceptable, but still weird. Maybe you should tell us what name you're considering for your child. Because if it is something like Light or Sanji or Kisshot Acerolaorion-----, we should have an intervention right here.

You could just have two kids and call the older one Toyota and the younger one will address the older one as Toyoto-nii-san.

Have seven daughters and name them all after the pleiades maids in Overlord (Yuri Alpha, Lupusregina Beta etc. all the way till Narberal gamma.) Then change your name to Ainz OOal Gown. Rename your wife Albedo. Perfect otaku family complete, I say.

there was originally only one but you started something that cannot be finished.. therefore i am going to force the older one into a state of self-loathing by having the younger one say two car names instead of one... flawless parenting

I'll maybe name them. But only names that works well on my country (Israel).
Characters like Maya (Glass Mask), Mai (Mai Hime) and Guy (Naruto), Aki (Yugioh 5D's, although in Isarel it is boys name) have name that works fine in Israel. But I won't call them with names like... pretty much the most of them.

But I named my cat as "Mitsuhide" after Akechi Mitsuhide (the historical figure, but he is anime characters like in Sengoku Basara and Sengoku Otome) so I already kind of did it.

Depends. Since I really doubt alot of Japanese people can avoid naming their child with a generic name that appears in an anime.

But I guess if you are not Japanese and you name you children after your favourite naruto characters it would probably be weird. That said you can still end up naming your children with Western Names like Edward and Alphonse from Full Metal alchemist.

But I guess its find at the same time, since you can tell your children I want you to grow up having big dreams like Naruto.

I really doubt it, unless I marry a Japanese or an American/British girl. The anime names are not usually used at all in my country.
