I feel like part of it is that nekos, puppy girls, bunny girls, foxxo girls, etc. are just girls with the addition of ears and a tail (in other words, most look almost as if a normal girl is just wearing ear and tail accessories) on top of those animals being naturally adorable. Snakes aren't exactly cute. Normally, you wouldn't see a snake and suddenly have the urge to pet it or hug it. Sure while snake girls can be cute, anything can be cute if you slap a pretty face onto it and make it look humanoid. Basically the wider demographic prefers anthropomorphosized versions of animals we already deem as cute. And about the horse and dragon girls, I actually haven't seen many aside from those in Pretty Derby and Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Then again, I also haven't watched an abundance of animes centering on anthropomorphosism so they might be popular and I just don't know about it. |
