Welp, this is the battle of the moons. I see this episode went for an all fight with the highest stakes.

Quite a fierce episode tbh, almost felt like a season finale. Mangetsu really had a lot to prove herself.

Insane episode , it was epic on so many levels. The fight was crazy and that ending ... oh god that ending was grandiose and sad at once, now my tears flowing down. Shingetsu have to win and i hope she will, but still, i feel bad for Suishou who has been obliged to fight for thousand years.
This time it's really one more to go

Damn!, what an episode. The best episode I've seen so far in this series and second in this season after Kimetsu no Yaiba. 5/5 episode.

Interesting reveal about Suishou having existed for over a thousand years. She really wants to be the Princeps Mage.

RIP Mangetsu. You were brave throughout the series. Shingetsu needs to win against Suishou and be the Princeps Mage.

I'm speechless, I did not expect Suishou having to deal with Granbelm for over a thousand years. I understand now why she's so broken now. Hot damn, the fight was insane! The ost was marvelous and boy, Suishou really give a fight!!.

I never thought this show would have the balls to kill off Mangetsu ;_; It was already sad knowing that she was only a puppet and had almost nothing in life to strive for, but damn, it was so sad watching her fight so bravely trying to achieve Shingetsu's wish through the end, until her very last breath. RIP Mangetsu, may Shingetsu prevail against Suishou.

1 more episode to go.

This was a really good episode.

That scene with Mangetsu and the epic music was perfect such a good send off. Her looking a Shingetsu right before "death" was sooo good. Really emotional scene. I have the feeling they'll bring her back for the ending which I'm not bothered about as Mangetsu is best girl.

Also I love the constant referring to the moon which the two main character's names are based off so Mangetsu saying the moon is pretty was SOO GOOD!

Its funny though cause when I finished the episode I looked out my window to see a half moon. Rip Mangetsu.

The anime is called the "two" princeps so we can safely assume Mangetsu is coming back.

But dam Yuki Aoi is so talented. The screaming and evilness is really portrayed here. But one thing that is a bit annoying is how many times Suishou says "Just kidding" to extend fight scenes and keep her alive. It kind of just feels like a cheap way to keep her the antagonist but whatever.

Still absolutely loving Granbelm and cant wait to see how it ends.

Wow, what a trip. Suishou would hate the comparison but she's just like Anna, terrified of her inferiority in the face of a greater power.

How the hell did the manage to finish all 13 episodes BEFORE it aired?! The battles in this anime so amazing. The music fits perfectly, even when there is none like in much of this episode, it was absent because that was best for the scene. The voice acting is just SSS+. Aoi Yuuki especially just...wow. Everything about this anime is top-tier. It's so weird how underrated it is. Another amazing episode for an amazing show. If the finale is just as good, this will be my AOTS, maybe the year

Granbelm delivers yet another fine episode! I really thought this would be the series finale, this episode had the trappings of a series finale, but surprisingly, there is still one more episode after this. Mangetsu has her fiercest battle yet, as Sushiou throws everything she's got, kitchen sink included, at her, all the while both opponents scream about what they believe.

I admit that Mangetsu's death didn't impact me as much as it should have. It wasn't bad, but I have two problems with this:
1. Mangetsu still defines herself as an extension of Shingetsu, which kinda contradicts her stance in the previous episode, where she was glad that she had an impact in the world beyond just helping Shingetsu win the Granbelm.
2. Mangetsu keeps talking about the joy of living and that people don't need magic to make their wishes come true, which is fine, but I think other shows in general have handled this particular topic better.

It was also a bit jarring that, just when the show reaches the endgame does it give Suishou some backstory. I guess the intention was to make her sympathetic, but considering this comes up so late in the series, it simply points out towards character depth that is simply not there. At least Anna was developed throughout the show, making Suishou look flat and one-dimensional by comparison.

Still, it wasn't a bad episode. The battle was incredible and the vocal performances were amazing. I really hope this show delivers a satisfying conclusion.

Just great episode, again. I'm honestly not sure if we have the fairytale/frinedship end, or if Shingetsu grows up, more or less graduating from Mangetsu. Both endings would be beautiful in their own right, since I a.) like Mangetsu and her interactions with Shingetsu and hope she comes back b.) like to see the grown Shingetsu, who doesn't need to be comforted anymore and can now make friends on her own.

I pray Shingetsu to revive Mangetsu in the next episode, after the way she fought so harder for her. I would be really disappointed by this show if she didn't do so!!!b

I don't get emotional easily, but hot shit this was emotional for me - especially when Mangetsu said those things to Suisho about her being Shingetsu's feelings instead of a doll.

I have no words to describe this. This series is such a hidden gem it's a damn shame. Amazing episode, everything in it was done right, no, the best it could have been. Mangetsu looking at Shingetsu in the end, fuck, I never thought I would get such an emotional reaction from an anime before. Hands down as perfect as an episode like this could've been. OST as always top notch and damn, such colorful and amazing fight choreography.

After the finale next week my question will be : what's next? Second season? Manga? LN? GAME??? Whatever will be they'll have my support !!

Thats quite the final stage for the last battle. Hmm so Suishou's role was that of a watcher whose duty was to prove that no human can ever become a mage. Until now she's been pretty successful despite the number of granbelm's that she been through. Still despite this Suishou's combat abilities and combined experience sure are making her a difficult opponent. The thought of Suishou being the last thousand year trial though was an interesting revelation and one that complemented the battle nicely both physically and mentally. Shingetsu's determination as well as the effect that it had in allowing her to break through Suishou's attacks and defy her was impressive. That final battle between Mangetsu and Suishou was just tragically beautiful.

The characters have really carried the show and I feel its primary let down for me, was the failure to elaborate on the different styles of magic. Apart from that, all the primary contenders of the show had surprising depth. Let's hope it sticks the landing and end strongly.

so the laser that Mangetsu used on episode one to one-shot Rosa is not enough to defeat Suishou. Well, the final boss is a tough one. It's just Ernesta now on 1 vs 1 against Suishou. I still hope for a happy ending. ><

God, Mangetsu's final moments turning back and smiling to Shingetsu probably killed a part of me there. She's really grown to love the world and its flaws, and this final treatment of hers is absolutely not right.

Good to see more on Shuisou's past on another note but I feel like there's more to come from her, such as why bother infiltrating into Anna's family and whatnot. Yikes, 1000 years though. Could she be some kind of doll too, I wonder.

Anyways, I knew that Shingetsu wasn't gone of course but I'm really curious to know how she evaded that situation though. Did she like go invincible right before her mirage got captured or something of the sort? I doubt we'll get an answer on this but for some reason I can't seem to get my head around it.

Overall, this was an amazing episode nonetheless to set up the finale, can't wait to see how it gets resolved later this week! Next Episode Preview pretty much gave away that Shingetsu will become the Princeps Mage but I wonder if this rules out the possibility of Mangetsu returning. Welp, only time will tell.

Looks like I was right 2 episodes back.

Shingetsu is going to be the real MC. And Mangetsu is a doll made to support Shingetsu.

I wonder if Shingetsu will actually win and obtain some sort of power to revive all the people lost.

or will this series end in a tragic end... (which some anime/ movie has done before), where only Shingestu is left and she have to live as the only one that knows of the erased girls.
Or everyone dies and the cycle continues again with Suishou...

Also, I was right on Suishou too... 1000+ years... she's the one responsible for all the previous erased girls and why no one has won yet so the BR will never end. Shishou is the final test for all mages. (except that Shishou literally can use all the magic power... so no mage can really be stronger enough to beat her)

___ ___ ___

However... Mangetsu mentioned that her final goal is to literally erase all magic, so the BR may never continue even if there's no Princep. Meaning if she does this, no one can be revived by magic and will remained erased. Thus making it a somewhat tragic end.

___ ___ ___

Basically...

1 --- Shingetsu wins, become Princep, revives everyone (good end)

2 --- Shingetsu wins, becomes Princep, Mangetsu remains a doll (bad end)

3 --- Shingetsu wins, becomes Princep, Mangetsu erase all magic, no one revived (bad end)

4 --- Shingetsu wins, becomes Princep, but can't revive anyone and have to live as the only one that's knows of the erased (bad end)

5 --- Shishou wins, everyone dies, the BR continues (bad end)

6 --- Shishou wins, Mangetsu revives by Plot Armor and wins, but can't become Princep, everyone remain erased (bad end)

7 --- Mangetsu revives by Plot Armor and merges with Shingetsu to beat Shishou, becomes Princep, revives everyone (good end)

8 --- Shingetsu x Mangetsu, wins, but doesn't become Princep cause they cheated (bad end)

9 --- Shingetsu wins, Magiaconatus trolls everyone and makes Shingetsu the new Shishou and the BR continues (bad end)

10 --- No one wins, everyone died, Magiaconatus picks a new girl to become the final test and the BR continues (bad end)

Once upon a time the way to say I love you in Japanese is to ask ‘the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?’, and to respond with ‘I can die happily’. I suppose Mangetsu’s reference to the full moon can be considered a proposal, what do you guys think?

Amazingly detailed analysis!

I might just want to add that considering Suishiu’s comments on the necessary properties of a princep - to look beyond personal gratification and distaste and to use magic in a way beneficial to humanity, if not the world - it appears the Shingetsu is currently the only appropriate candidate because of her pursuit.

Therefore, it follows that if Suishiu’s comments reflect Magiaconatus’s true master selection criteria, then Shingetsu will only become The Witch if she is true to her purpose.

Therefore, unless Shingetsu experiences a sudden epiphany on how ‘the greater good’ actually prefers the continued existence of magic, the only wish sufficient to make her The Witch is to wish for magic’s disappearance. Hence, it is likely that the True End would be Shingetsu being the only person left.

The opening of the show broke me from the get-go. Suishou badly wanting to be the Princeps mage, but Magiaconatus NOT allowing her to be one, even after 1000 years. She pretty much is an immortal messenger and the tester of the magic universe.

With the final battle being the human being Shingetsu and pensive doll Mangetsu Vs. the FINAL boss of Magiaconatus, Suishou, it is set to be a very heavy and intense one. Blessings and curses upon the magic universe that is Magiaconatus in favouritism.

Hell yea, already know that Shingetsu won't back down after that intense fight that is leaving Mangetsu to tend to Suishou whilst her fake death, aided by Nene's pig and shield. ALL IS BUT A TEST for the true successor of Magiaconatus.

In the most insane dramatic fashion ever, the look in Mangetsu's eyes is just frighteningly devastating to see as she disappears before Shingetsu's very eyes. Her job of a doll is done, and may her spirit reside in Shingetsu. RIP Mangetsu, the greatest support character in this show.
"The moon is beautiful, now I can die in peace." - Mangetsu's last words to Shingetsu, in what could be said as a very dramatic function for her last action.

YET ANOTHER PHENOMENAL episode, and a superb one at that. How did this show went under the radar is beyond my comprehension...

Praying for nothing but the very best for the finale. Literally trembling in uncontrollable tears at how much the plot became more refined since the beginning, through the insane revelations and such. I really, REALLY cannot wait for the final episode to come out next week!

This episode is yet another reminder as to why Granbelm is one of the most grossly underrated shows this year. This episode was simply phenomenal!

For the first time, I finally have sympathy for Suishou. She's been battling in the Granbelm battles for 1,000 years and even though she's won the lot, Magiaconatus won't grant her wish to become a princep mage. It's no wonder that her personality is so skewered and twisted.

Either way, the between Shingetsu and Mangetsu Vs Suishou was brilliant, from the animation quality to the well-timed soundtrack. Not to forget, the voice acting was spot on as well, as you can really feel every single drop of emotion from each of the girls' sreaming as they battled their hardest.

Mangetsu was the star of this episode, though. Although she did revert to her dark mode for a bit after she thought that Shingetsu was taken out, Mangetsu got her composure back and really went all out on Suishou, constantly putting her on the spot with her attacks and her truthful words.

Thanks to Mangetsu before the fight even begun, she gave Shingetsu the invisible spell from Nene that really came in handy when she was about to be taken out early on. She stayed dormant for a while before she made her move towards the fight again.

Sadly, Mangetsu, despite her tremendous efforts, just wasn't strong enough to take out Suishou and looking at her expression at the end before she perished, she already knew that from the start. Her finals moments as she looked at Shingetsu and mentioned how beautiful the moon was before she was taken out for good was really heartbreaking. =(

The final episode is going to be really epic and interesting. Even though I still want Shingetsu to beat Suishou, it could go either way at this point. I just hope that it ends on a satisfying note, regardless if the ending itself is a happy or sad one.

Mangetsuuu! ... Hell !, that epic fight, the soundtrack that accompanied her, was amazing. An exciting and sad farewell by Mangetsu, his speech about the world and humans, was fantastic, really, it touched my heart. She earned my respect, ... despite being a doll, she fought courageously until the end for Shingetsu's desire.
No wonder Suishou is so powerful, that damn has had 1000 years of experience in Granbelm, is almost invincible and immortal.
The truth is that I forgot that this anime had 13 episodes, it was a surprise to know that this great anime still has a week left. I consider it one of the top 10 of the season. I will look forward to the final episode.

Absolutely amazing episode.

I'm surprised they managed to develop Mangetsu so much, never would have guessed at the beginning. There were signs of her internal struggle fairly early on, but once the doll theme kicked in, full-force, she truly has become a great character. This episode is the culmination of her character. Her life has never had more meaning than in her final moments.

So good.

The show subverts the protagonist hero trope. Instead of becoming the OP hero with mary sue powers (not that its inherently bad), she gets to face the reality that robs her of everything. This was a good decision. Instead of going the edgy route, she submits to play the best support she can, finding meaning in that. She has gone from insecure nobody to someone with great conviction and mental fortitude, someone greater than Suisho or Shingetsu. The creators made the most out of this character and I salute them for this.

This show is well worth watching and I will keep coming back to this episode .

Probably Lord El-Melloi II Case Files

Seriously though, Shingetsu comes off as either as cold as a true psychopath or irredeemably stupid, none of which makes sense. She got better in recent episodes, obviously caring for Mangetsu, but before that she was dragging the show down. Like many other characters.

Interestinly, this could be explained now by Mangetsu being her feelings. Notice how she can cry now, which would normally be somewhat inconsistent for her. If this is true, then her character could end up 'explained'. It wouldnt magically make some of the earlier episodes better, but it could mean retaining the good quality the series finds itself at at the moment.

Because, Maria had such a good redemption episode, and Mangetsu got a great theme tying the show together and Suisho has become an interesting 'villain' too. How they deal with Shingetsu may decide whether this show will remain inconsistent dark horse or become underappreciated gem. Well, it is without doubt underappreciated already, but it could become a gem too.

PS: definitely best OST I have heard in a loong time.

So... Mangetsu's dead ? That's it ? I seriously expected her to defeat Suishou. I wonder how things will play out now.
This episode made me super anxious... But not for the right character. I've been rooting for Suishou the entire time and I'll still do in the last episode, even though I don't at all expect her to win. I'm already glad to see she's still in the game. No, I'm not a psychopath, I just tend to root for villains if they're great as they are way more interesting than the protagonists. And Suishou just keeps getting better. I'm glad to see she's not just a bad guy for the sake of it but actually has deep reasons for doing what she's doing. But what is she exactly ? I mean, she keeps laughing at Mangetsu for being a puppet created by the Magia Conatus but she technically is pretty similar. I'm pretty sure that's the point, but how come she existed even before Magia Conatus' birth ? Well, it'll probably be explained in the next episode. I'm so hyped, I can't wait to see how far her development goes. (Actually, I'll wait because I don't want to see everything today, but it's hard. And I didn't expect to be so hyped over a Granbelm character but they managed to put in Suishou just what I love in a character.)
I feel like a monster for barely caring for Mangetsu's death... I like her, the entire point of her being an incarnation of Shingetsu's feelings is very interesting, but I can't say that she is what makes the show truly interesting. Her speech was supposed to be epic and meaningful but I've heard this kind speech so many times, I'm not touched by it anymore. I'm not insensitive guys ! But seriously, I can't help but think that a villain with deep motivations is way better than a protagonist who stays positive because "Wooow life is beautiful". (I know it's more complicated than that but still.)
And now we're left with Shingetsu... I must admit this show surprised me as I didn't expect her to be the actual protagonist. But I truly have barely any sympathy for her, the show failed at making me care because she feels more like a character created to be "best waifu" by reuniting everything that could make people like her rather than actual character with a real soul. Plus, she kinda is responsible for a lot of things. I'd just like her to stop making mistakes, because at this point her stupidity is becoming tiring. And I'm not the type to be so hard with characters so it's saying something.
I know her winning would be for the best but I'm already bracing myself for the feels with Suishou's obvious upcoming defeat.
Also, to stop a bit with Suishou, I wondered another thing. What happened to Mangetsu when she went Berserk mode ?! She looked like she was possessed, that's weird...
Also, I wonder what will happen to the remaining characters. Kuon's sister who completely forgot about her, Nene whose issues have never been solved, Mangetsu's ex-family, Rosa...
(Speaking of Rosa, it actually reminds me of something. How did she and Suishou come to be at Anna's service ? Like, what led to it ? I hope it'll be adressed just a little but, that was one of my biggest questions...)

Edit : I just noticed there's an 8th girl on the show's poster, what does that mean ?! She's the one working at Anna's house but she's just a side character, what she is doing here ? Are they really going to introduce a new villain now ?

Definitely the best scene in the series.

Seriously, this entire last section of this series is soooo good! All the plot twists and things different from the norm. You'd never expect the main character to sacrifice herself on the second last episode. And damn that face Mangetsu makes when she looks up to Shingetsu. This is the stuff that made Granbelm memorable for me.

Nooooo Mangetsu!!! :'( Suishou said there's no was a human could become Princeps Mage, so I was lowkey expecting Shingetsu to lose, and then Mangetsu, being a doll, would be the one who could become the mage.

It made sense that Shingetsu didn't lose this episode, we didn't see the big pillar of light that happens every time someone loses.

Big Madoka vibes from this episode (and from this series in general lol). I want Shingetsu to defeat Suishou in the final episode, then he could be the Princeps Mage and make it so that it Granbelm never has to happen again!!!

...but like...what if becoming Princeps Mage doesn't actually grant your witch. Like what if Shingetsu just becomes the next Suishou for however long this happens until she gets defeated. That would be a plot twist o.o
