What reason could I possibly have other than entertainment?

If I'm looking for education I could just read a book or pay attention at uni

In the first place, for entertainment. If I also find other things like philosophical content or the likes, that's up on me.

Ironically? How does one watch ironically? I may incorporate this idea into a revised version of this poll...

The atmosphere and the art.
It's what puts anime above regular TV shows.

A series that makes you question why anyone would give people with no ideas complete creative control over the production of an anime.

That's pretty funny, considering that one of Ergo Proxy's main problems is exploring too many themes, but never going in-depth into any of them.

You should.
Treat that anime as you would an Hidetaka Miyazaki game. You're gonna have to fill a whole lot of blanks yourself, and things aren't always going to make perfect sense...

None of the options for me
anime just has this crazy variety in genres and ideas, most of western tv shows are usually so formulaic, and movies also adhere so much to market friendly formulas
if I want to see some really out there stuff anime is the best medium

Entertainment! The same reason anybody watches TV. The only thing with anime is that they have animation styles I find more preferable than Western cartoons, and with generally deeper and more mature stories, with also the plus side of no actors so the characters are less cringey.

Entertainment. Anime is a medium that drags me in more than any other medium out there. I have no interest in movies or anything and am happy dedicating my time to watching more anime.

People tell me "I'm missing out on good movies", but that's just them projecting their love for those movies onto me. All in all, I'll be with anime a while yet.

I didn't see anything like "pantsu" or "imouto" or "fanservice" or "loli" as an option, but I did see "philosophical content" and thought it was close enough to those things, so I went with that

There are edgy man child think they are smart and has good taste because they like anime that apparently has social message, morality even though they might over analyze. Anime isn't so philosophical. In today modern age, philosophy is so yesterday. Gone are the day of Aristotle and Plato.
ZapredonMay 31, 2017 2:38 AM
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

I have about 250 completed anime so the answer will ofc be 'it depends which anime im watching' but if I were to choose the most prevalent reason then its probably the fights, explosions and laughs. Its also dictated by the fact that this is mostly of what this medium consists of so theres a much bigger pool to choose from than for example these 'artsy' or '2deep4u' shows.

I just like anime in general. I guess you could say i like its "none of these exist in real life" aspect. Is that escapism? i think it is. That's why i also prefer more non-realistic series in general.
But since i like anime cause its anime, i just made it my hobby and try to watch many series. Right now i just want to keep increasing my completed list.

I watch anime for a number of reasons. Entertainment for starters, but also there are many stories and ideas that only a medium like this one can pull off. Not only that, I watch for the more philosophical shows like Serial Experiments Lain, NGE and Ergo Proxy.

AAYYYYYY Delightful!

"The art" sounds a bit whatever but when put aside to cinema it's clearly the case. 10/10s might be some small scale Stendhal syndrome episodes.

Like most people, I mostly watch anime for entertainment purposes.
Though, sometimes it is also because I am someone who is pathetically weak towards real-life gore and can't stand watching it without feeling sick or somehow...distressed... (even though I do want to see such shows) so it makes me feel a bit better to know that, at the very least, I can watch the animated/drawn version of the gruesome things that I otherwise can't seem to psychologically handle.

Once we seize space, we'll all...

For none of those reasons.

I like stories (on whatever medium) and I learned that finding video stories in japanese animation was easier than to find them in other countries animations or TV series when watching TV.

I like this medium's form of story telling. The expressions of the characters, for example, can be so open and relate-able, and in my opinion more than live-action actors can do to portray the raw emotions of characters. Plus the deep, unique and plain weird content you can find no where else.
