Don't sweat it! I take my time with replies too.

Otokojuku has only just recently come to my attention, and I'm thinking I'll have to start it sooner rather than later with that further recommendation. Everything I've seen looks both hilarious and genuinely good, although I've only really seen brief clips of the anime. But that art style is downright iconic. Only originally knowing about it through J-Stars Victory VS gameplay, I still recognized it almost immediately.

Slam Dunk's something I should eventually get around to watching. I've only heard praise for both the anime and manga. Haven't heard of Moeru Onisan before your mention of it, but that cover image alone does make me think it's probably pretty funny. Thanks much for the recs!

Escaflowne is the first time in a good while that a real robot (would you agree this is a real robot series?) anime has captured my attention from the very start. Similarly to Gundam 0079, the world building is so immense that I was fully invested before even getting ten episodes deep. The mecha action and mechanical animation are also definitely amazing. The anime carries such a distinct aesthetic, and the robots are clearly some of the best examples of this! Every time the guymelefs start moving, the tone takes a subtle shift in that direction only a good mecha anime can. An amazing blend of the genres.

I saw that! It's interesting looking back to see how long it's taken to get the full series translated (minus subbed Nisei) and realizing how relatively spoiled we've become. Both Hokuto no Gun and Saiko no Fansub deserve major props for the work they've done. And I honestly figured they already translated all the movies, so I can't imagine it'll take them too much longer. I really should hop back on the anime soon. Would love to see how good the Ultimate Chojin Tag arc is animated.

On that note, and maybe not that far off from something like Saber Marionette J, what're some comedic battle shonen in the vein of Kinnikuman you'd recommend? You can peep my lists to get a better idea of what I'm already aware of. I'll hear out your rec even if it doesn't necessarily fit that mold.

Seeing as you just finished it last month, what're your thoughts on Saber Marionette J? I've heard mostly good in passing, but I don't actually know anything outside of the fact I like the art style.

Right, I imagine they're easier to get through since they're fairy tales. Would be good practice too. I've been adding untranslated entries to a stack, as I thought it might help somewhat. I'll add anything you can think of that's untranslated.

That's alright. Right, they're geared toward a young audience, so it's silly for me to expect Sandman over others, as that one is rather creepy. I don't remember liking any Hoffman stories other than that one. Are you trying the subbed ones? And if I recall correctly, I think you also have been studying Japanese.
Gsarthotegga Apr 17, 7:30 PM
Oh, your mention of Sekai Meisaku Douwa is interesting. I'm guessing for Hoffman it's his Sandman story. Would be nice to see more of it translated.

Very cool. I don't think you'd need to know exactly what the characters are saying to get the story. You can just look up the originals yourself and read them and from that just follow the plot visually.

I wonder if they still do adaptations of European literature. Can't say I've seen any in the past 10 years.

Looks like I would have watched Wanwan Sanjuushi when I was a kid when I didn't know these were anime. In Bulgaria we apparently called it "One for all, all for One" (Един за всички, всички за един), the famous phrase.

Oh, yes! It's good sometimes to just relax, turn your brain off and simply enjoy a cool show with lots of flashy action. :D

Sorry for a late response, but I wanted to finish that anime first. After completing it, I can say it gave exactly what I expected to see. To mention a few of things that were among my expectations: crazy gore, good looking character designs, lots of action, hardcore and supernatural fighting techniques, and simple, yet entertaining plot combining ninja and sci-fi elements. It was all there. It's maybe not the best anime I've ever seen, but I enjoyed watching it.

You're right, that kind of simple, creative anime, with such elements I mentioned eaerlier, are songs of the past, sadly. Or at least are very rare sights. As some people say: "they don't make that kind of shows these days", heh.

Don't worry about the club invitation, haha. I check my own section of personal club invitations once in a blue moon, so I was wondering if perhaps you were similar to me in frequency of checking those invites. ;D Thank you for accepting it. Welcome to the Saint Seiya Club! :)

About Zeus Arc, indeed. New Saint Seiya manga project, following the final chapter of Next Dimension, will be announced soon, according to one news from Kurumada Productions website (source: https://kurumadapro.com/column/article_131.html). Fingers crossed tightly for it to be Zeus Arc. :D

Haha, yeah, the aesthetics are one of two elements that made me interested in this show in the first place. The other one is mixing magic, sci-fi and ninja themes, and using them as a base for a story full of action and gore.

After finishing the first episode, I must admit I liked it. Not the best anime I've ever seen, but once, like you said, you turn your brain off and just enjoy the action, it's a really cool show. But it was just the first episode out of 6. I bet this anime gets even better later on. :D

Btw. Would you like to join Saint Seiya Club? I sent you an invitation some time ago. If you don't want to then it's perfectly fine. I just don't know if you saw the invitation itself. I very rarely check my own list of club invitations, so I can imagine that there might be other people who do the same thing, haha.

Oh my, I heard about this series long ago, but at some point forgot about it. I need to watch it at last. Thanks for reminding me about it. :D
