Does the gender of your profile picture match up with your real gender?

My current one is just a cute Hima doodle I found while searching archives. I just think it's a cute drawing, ya know? (usually, it's just something that fits my current aesthetic though. :p) |

| What gender is my profile picture? This is akin to asking why one makes characters of the opposite gender in video games, and the answer is almost always eye candy. However in the context of degenerates on MAL, it is because anime girls are too kawaii that they want to be them. |

| I use whatever photo can be used as a set, and because I like the art or character. I switch up the gender of the character whenever because it's the art that I like. Some of my sets come from OCs some artists drew. |

| When I choose a picture, the aesthetic aspect ist the most important thing, so it doesn't have to be one of my favorite characters, for example. As things are right now, I like both of the characters I use very much (and they are indeed characters that I would put on a "favorite characters" list). I have a male character as my forum avatar, and a female character as my profile picture. That's the way I've had it for most of my time on this site. Since we're talking about the profile picture, no it doesn't match up with my gender. I decided before that I'd like to have a male character in particular as my forum avatar, since I am also male. I am happy with the decision since I think it makes my avatar a bit more memorable. And that is because most people, whether male or female, do use female characters as their avatars after all. Or at least that is the impression I've gotten. A lot of the avatars I use on other sites are pictures of female characters from manga or anime. One reason for this is that I want to give off the impression that I am a "weeb", and most weebs choose such pictures. In other words, it is an influence coming from other people. It's also because I want to sort of communicate one of my interests, which is of course reading manga. When I was a bit younger, I didn't have as much influence from other people. My avatars could be very random, and when I chose a manga avatar, it would often be a male character. Like Gecko Moria for example, he has been my favorite One Piece character for a very long time. Or Yamamoto from Bleach. |
