Call it pretentious, call it a deconstruction of the modern Japanese Otaku call it whatever the fuck you like, I'm calling it fucking awesome. It would be even better on LSD. If you guys liked this, go watch Dead Leaves.

Good animation & sound but a deep message (who isn't so deep when you think about it twice; addiction has been broached in some animes without being figurative) behind some Wtfness or simply boobs and Wtf (the interpretation is up to you) doesn't make it a 10/10;masterpiece;(call it what you like) for me. Still it is good.

Brilliant. The best Music Video I've seen in a decade. The animation is perfect, the music is great and the story is seriously touching. The Highlight of the Expo at this point.

The real name really seems to be ME!ME!ME! and it's by Teddyloid(DJ) feat. daoko(singer)
In 9/10 cases, the worst thing about an anime is its fandom.

That was so freaking trippy but I loved it. It was nice to see some Evangelion (figurine) cameos. xDD The first half was so sexy yet weird as heck. I really liked it when it went to the whole FPS mecha scenario. I'd really like to see more of this to be honest. The music fit so well too, loved it!

Lyrics are out on the website if you can understand Japanese... It's a bit more comprehensible with them for reference, but songs being songs, some of the lyrics are a bit hard to understand as there is a lot of abstract ideas.

I definitely liked it better after rewatching after thinking about it for a little bit and reading people's interpretations. Actually, having watched the other shorts as well, I'd say this one was the most dramatic and not because of all the ecchi stuff...

Listen and be surprised! There is actually only one song but there's 3 parts. The name is "me!me!me! feat. daoko" and each part is referred to by name + part number. So the first part is "me!me!me! feat. daoko part 1", and so on.

This video is not only stunning on a visual aspect, but it's intricate method of storytelling. We're given a deconstruction of the typical otaku lifestyle that is normally overly glamorized or encouraged by the media-convincing the otakus themselves that there will be no shortcomings to their life choices.

But then we have Me!Me!Me!, we have a stand in character who isn't the object of affection hordes of girls but rather the subject of anguish and regret for denying reality. He loses his one true link to the real world, his girlfriend, and sees that his obsession with fiction will eventually eat him away from the inside. And even if he does try to fight, it's a ditch he's dug himself into and will repeat the cycle of wanting to overcome his ways only to fail.

A bit morbid and certainly not done in a package you would expect, but that's what makes this short film so amazing.

This is an epidemic born of pulling away from society. The hurt of rejection is one of the most painful things people can experience. It is a pain so strong that it can make you not want to feel it again. Most people tend to draw-in their shells after a painful experience, and they lack the support to pull them out. Whereas the Otaku culture pretty much promises you won't feel that pain again. It's always there, and it's programmed to love you. It's not "real", but it's there.

What does the "real" have to offer? Well, look at the hate we (collectively) spew everyday. It has no empathy, no understanding, anything. Looking down at the comments, I see things like "I fucking hate weeaboos" and "People need to get a life." and "People who have these problems are autistic and need to be out the gene pool anyway." If that was my only exposure to "real" people (which for some of these people, it is) then even I would have a difficult time trying to justify why I would want to be part of them anyway.

You can say it's "not your problem" and if you discount the fact that since you are part of human society and what hurts one of us is going to hurt us all, then yeah, maybe it's "Not your problem." But to simply expect someone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and fix themselves alone isn't going to help, because doing things "alone" is what got them there in the first place. Human interaction is a skill. It's a skill you can learn and lose throughout time, and if we don't give them the reason or opportunity, if we are going to stand back and judge ourselves superior just because we were lucky (yes, lucky) to have that supportive group to lift us back up when we fell, then why would they even want to get better? What reason would they have to be part of us?

And to end, this problem is only going to get worse. We've only had the technology to develop synthetic relationships for the past couple of decades, and it's only going to become a more powerful temptation for others. Right now, it's dating sims and digitally reproduced anime girls. Oculus Rift and Google Glass. Bam, she's right in the world with you. Advances in Artificial Intelligence, then Bam, replaces the need for conversation. The ability to program that into a robot that has "realistic parts", then bam, no need for any physical interaction. Having a holodeck where you can not only have multiple women of your dreams but also be anywhere, anyplace, anytime and doing anything, then the only reason anyone would do anything is so they can afford a new module for their holodeck. Then the human race ends with not a bang, but a whimper.

I think ME!ME!ME! might be one of the greatest anime shorts of all time. Not only does it look nice and have an awesome soundtrack, the most common theory that it is actually a criticism of the otaku lifestyle really makes sense.

It might look like a porno overusing shock value but the fact that it touches on a real-life issue with fandom makes it a great work of art.

I just love the whole transition of the music video. Like it can be upbeat, then sad, then angry. I love the lights towards the end but my favourite part of the whole song/video, is the part where the music is slower and a bit more emotional.

To me this was the best explanation that I found, both in terms of logic of the explanation and my personal agreement with it (and I read up a lot of explanations from different people from different sites for this video). This was a comment from a person made on BlackCriticGuy's Me!Me!Me! Analysis video:

Bravo. You hit the nail on the head on this one and managed to elucidate far better than I could've hoped for. I'm sick of people brushing this video off as a typical softcore porn and failing to penetrate anything other than the surface level of content. However, I would've liked if you had examined the actual lyrics more (I don't know Japanese either but I found a video with subtitles in Spanish and I have a rough grasp on that and managed to vaguely decipher some of the lyrics), as I feel they shed light on another crucial plot point- HANACHAN (the dominatrix fantasy girl) is just Hana (the crying girl) attempting to emulate the male protagonist's fantasies.
In the first scene, we have the quintessential J-Pop lyrics- "I was thinking of you", "We were together during every moment, forever and forever," etc.; however, the final line before the mood shifts is rather bizarre, "I would like if you would show your pain to me." I interpreted that as the male protagonist acting dissatisfied in their relationship because Hana wasn't as attractive or perverse as his anime girls and Hana (who is the one singing the song and whose point of view is being expressed through the lyrics) wants to know how she can change to accomodate him better.
The song shifts to a more sensual, dirty feel and the lyrics change to match. Disturbing lines such as, "You told me I'm the sadness and pain in your life", "Do you believe that's not just a lie?", "I am the product of what you believe", "My heart will change to your will", and other cryptic phrases are included, and I thought of that as Hana slowly changing herself into HANACHAN, giving her previously innocent and naive voice a more sensual and suggestive tone and saying things that a dominatrix in some over the top porno likely would say to try to please the male protagonist, distorting herself into a perverse image of herself.
The next scene contained lots of Spanish words I couldnt translate. Some phrases I managed to sort of parse and are probably completely inaccurate are, "Show me a scene from your life, a product of your lies and indecision", "Extreme dissatisfaction, real life was too dangerous", Regret and loving me are the only things you can do nowadays," "I tell myself the same thing as a form of distraction", "I will sing for you, you are insufferable", "I will always remember your essence", "Thinking of you will only distance us more, now I can't stop thinking of you, to remember you." The final line of this part of the song is "I will be waiting for you." I interpreted this as Hana/HANACHAN breaking down and confronting the male protagonist, desperately attempting to convince him to quit his otaku lifestyle due to the damage it's causing their relationship and its impact on his life.
When the male protagonist equips the space armor and machine gun, the song begins to repeat two phrases over and over; I don't know what the last word of each is, but I know that they both say "Something is __" with an -ing verb at the end. I /think/ the lines are "something is falling away" and "something is suffocating" but I'm likely wrong. Then out of nowhere the phrase "You were a good girl" is said. I saw that part as Hana attempting to reconcile how she's changed for the male protagonis as he desperately attempts to ameliorate their bond and discard the fantasy.
Finally, in the scene with the bullets firing out of the girls' tits, the lyrics are, "What do you think you will do with your life? What do you think you will do to make a living? I don't care. You will always be a failure", "By your side, by your side, I was waiting for you, I loved you." The last lines of the song are strangely in English rather than Japanese; "Hey, hello, hey, look, hey, hello, look up to the sky... I'm not going anywhere." This verse shows Hana's reaction to the male protagonist's failure to break out of the cycle of addiction, no matter how vigilantly he fought back.
The lyrics really add another layer of this, displaying the crying girl's side of the story as an accompaniment to the main story, the male protagonist's. Keep in mind that these translations are likely somewhat inaccurate, so take this extra analysis with a grain of salt.
Great analysis, dude!
EDIT: Thanks to Google Translate I've compiled a rough translation of the whole song.
VERSE 1: Forever, forever
We were together during every moment
Forever, forever
I was thinking of you
Your company
Your pose
My feelings were divided into two, baby
In a moment like this
I would like if you would show me your pain

VERSE 2: You told me
That I'm deep inside of your being
That I am your hatred and sadness
What you created, is it not a lie?
I am what you have created, is this the true me?
My heart will change to your will
Narrow-minded or false memories

VERSE 3: Give me a life lesson, a product of your indecisive mind
Extreme dissatisfaction, real life was rife with danger
A direct hit, dividing into two the suffering of my days
Return to me, love me, what I have done...
If only I could erase it all
I'm going to fall deeper
Falling into unconsciousness
I will tell myself the same thing as a form of distraction
I will sing, I will sing for you, you are unbearable
You're not here, you disappear in the light
But I still remember your essence
Thinking of you will only distance us further
Since that day, since that moment, when I had that dream
A flower
Now I can't stop thinking about you
In order to remember, in order to remember you
I am far more of a crybaby than you would think
I will be waiting for you

VERSE 4:
Something is overflowing
Something is being superimposed
Something is overflowing
Something is being superimposed
She was a good girl
Something is overflowing
Something is being superimposed
She was...
Being superimposed

VERSE 5:
What do you think you will do with your life?
What do you think you will do to live?
It doesn't matter how you live, you will always be a failure
The fear that binds you, it accumulates, growing as it overflows you
The memories of those moments, they are overlapping
She was a good girl
Envy her, envy seems fun
I gave my best for you
What are you going to do with yourself?
I would like if you realized that they're just pieces of a broken mirror
By your side, by your side
I waited for you, I loved you
Hey, hello, hey, look
Hey, hello, look at the sky
I'm not going anywhere.

I feel like each verse switches between Hana and HANACHAN, with verse 1 being sung by Hana, verse 2 by HANACHAN, verse 3 by Hana and so on. HANACHAN being the male protagonist's deepest sexual urges incarnate, it'd make sense that verses 2 and 4 were sung by her, the former being her molding to the male protagonist's urges and the 4th mocking him about how the old Hana is gone. Hana, being the innocent and considerate girl she is, would sing verses 1, 3 and 5. The first verse is her inquiring how to become a better girlfriend for the protagonist, 3 is her confronting him about how this visage she is putting on is consuming her and how his lifestyle is detrimental to him and 5 is her realizing that due to the male protagonist's desires, they have both been brought to ruin.
It really is a tragedy.

I especially like how he says that basically the guy started getting some strong fetishes from hentai and it's consequences.

First of all why did he amass strong fetishes? This is from a pshycological point of view; but when a person gets bomarded with the same thing over and over it gets stale - this is how people develop a lot of fetishes (as opposed to naturally having them). An example of this would be never liking feet, but getting into a foot fetish (which is also another topic, but I might as well say this here - being into lolis, being a lolicon, over time might turn you into an actual pedophile, but this is a different disscussion). Over time something which seemed hardcore/great becomes mild, and so we must find something more stimulating - that is the human nature. Also not getting sex from his partner (in this case not getting the perverted fetishized sex from his girlfriend) - made him more inclined to be into strong weird hentai/porn fetishes (what is percieved to be sexual repression). We can see this on a lot of hentai sites - there are some really "strange" (as what "normal" people would percieve (normal people by our society standards)) hentai, and yet it's really popular. I'm not going to go into detail but things like futa, loli, scat, furry, etc, etc have big fanbases.

So anyway now that we know that he has these strong newly developed fetishes gotten from porn, hentai and -originally- from anime (I say this because addiction to anime caused a chain reaction), we can take a look at the consequences. This is still the middle of the video, hence the girlfriend is still with him. But now because he wants to experience the extreme, weird and perverted side of sexuality, he makes his girlfriend do that. That's why the lyrics say that he turned her into this and that she is ashamed and both of them became a wreck. An example of this (might not be the case) is when she vomits into his mouth - definitely a fetish, although for me it seemed like huge amounts of saliva, not vomit as some people say - fetish none-the-less. We can imagine which weird things he wanted her to do (and made her do). Pretty much everything depicted in hentai, he would have wanted to experiment with her, and since hentai is not reality - integrating that into reality broke her and made her leave him as she could not bare to continue participating in such activities.

Of course all of this is just my point of view.

That was my favorite -deep- part of the video which made me want to think about it. I also enjoyed how they portrayed his addiction eating away at him (in the form of those girls), among other things.

Exellent psychadelic animation. But for some reason, I didn't quite like it. Take away the fanservice and you have nothing. And I'm not fan of those stroboscopic cuts they used throughout the song.

At least there are several interpretations of this music video and some of them running very deep. But then again, I found previous two shorts better than this.

Ok it was deep so somewhere I read this..... This is about a guy who seems to be fighting a heavy addiction to porn. In the beginning it looks like he's having a good time, but then it takes a drastic turn into something a bit more dark. They go from cute and happy looking to malicious and violent, hooking him in deeper and deeper. At that point it feels so real that they literally come alive out of his device and, what seems like, drug him.
At this point he's flashing through photographs of his addiction that then change into the real pictures of him and his girlfriend. His addiction even brings him to the point where he turns his back on his crying girlfriend. His addiction is so strong it's literally eating him alive but eventually his memory of his girlfriend overcomes what he's going through and he chooses to fight his problems.
Even though he appears to be trying really hard to fight it, in the end he still loses to his addiction and wakes up from his psychedelic trip.

So much eye candy, one of the most trippiest videos I've seen.
The underlying message of a heavily addicted "otaku", how he's so consumed by it, then trying to fight it (her).

And there we go.

What was that music? Synthesized? EDM? Whatever it was, this was a trippy music video if I've ever seen one, though it reminds me of Mind Game in some ways. Sexuality was explored here, but it wasn't done for titillation, at least that's what I assume. It was off putting, disturbing, and for the MC, done seemingly to accentuate his sense of guilt for breaking up or losing his apparent past girlfriend. To do so, there were crazy jumps through multiple genres and styles, and that's not to mention the jumbled imagery in between.

Let's see...Hibiki Yoshizaki was the director this time, who was also the designer for Eva 3.0, which explains the Eva cameos I suppose. The artists who did the music also did the stuff for Panty and Stocking, which makes so much sense. Actually, now that I think about it, ME!ME!ME! could be interpreted as a Panty and Stocking that's somehow less subtle.

Honestly, with all the talk that was going on a while back, I was certainly expecting something crazy, and I got that. So yeah, how 'bout that.

I interpreted this as a guy who used a girl that was in love with him for her body (maybe even more than one) and didnt realise she was the best thing he ever had. He broke her heart and abandoned her and now the thought of losing her and every thing he did is coming back to haunt him, driving him insane.
