We need a new season! Some of the episodes were done well at least, some left out key points to the plot and let there be some holes. But I love Junji Ito's works so I'm happy either way.

I hate Souchi. It's the only character in Ito's stories that i dislike.

This anime was bad. The art was NOWHERE near as good as the manga and a lot of things were lost in this adaptation even if the episode didn't cut anything.

I new from the get go that the anime wouldn't be as good as the manga so i just watched it for what it was so i could enjoy it, but it's undeniable that it could be waaaaaaaaay better.

I agree with what this guy says.

Those who like some stories i recommend reading the manga. It's 100% better.

I'm very happy that they brought the Soichi Story to an end in the anime. And it was very entertaining.

The funniest scene was when Souchi said "yaba, kiba"

But the whole Anime itself was a big let down.
They took a lot of good Storys but they animated them very poorly.
We all know they just animated his Storys because they wanted us to read the Manga.

I was so happy when I saw Souichi one again. He's probably the best character Junji Ito ever created.

Wholly inconsistent show. And they ended with Souchi. Bleh.

I haven't read any of Ito Junji's works, and I'm sure he's a great storyteller, but these adaptations clearly don't do his stories any justice. Especially Gyo!

What sucks is that there are very few good horror anime out there, so when you take one of the best horror storytellers in Japan, you'd think we'd finally get something good. But no. It's too bad. And they should just stop adapting his works. They'd probably fuck up Uzumaki too.

I thought they might end this with Rumours. I'd have preferred Mystery of the Haunted House, but this is good too. Didn't beat out the manga, but I don't think anyone really expected it to. A pretty decent adaptation in its own rights still though.

Isnt Souchi pretty powerfful too? shouldnt he be able to stop her? But yeah, every Souchi's attempt at anything turns on its head in the end :(

I would suggest you read story #4 of Ito's Yami no Koe (Voices in the Dark). You might like it.

Having read Junji Ito's manga before, I can say that this series utterly fails to capture his style and atmosphere. When there are supposed to be beautiful, detailed stills than can instill fear by themselves, there are poorly drawn imitations. Also, there is a lack of use of a good soundtrack to establish that sense of dread. This show tries, but fails miserably. It's an insult to Ito's work like Berserk 2016/17 was an insult to Miura's manga. At least the VAs aren't all that bad, but that's the one good thing I can say about this.

It's that ugly fashion model again and she's bigger than ever. Souichi's plans keep backfiring on him.

The manga were definitely a lot better than the adaptation and I hope they'll improve on that. It didn't decrease my enjoyment for it but with the especially poor animation in some segments, a 7 would suffice I guess~

Overall, the works they chose to adapt into this collection was kind of disappointing. I actually started to like Souichi more. I hated that little fucker at first but he was pretty amusing afterwards, especially with Mitsuya Yuuji as his voice actor. It fits him perfectly.

I'm so glad they adapted the part where Souichi meets Fuuchi.

I hope if they make another Junji Ito it will include Uzumaki, The Enigma of Amigara Fault or Hellstar Remina. I would also love a Tomie series.

this is a bit of a guilty pleasure, its a bad adaptation and some of these stories could of been excellent if given to people that could of captured the tone and pacing better (town without streets was really butchered), but i was pretty entertained throughout it so im kind of cutting it some slack.

The first story ended up being unintentionally hilarious due to the lazy animation and portrayal of the story. The fact that they were like mosquitoes to the tree was pretty funny as well. However I still don't really understand how you would survive the tree's wrath.

Souichi's stories were pretty much the only enjoyment I got out of this series aside from making fun of the animation.

This show was just bad. A lot of the stories were rushed and were obviously missing information that made them more confusing than scary. Keep in mind I have only read a few of the stories adapted here, many of the others I was left to on my own. You should never have to go and read a manga to get information that the anime should be conveying. That's just a bad adaptation.

The animation and art was the worst offender. It was incredibly lazy and took away from the tone significantly. It was so distracting at points I could not get invested in the show.

The only thing I genuinely remember from this show is the opening song. Good visuals and catchy song, though I don't think it necessarily fits the tone the series is trying to convey (other than the visuals of course).

Overall, I'd give this show a 4/10. Definitely not worth the time invested.

It is true that the presentation has been very underwhelming compared to the source materials, however I feel that Junji Ito's works take a certain mindset to enjoy or even fear. Weird imagery stops being creepy after a while, just like Gintama's comedic sense which has remained the same over the years (even while it's still in good quality)

Stories became kind of dull after a while, and Souichi's stories are annoying to watch.

My opinion about this show:

Bad animation. Some funny moments. Some stories are bad, for example creepy-looking woman from Fashion Model other are good, for example the trypophobia from Shiver.

2/5 for the episode. 5/10 for the anime.

Why why why why why is there another Souichi episode.

I actually enjoyed this anime and I dont get the hate some people are giving it. I would like even more stories. To be honest what hurts it the most are these Souichi episodes.

You could try reading the manga, there are many stories that didn't appear in the anime.

If you only looking for manga tho, try:
- Yamishibai
- Gyo (it's from Junji Ito also)
- Ghost hunt (more towards supernatural, but the stories can be also creepy)

Smashed is another fun entertaining story from Itou which was well adapted.
The only issue I had was the chosen sound effect of their bodies being crushed by the tree's hand-like invisible branches.
The sound of their bodies going "pop" like a balloon getting popped doesn't make sense realistically in imagining a human body through skin and bones being crushed completely flat.

Regardless, aside from that slight disappointment, seeing the deaths and terror of the victims animated was great. 7/10.

I personally liked the original Rumors, but this adaption wasn't exactly as creepy as I imagined in its ending.
In hindsight with this anime, the function of the rumors from Souichi by spreading rumors from a distance with a low different voice is unrealistic, but it remains a funny method for Souichi to get attention.
The twist is fun in how the new rumors later coincidentally are true with the model Fuchi being present in the swamp, but that execution was a little underwhelming.
Aside from that, again, Souichi's voice is an awful choice for the character, but it was nice to see some of his stories adapted here. 6/10.

... Finally, my rating as a full review of the Junji Itou Collection anime adaptation, 8/10.
I'm disappointed in myself for being influenced to refrain from reading Junji Itou's works earlier by watching an incredibly harsh youtube video by Super Eyepatch Wolf.

While I can accept the critisicm of the anime not having the best art/animation to portray the same gorgeous sophisticated art of Itou, the anime itself is truly great as a faithful adaptation of the twenty-four chosen stories.
Even with its few faults, flaws, overall condensed adaptions, and mediocre animation, it is solid in portraying these stories with a great cast, and feel.

Many of the selected stories are some of Itou's best works, which was enjoyable to experience as an anime.
The art/animation in some scenes are lackluster and poor in quality in comparison to the original, but most of it is acceptable, even if the art is flat in tone.
It doesn't shine like the dynamic slick art of Itou, but the story remains, the soundtrack and atmosphere delivers, along with mostly consistent great acting from the voice cast.

A few interpretations are wrong, some animations are subpar to the original in art, the cut content is somewhat disappointing, but this adaption is very satisfying in bringing the manga to life in a more than adequate manner, because it could have been worse like the many rushed anime adaptions, but this anime was very faithful to the original.
Sure, the art/animation looks flat for not being slick and lazy with still-shots, out-of-sync lip flaps, uneven proportions of the characters and panels, awkward three-dimensional movement, and censored scenes, but it doesn't ruin the experience of the remaining great entertainment of Itou's horror.

Thus, to my shock, I'm now eager to watch the new anime with Studio Deen and the same director again, even if their animation unfortunately isn't slick. Contrary to how pessimistic and oblivious I was originally.
Animation like Uzumaki would be better, but this anime wasn't bad at all.

Overall it's not a good adaptation of course it was Studio Deen.
now i am afraid for the upcoming Junji Ito: Maniac 2023 on Netflix, because it's the same Studio with the same Director as well.

Creepy.. Beautiful lady? Lmao, my man has no time to sort his feelings out here because of the unexpected development.

Some of the segments feel like they’re part of a story but in general, it was very episodic and very hit or miss. Atmosphere brought about the greyish tint and eerie music here and there was one of the best and common element in the various settings, so props to that, but, at the same time, some of the episodes could have been elevated with better animation and facial details.

Just one segment of Tomie-san, I was thinking we’d see a lot more of her but Soichi kind of felt like the loose protagonist instead. OVA has her image in the key visual so I’m guessing that’ll be more on her so looking forward to that, ig.

My fav segment was the one with the afterimages, that really impressed me. Others, not really. Oh, and the ED was fantastic too, typical Japanese indie but that’s right up my alley.

4/10.

Animation couldA been far more detailed, especially when zooming in on the horror plot devices or characters. I oikemthe overall idea, but without sticking to a single story for enough time, this whole thing was a mess and often not scary at all. Still, there were some original horror themes , which is rare and refreshing at least. Onto the OVAs lol 5.5/10

There was some odd production issues with this show in general. Bland cinematography, bare minimal audio, horrible edits (there's literally scene's where the image is cut off, and still images for the big reveals???), but they stuck to the source material faithfully (even if the delivery was lackluster). Hoping that Uzumaki get's properly adapted because Junji Ito creates excellent stuff!
