I think that it is very good tendency. LGBT also needs recognition and attention despite all the hateness and prejudice towards it.

Some of these are not really lgbt anime... but this is still slightly concerning.

Anime has always for the most part stayed clean and traditional, with queer anime being a very small genre, it absolutely must not become a mainstream thing, as that would be a huge betrayal to all its fans. Back in the early 2000s (best era for anime) we didnt have to deal with this shit.

I am hoping the medium of anime will always continue to be steadfast in their ideals, to not bend over for the west, no progressive bullshit. We cannot allow the most beautiful thing to ever exist on this planet (anime) to be defiled and ruined... all for what? for the 1% of the population that isnt straight? Fuck no.

also, @Weeaboo_Bomber that is hella based. Might get in trouble for speaking the truth though

No dudes making out though. That's gross stuff that should've never existed outside of bad porn.

The quality of anime has dropped since it went mainstream, but it looks like it's totally doomed now. Good thing I mostly watch old anime ^_^

@Memore
Almost all gay/lesbian/asexual/furry(?) examples OP lists are made up and have nothing to do with the anime.
Maybe prejudice wouldn't be as bad without threads like these where someone is playing make-believe and shoehorns in some representation to worship the "LGBT". It feels very disrespectful to the anime and to the characters.

Hibike! Euphonium lesbians ? It's highschool music anime. Yuru camp ? It's camping, 0 lesbians. Slime ? MC is asexual, thats not lgbt. Re:Monster ? GOBLIN, not furry. One Room Hiatari Futsuu Tenshi-tsuki. ? Looks like harem with male mc. Girls Band Cry ? How do you know there are lesbians ?

How do I feel with that ? I feel nothing but the fact you tries to push some kind of political agenda based on lies (since those 6 titles does not seem lgbt - maybe more titles are not lgbt either) feels weird.

LGBT content has been in anime for decades, long before Western content had any of it. Nothing at all wrong with more LGBT content, but most of these are not LGBT, especially not the furry stuff.

Yuri yaoi were always popular in Japan. How is this new? Japan has there own biases but Yuri and yaoi aren't seen as taboo as western countries because they don't possess a Christian majority.

Everyone likes boobs.
Only chicks and gays like weiner.

After enough thinking, I ask:

  1. Is the story interesting?
  2. Do the story characters or at least the main characters seem to be charismatic and sympathetic? Are they?
  3. Is the anime movie or series at least decently, well or very well produced?

This would probably be a fun season if that was true, even if just for the novelty, but the 3 we're really getting is already well above the average number. I wonder if it's just a weird coincidence, or if it'll actually become a trend for a while.

@Memore I certainly do as well, double standards all the way. I don't hate anyone more than the other, but really don't care about watching guys on guys. It's my time and I want to spend it on something cuter, so girl on girl is all I care. Ain't got no time to watch BL just cause it's hypocrisy to not defend 100% of the LGBT community.

Then again, I sure ain't gonna be stupid to the point of bitching about people that DO like BL, good for them that they have their tastes fulfilled, we all happy, everything fine. I won't be wasting my time going against it as if the world is crumbling cause gay boys ayy...

I'll just watch yuri and be happy and let people watch hetero and be happy or BL and be happy or none of those and be happy, and laugh hard at the people that bitch hard on forums. It's better comedy than several anime tagged as such to be honest.

@animegamer245 Would it tho? Crystal aired a while ago, tho granted it might have been before the whole "woke" thing exploded but I don't think it got that treatment.

Anime has been like this since how many decades (like you pointed out), and only now are people starting to bitch. Maybe they should have just done their research instead of taking their keyboards to the toilet and posted the comment instead of flushing it.

@Nemo_Niemand The author of Kuroshitsuji has only drawn yaoi in her career so it is easy to assume that Kuroshitsuji was also designed to be yaoi, considering that it has an all-male cast of protagonists and follows the rules of yaoi. Yuru camp even has "yuri" in the name and the cast is all female. For slime, the protagonist himself says that he is asexual in season 1.
@Dije Yuru, not Yuri. Also, not everything has to be romantic. Do you literally think that all-female anime casts are yuri by default? You also mentioned 3-4 all-male shonens as gay, are you sure about that?

Rimuru never said he was asexual. He created an androgynous body because he's not worried about romance at the moment.

@delirific It's just that OP seems to have decided that all anime is romance and has labeled everything that isn't romcom as LGBTQ. For example, they directly write that Yuru Camp and Hibike are yuri because of the all-female cast.

@animegamer245 If you think that being anti-woke means that any gay content is woke, even where no one would even raise an eyebrow at it, then you have a rather specific understanding of the culture war. This was to assume that any yuri or BL are woke, which no one ever said.

To be fair most anime has some sort of straight romcom element in it nowadays and the lgbters will homo-ship anybody that talks to the same gender nowadays too.
So why not just include every anime in both

At first I thought this was really bad bait since like half of those anime the OP listed aren't even tagged with bl/gl but fall under the vague umbrella of "bunch of girls/guys hanging around and/or shojo-like anime that girls tend to enjoy" that can mean anything.

You're missing a few.

  • Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Geiko-hen is gay because there aren't many women and Inosuke looks quite feminine. Definitely BL.
  • Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 2 is gay. Rudeus was attracted to Sylphie when he thought she was a guy.
  • Boku no Hero Academia 7th Season is gay and lesbian. Toga is attracted to Uraraka, and don't forget Mineta's infamous confession to Deku last season.
  • Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf is furry.
  • Kaijuu 8-gou is furry. Guy turns into a monster? Enough said.
  • Bartender: Kami no Glass is gay. Bartending is a famously gay profession.
  • Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou II Part 2 is lesbian. Anos' "harem" is mostly women, and statistically at least one of them is going to be into girls.
  • Sentai Daishikkaku is gay. The main character is called Sentouin D, and we all know what D means, right?
  • Unnamed Memory is gay. The main character has a curse that kills any woman he takes as a wife... but it doesn't say anything about husbands. Hmmm, suspicious.

Why is this still going and why are people agreeing on this when most of the 16 examples are extremely far fetched and are just shipping characters into a gay relationship? (not even counting the "furry" one)
The next spring season is not special in any way, Fall 2023 was already much more gay than what's listed here. Also looking back 20 years (for example Fall 2004), there has always been a lot of gay stuff in anime.

The comparison between straight romcoms and "LGBT anime" doesn't make any sense since there isn't any non-straight ROMANCE in most of the anime listed. If you want to count all shows with "LGBT" characters regardless of romance, you'd have to compare this to ALL other anime unless you want to push some weird narative with it:
Dije said:

it's not.

Only having gay and asexual characters (though I don't see Rimuru as asexual since he's clearly been sexually atracted to women in his early days as a slime) isn't actually representation for the modern LGBTQIA+ anyway, it's mostly just lesbian/gay/bi which isn't anything revolutionary for Japanese media.
There have always been a lot of characters in anime that can be interpreted as bisexual/gay, that's not a new trend.

Why do people have to stick the label "LGBT" on everything? I always feel like putting everyone who is not straight into one big "this person is not normal" category does the exact opposite of normalizing them (At least for sexualities that were already fairly normalized before this term was invented).
Can't we just call it "gay" and "asexual" (or yaoi/yuri since we're talking about anime) so that everyone knows what we're talking about instead of treating it like some cult?
(edit: "LGBT" is just super unspecific, with enough imagination you can call anyone part of the LGBT)

Just check through the list of anime and count how many of them are actually "LGBT" and then compare it to other seasons using the same standard for "LGBT anime". This is pretty normal for anime.

I just watch anime that interest me. Idc about the gender if the anime have romance tag. As long it's not a weird story.
@Mishiia

This is how I view it, I watch what is enjoyable, I rare base that upon the orientation of the characters, so long as the characters are interesting I don't care, the only time I do care is when the sole defining personality trait is their gender preference at which point in instantly lose interest as this is poor character design.

Let's have a look..

Hibike! Euphonium 3.. Queerbaiting ≠ LGBT theme.. It's a marketing technique that baits queer people and straight allies without actually delivering on the queer content.. The Japanese animation industry is notorious for this..
Yuru Camp△ Season 3.. Just because a bunch of girls are [insert activity here] together, doesn't mean they're lesbians..
One Room Hiatari Futsuu Tenshi-tsuki.. This is a harem anime..
Girls Band Cry.. Please refer to my comment on Yuru Camp..

Vampire Dormitory.. This is straight people romance..
Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai.. Maybe someone who's read the manga/novel can clear this up.. From the synopsis I'm assuming something sordid..
Boukyaku Battery.. I actually watched the pilot a while back and.. The blond lead was just painfully straight.. I'm not planning on watching the upcoming series, twenty minutes of him was annoying enough..
Wind Breaker.. This is a delinquents themed show..
Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen.. I know where you're going with this, but no..
Sentai Daishikkaku.. Maybe you know something we don't..?

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 3rd Season.. This is a show about a slime..

Furry.. The furry community is not a sexual/gender minority group, it's a subculture that organizes around a particular fandom.. Hope that clears things up..
