God, this was so SO GOOD that i can't actually believe what I just watched.

The story was not the most innovative thing ever but when put together with the characters, the music and the animation it made such a ride, a ride that I will not forget so soon.

MY DRILL IS THE DRILL THAT WILL EXTINGUISH ALL THE FLAMES!!!

Great movie, some beautiful animation and nice background songs even though the story was kinda okay the amount of action and eyecatching moments is what really made this fun to watch

Trigger always carried the hearth of the original Gainax and they sure showed it even more so in this movie! From the amazing and unique artstyle, color pallet, and even to the small points for the story's plot and the true references to the OG like the 'Gainax Stance', the drill, universe size robots and so much more!

The great combination of cgi and this artstyle also really made it great and unique.

It sure has been a long time since I've seen such a great anime movie I must say!

Really enjoyed watching it and the OG references to old Gainax always puts a smile on my face!

I can't believe the crazy shit they pulled off with 3D animation. I can't wait for people who decry 3D animation to see this and fall in love, so that they realize the error of their ways. As evidenced here, 3D animation is not a crutch, and it does not have to look cheap. It is a perfectly valid artistic tool that was used to build the entire gorgeous aesthetic of this movie.

Moments that got me the most hype:

  • Galo's first launch sequence/tranformation sequence
  • Dragon Lio wrecking the city
  • DEUS EX MACHNA
  • Emergency medical rescue in the engine room
  • Every time Galo & Lio's mech transformed/manifested some new weapon

The god Imaishi has blessed us yet again.

The 3D is good when u do in the correct situations and in promare they only have use it int the correct situations, and not int basicly everything.
I personaly think that 2D should be used in the most cases with 3D done in certain moments, and in this way i accept the use of 3D ( there are things that 2D cant do and there are things 3D cant do).

Firstly, Lio and Galo are cute as hell together (It's not the kiss itself the sparks all this speculation, but what Galo says after it that REALLY sells it). Trigger really is a wild card.

Overall: A fun animation spectacle that is just a blast to watch. The story isn't anything revolutionary or cathartic, but its a simple, bombastic action trip with fucking amazing visuals and music! Love the main cast too and would like to see some expansion on them if possible?

This movie radiates so much hype and energy that it is impossible not to love. Almost two hours of pure awesomeness and so many memorable moments. DEUS EX MACHINA lol.
Animation and cubist, minimalist style was orgasmic as well.

Great movie that I will certainly revisit many times in the future. Also gave me lots of tracks for my workout playlist, thanks Sawano.

That was a very nice and fun movie. Just pure anime fun, i liked the little homages they payed to their previous works here and there, however I do have some gripes with the movie, like how every character unnecessarily screamed every line, the exposition and the overuse of soundtrack. I mean I get it they love that Sawano soundtrack but damn sometimes I think they had to scream their lines just so we can hear them over the fucking soundtrack that was blasting in the soundtrack 90% of the time. Anyway 8/10 feels pretty fair for this, could have indeed benefited from a full cour format.

Trigger and Hiroyuki Sawano, 2 masterpieces. This is literally the Deus Ex Machina of what we love about Studio Trigger and its outlandish out-of-this-world insane sasuga animation. This is a movie definitely made for the big screen.

Galo is such a cool character, definitely inspired from Kamina, and others pay homage to TTGL. And while the story itself doesn't crunch (sounds simple enough), the full-on action compensates for the enjoyment tenfold.

One of the best films of the last decade, and Promare hit it out of the park. 2 hours worth of amazement, enjoyed every minute of it. The 3DCG effect is so damn good and satisfying, knowing it done by Sanzigen is reassuring enough.

Sasuga once again, Trigger. The renaissance of the studio lies in this movie.

It's by studio Trigger... Nuff said! (Also it is Studio Trigger, I expected the alien/space/mech stuff already)

The art style is the most noticeable aspect here, vibrant colours of near-blinding intensity, painting the scenes of frantic, rapid actions of varying magnitude, with some fire OST playing int he background, let your soul burn and burn everything with your intense excitement and hype over this one hella fucking amazing movie!!!!!

The story is surprisingly solid, all the plot that has been going on are seriously major and the way it's resolved at the end using Yaoi power was nothing short of satisfying. After the heart-quenching, brain-numbing exhilaration that I experienced throughout the movie, it's a nice fitting ending. Although ofc, not the most satisfying or even best ending possible, it's all good! Being a movie, characters are not really that much of a concern, although I love the development occurring around Galo and Lio, and all the revelations, etc etc etc...

Well!!! It's time to listen to all the absolute fire of an OST over-and-over-again!!!!!!!!!

Holy fudge, this was just too bloody hype, 110 minutes of pure insanity and mindless fun! Studio Trigger delivers in full throttle yet again! Just about beats the likes of Violet Evergarden Gaiden and Tenki no Ko for Best Movie of 2019 for me.

My only regret is that I couldn't watch this on theaters. Darn it, why didn't they show this here, I bet this could've sold crazy bucks just like in Japan and North America too! I was totally shell shocked watching from my laptop alone, can't imagine how I'd end up otherwise though for that matter xD.

More on this - A visual masterpiece through and through! Camera angles, action choreography, artsyle aesthetics, character designs, 3D CGI, some glorious 2D and of course creative poses, you name it! Just .. long live Kanada School Animation! Being the Trigger fanboy that I'm, I honestly can't wait to see what they'll bring out next. Of course, expecting something of this quality would be raising the stakes too high so I'll try to be a bit more reasonable on that note, lol. In a few frames, there was a lot going on and it was hard to keep up at times, but that's literally all for the nitpicks in this department.

Another department that this show absolutely rocked was the Soundtrack! Sawano Hiroyuki is the GOAT and here's another prime example as to why, 'nuff said. It's hard to put into words but action scenes, in particular, with his music are just phenomenally phenomenal and I'm very grateful that he was a part of this project. A shout out to mpi, Benjamin, Laco and Gemie for their amazing roles too, it's no exaggeration to say that the Sound Department was almost just as top-tier as the Animation itself imo. Lol, the Sound Director literally played ost after ost (like up tp 4-5, if I'm not wrong) at the start, well done!

A lot of missed potential for the side-characters and quite obviously so, if I do say so myself. But no helping that with a movie-length, a tv series wouldn't resound as much however, so a real pity indeed. Galo and Lio's duo was fascinating to keep up with though, a big plus certainly. Foresight Kray, I could tell something was off with him from the very start and quite rightly so. Even the fact that he's a Burnish was quite predictable but he was an interesting villain nonetheless. I'm glad they tried to give him as much screentime as possible though, even going as far as to covering the truth behind Galo's rescue.

Sweet little teaser for Galo x Aina midway which really stood out to me as well, gah I wish we could've had a bit more on this too! And then there's of course the late Professor who, no doubt, just felt like a plot device more so than anything else. VA, overall, was really good too imo.

Now, on to the plot. Quite honestly, it was so-so at best. Strikingly similar to Enn Enn no Shouboutai in many ways indeed I've to say now that I've actually watched the movie, I'm not going to delve into the controversy now however so let's leave it at that. Explanations on the whole Burnish/Dimension and Warp Gates and etc. were pretty off the mark here and there, in all honesty. It was kind of like the story, as a whole, was changing gears and focusing on different aspects one too many times.

Overall, messy, incoherent and poor backstory with a questionable over-the-top finale but it was more dense and deep than I imagined it'd be so I'll give a plus for that at least. Why not a little after-credit scene though...

Damn, some very appreciable fan-service for TTGL fans amidst all this! Deus Ex Machina, oh hell yeah xD. They could have been a bit more subtle y'know, lol.

All in all, I'll be a little lenient and give this a solid 9/10! Incredible experience with a tinge of awesome nostalgia, at the end of the day after all.

Back after a week with a re-watch and bloody enjoyed the heck out of this yet again! Storyline is messy as always, Characters all over the place both bad and good-wise, Animation and Sound Department a Godsend but a heck of a ride overall, all things considered! Studio Tigger, you just rock!

A little shocked I didn't mention about the little shonen ai moment but even went on to put in the even minor Aina x Galo scene last week. I suppose that alone says a bit about my feeling towards that particular scene as a whole lol. I don't hate it by any means, just unfazed by it totally. Sad how they pretty much ruled out Aina x Galo in the process though, or so I imagine was the idea.

finally watched this fucking movie. Tons of fun, a rollercoaster of color, movement and action. Can't feel completely satisfied, tho, since it's obvious a bombastic experience MEANT for the big screen. Shame, but ok.

My only minor gripe with the movie is how they handled the main "villain". He was cool and stoic, and a great counter-part for Lio, since he was almost just as determined, but in a more cool, "icy" way. But by the final confrontation they just made him so fucking evil to the point i have a hard time believing a dude that wished the death of a little boy out of minor annoyance could actually have in his heart the best interest for humankind. This could've been so easily fixed by adding a line or 2 about how in the new world he'd be the unchallenged ruler or something dumb like that, but nah, he just actually wanted to save humanity? Laaame.

Still, super minor gripe on an otherwise perfectly fun, captivating film about 2 dudes being bros. Galo forgot the "no homo" at that last kiss, tho, uh.

Finally made it... and watched it..

First of all, i need to say the 2 things i loved the most...

FIRST: The Music, the Score and Sound Effects... Perfectly used in every moment, scene and detail.

SECOND: Neither Galo Neither Lio... LUCIA FEX!!, the Best Character in the movie.
#TeamLucia

Holy effects and visuals... this is almost a 10 of 10, but this time for me... ill give it a 9... why?

Cause for me, All the movies, need to make you get "That Feeling".. and with this movie, i felt it near many times, but never exploded inside me...

But beside that, everything else was amazingly great.

The visuals were amazing, everything else was meh.

Just a huge trigger love child, while not bad, it could have been better.
Tbh I actually cringed at a large majority of the dialogue, especially from off brand
Kamina.

The visuals were the best part of the movie, the cast does come in second, I do like Gaio, not nearly as much as something like Kamina, of course, but it was cool to have in as MC and seeing all those references to TTGL, Lio was cool too, once you got used to him.

My biggest problem with the movie was the plot, it was so fucking predictable, and I had major gripes with this for the first half, not to say you can't foresee the later half BUT, the pacing is so fast, there was not a dull moment, that while it becomes what you expect, it reaches there right during the middle of the movie, and then keeps going and going, and you can still predict some things, but by then you are already immersed and feeling the energy this movie outputs.

In the end, I m left satisfied and I felt they did well with the story, they used well the time they had and developed everything, just wanted to see an epilogue of shorts, which we didn't get.
The OST was fitting and I love Sawano, but I m hoping Trigger doesn't go with him for their next projects, he already is in a lot of different things, and while he does try to vary a bit, I don't want to have to listen to his kind of music exclusively for the most action-packed anime, I want to hear some new folks doing epic scores!

It was shit. They recycled plots from other Trigger IPs and threw them all into one. The characters stink and the voice acting was horrendous. Literally a cash grab

Awesome sound design and animation though you could tell they used thousands of frames though the fights were overwhelming and too much was going on sometimes. Really stupid ending as well. At least they had some awareness of how shitty it was naming the robot deus ex machina.

At theaters, this movie must have been such an awesome visual spectacle… not gonna lie, I’m a bit jealous of those who had the chance to watch it in huge screen.

Honestly, this was such a good experience, a total blast to watch in terms of entertainment. Animation was superb, as expected from Trigger and Sawano’s music was simply glorious as well. And the way how both aspects were used during those insane action sequences was just spectacular.

Now things being said, the plot itself wasn't something revolutionary. It was really Trigger-like actually, with some ridiculous twists added here and there but other than that, I wouldn't really consider it as something bad... just uninspiring.

Regarding cast, Galo as the MC was fine though very stereotypical and for that reason, I enjoyed watching Lio's scenes way more in the end.
As for the others, the rest of the Rescue Team (Captain included) were pretty irrelevant in almost every aspect and Kray as the antagonist, could have been better written.

8/10 – At first I thought of a 7/10 since the narrative and villain weren't that remarkable but honestly, I can’t deny just how visually entertaining this movie was and how much I enjoyed watching it. And since I mostly rate series/movies based on enjoyment... well...

This is the most trigger thing trigger could have done. Trigger characters, trigger plot, trigger dialogues, trigger animations, trigger references. I can't say all those things are good, but I'm glad they exist. They prove that trigger remains one of very few studios that still has a soul in the work they produce.

It's dumb and pointless, but I can't help but smile while watching it. 9/10

well firstly I don't really see where the "BL" vibes come from, apart from that CPR bit. If anything the only shipping bit was that part with Galo and Aina in the lake

Animation wise this movie was great, some parts were a bit choppy but overall it was well done. Really was digging the colourful/vibrant colour pallet, gave things a more innocent look if that makes sense.

OST was pretty good as well, except I don't think I've seen any show with that many insert songs before.

Story wise........not really all that great. It pretty much is classic Trigger, and pretty much exactly like Darling in the Franxx, where it started off interesting (I really liked the racism/justice themes being presented) but then just shoved plot twists and to some extent asspulls out of nowhere.

Character wise was a mixed bag as well. I loved the MC, but that's pretty much the only memorable one. Kray was kinda disappointing, he started off as a great dual nature villain, but then quickly did a lot of things that were just "bad guy because he's bad" type of thing which kinda diminished him. I also kinda hoped Aina's sis wouldn't get away so easily because even though she didn't know of the true nature, she was still heavily experimenting/torturing with the Burnish just for her obsession for her sister.

Overall 7/10, really a 6/10 but the art style kinda gave things a positive vibe which I really liked about it

Okay I may be subjective as a biased hard fan of TTGL, but God oh God was I not prepared for this, my body is FULLY awake wanting to throw punches all over, my soul is burning, and it's 2:30 AM a week night.

The way it escalates and snowballs, especially from the moment Deus Ex Machina is revealed, as some have already said here, it heats your blood and pumps your heart savagely.

So much TTGL references ; Galo, the small mouse, the mechas, Deus Ex Machina combi, the way Galo can't fight without beeing psyched up by appearance and dumb meanings, big mecha fight finishing in human-to-human standoff , a literal drill and space-growing final forms. And I'm surely missing more in my head right now.

They hooked me up since the first fight against the Mad Burnish, and they never let me go.
They knew what they were doing, and it worked for me.

How can I go to bed now ?

I really liked the film especially the fantastic animation with all the eye catching colors to set every mood but the only thing that I think that failed on this film was the pacing I really think that it would have had much more potential if it was a series instead of being a film.
Because I feel like the pacing was a little too rushed for it to include all the details the story wanted to tell i really would have want to dive much more on each character and understand better every backstory and all the points of view and struggles between the burnish and the rescue team through out time but other than that I love the concept of the story and animation and since it's really hard to make a film with so much to work on I give it a pass so yeah I hope to see more stuff like this. ✌️

Just saw the movie. I feel anyone saying the CG was bad in this film doesnt seem to understand why you would use CG/3D. The main purpose of said tools is to allow you the ability to move the camera in a 3D Space fluidly and beautifully. This film managed to have so many tracking camera shots that just blew my mind. It was like Houseki no Kuni on fucking crack man. Anyhow certainly a great film and while its not a super amazing critical darling it certainly is very enjoyable.

And Trigger was clearly self aware of the ass-pulls as they literally named the random robot Deus Ex Machina. Gave me some lols. The characters were fun and vibrant. Overall a really solid movie!

finally sat down and watched this amid the lockdown and lack of new shows so it was the perfect time

gonna keep this short the visual tech trigger managed to pull off here with the 3D was so well done it needs its praise it's so rare for 3D to get done right in anime and you can tell they put a lot into what makes a trigger work trigger and their stylistic artstyle with such bright mixes of colours and almost 80s synthwave at times made this a blast to watch of almost 2hours of fun.

this in the end really felt like a love child to their past works mainly TTGL so

9/10 for art and animation
8/10 for music as a big sawano fan it didn't help i was already listening to Λsʜᴇs ~RETURNS weeks before this without knowing it was one of the main tracks and normally when you get Sawano inserts for your work its normally like one hype ass track this time we had 3 that got used quick a bit due to how much action so it lost some of it's charm over the film but still manage to get hype.

6/10 plot and character, fairly predicable plot from the moment the Mads got captured but the motive's of everyone was made clear and while it did have some serious notes trigger managed to make it over the top in their usual fashion it didn't get too grim ,and characters were pretty one note and could've used more time to flesh them out.

riding on a 7.5-8 on this one this was the most trigger ass trigger thing i've seen them do which i guess i'm glad i can still say that to say at the least lol

I definitely had a lot of fun with this movie. The animation looked incredible and the amazing sound track only enhanced the experiece.

Kray was actually an understandable villain even if they tried way too hard to make him a hateable character towards the end.

Galo and Leo were a badass duo. I especially loved Galo burning fire fighter spirit!

Absolutely incredible show! With full of color CG animation making all of the art synchronise in an amazing way. A little complain with the story building, tho, since there is some plot-hole come to my mind. Afterall, i must say, thats just how the fantasy world work-out on this show, even if you are aware with some logical failure or unrelated with sciencetific. No bad guy here, that was good for my review. Happy ending to the world? Yes, we got that, ofc!

At all of the series only need three things to explain the whole thing:
- Amazing animations, somehow the way they animated really look like America-hollywood typical animations and comical style. Idk, thats just my only thoughtful.
- Amazing art, colorful background, and full of nice soundtracks. Really suit my preferences for this great show
- Amazing story. This is my last and general contributions for my judgemental. Since, i really like the story from the very first, no bad guy, happy ending, related story development til the end, all of them really perfect to me

With all of that, depending what happen, ignoring any other opinion, besiding other criticism, i put this show at my 10/10 masterpiece show of listings. No joke, no bad provoke.

This was quite enjoyable. The English voice cast did a great job, and there was never a dull moment.

Lio Fotia was as sexy as I imagined he'd be. :P

Just what I expected from Trigger, gorgeous animation and colours accompanied with an entirely bland everything else.

Is it just me or is the audio mixing absolutely horrendous in this? Found myself fiddling with volume the entire film. While it's thrilling to look at (especially the second half) it is far from an enjoyable movie.
