That's one heck of a daring escape.

This episode was weird but taking on the role of a spy really has its risks and consequences. I'd hate to be captured like that. And also, it looks like the "Twilight's War" was going on around this time that heightened the tension in Europe.

Good episode, so much tension, and in the end he escaped, not that i doubted it....

But the standout of the episode was the HEAD of the spymaster, oh my god, he needs a surgery.

Damn that man is creepy as hell.
I'm pretty much curious about how the truth serum works. But it seems like a brain-washing method or something like that. And he got lucky for not getting detected in that room.

I thought it was because the spy felt dizzy but then it didn't get much better...

Damn this episode felt like 5 mins to me....Such thrilling sets of events

I loved how this episode dealt with what to do when your identity is compromised and you're trapped behind enemy lines and it was executed perfectly for my taste

The suspense was there, they managed to handle the severity of the situation well and they way that they linked it to that book was brilliant....This episode showed just how much of a master Yuuki is lol

Everything that led up to the escape was pretty cool and I especially like how it involved sleeper agents as well as the whole thing with training your subconscious....The training that these boys had to go through for that look painful

Overall, this was probably my favorite episode next to episode 2 and I really liked the boy that it focused on as well as the ending....The British guy was creepy af tho, I feel like this won't be the last time we are him

Massive improvement on last week's episode. Actually felt tense this time, even though I still have no ida which spy this episode just followed. What was with the spymaster's head though? That was just downright bizarre.

This episode was excellent. Loved the tense and thrilling atmosphere.

Loved how he escaped from the enemy, The Robinson Crusoe and Friday analogy with the Spy and Sleeper agents was nice.

The Spies sure are prepared for everything, Each of them underwent so much training on how to deal with different scenarios.
Yuuki sure is one excellent Spy Trainer.

This episode focused a lot on mind games.

Dang, I didn't realize Britain had aliens in their midst, but they are not really good at disguising themselves since they still have their HUGE forehead lol.

i dont think we are supposed to care for the spy,he is a spy so his origins are irrelevant

what this series is trying to achieve is to get the viewers to think "oh this was some pretty cool spy stuff" , nothing more and nothing less

In real life maybe. But in fiction, you ARE supposed to try to make the audience care for the spy. Otherwise, how am I going to care for the spy stuff? You think John Le Carre got popular because his protagonists were all a bunch of plot devices in his spy thrillers?

If you dislike the show so much, why watch it? Popular spy stories do tend to make you care for the soy, but not ALL spy stories are required to follow that formula lol. If you're not into the style that's fine, but it's kinda weird that you've wasted so much time watching a show that's not your thing.

I had to suspend my disbelief with the truth serum here. Good thing Wikipedia exist.

A "truth serum" is a colloquial name for any of a range of psychoactive medications used to obtain information from subjects who are unable or unwilling to provide it otherwise. They have been used in the course of investigating civil and criminal cases, and for the evaluation of psychotic patients in the practice of psychiatry. That application was first documented by Dr. William Bleckwenn in 1930, and it still has selected uses today. In the latter context, the controlled administration of intravenous hypnotic medications is called "narcosynthesis" or "narcoanalysis". It may be used to procure diagnostically – or therapeutically – vital information, and to provide patients with a functional respite from catatonia or mania.

At first it sounded waaaay too outstretched from reality, but it was cool because with this info it seems like it's not magical-like, but rather drug-based. It's cool that we got to see one instance were this rescue operation would've been successful, in my mind I was already thinking how Mayor Weird-head would had foreseen the sleeper and foiled the escape. It's gonna be rough for Drugs Spy to work in London once again.

I do understand that point. Last episode's "Find the Spy" game was a clear indication that we will never be informed who is who and what they do until we get to the end of the episode, like a magician doing things and after that explaining the trick. It's literally "All according to Keikaku: The Anime", or walking plot devices.

Not that I'm not okay with this. I think the "Joker Game" explanation from the first episode is not only there to tell the militar guy about the rules of their game, but is also telling to the viewer how the anime will develop. It has already tell us that they are gonna toy with us, giving false clues and misdirection, and I'm okay with that since the show has had it's intentions clear from the beginning.

In real life maybe. But in fiction, you ARE supposed to try to make the audience care for the spy. Otherwise, how am I going to care for the spy stuff? You think John Le Carre got popular because his protagonists were all a bunch of plot devices in his spy thrillers?

That's a nice name. Gonna check out his work.

And I don't know about you, but if the show really cared about making every spy special, the wouldn't had given them different names and almost similar faces. It is already clear they won't give you a lot of characterization, only spy tricks. In fact, the militar guy is the only character that, on a small degree, develops. It is a flaw, that's true, but the show doesn't really pretends, or at least I haven't noticed it, that his focus will be characters.

I don't mind needles irl. In fiction they're so scary, probably bc they're mostly used for evil intentions.
I still call it torture, ya alien-like geezer; it's just less pain in the ass to use serum on the boy.

Truth serum is basically dulling the mind so you can't make things up or lie very effectively. This is the basics of it, of course in reality it's a bit more complicated than that. But yea for those of you wondering.

Anyways a pretty good episode. During mid-episode when they introduced the creepy British guy and about how Yuuki turned him in, I thought this will lead to a linear plot line instead. But my hopes and dreams were shattered. regardless it's an entertaining episode.
Better than the previous which was an utter disgrace outside of an enjoyable main character.

The term "Twilight War' was used by Winston Churchill to refer to the period between October 1939 and April 1940, which is called by most historians as the "Phoney War" or "Sitzkrieg'. Germany had attacked Poland the month before on 1 September 1939, and Britain and France declared war on Germany on 3 September 1939.

A vast improvement over last week's clusterfuck. It was pretty cool to see how the spy dude handled a situation where his identity became known to the enemy, and I didn't think there would be a sleeper spy there to help him out. Also, that spymaster dude's head and face will haunt my dreams, he looked so fucking creepy. People think there are aliens on Mars, but I think they should just go to London lol.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

I mean if watching Joker Game is part of an ongoing project for you or you plan on engaging in some form of discussion on anime as a whole that's awesome but commenting on the threads seems superfluous since all you're telling anyone by posting here is that you're unhappy lol. Though I guess it's pertinent to your username (which I only just noticed and is A+ honestly).

But like this particular thread isn't for critiquing anime as a whole unless I missed something?? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep specific critiques about character design to like, IDK a review or something? A lot of people agree with you anyway, so no need to repeat the sentiment so much lmao.

The spymaster reminded me of Lunge (Monster). Immediately thought of him, huh.

Excellent episode, passed in a blink.

I like the analogy between the sleeping spy and Robinson Crusoe's story and the way Col. Yuuki hinted the mission to Kaminaga without saying a word (he actually shoo him with a hand :)

Better than the episode of the last week. This time we have the (mis)adventures of Kaminaga. I liked the mind games and the Robinson Crusoe theme of the episode and the spymaster, though creepy-looking, was cool and menacing in his own way. I hope we will see him again in the series (also to heard Hochuu Otsuka's stylish voice again).

This was pretty much the movie's scene all over again. Different characters and location but near identical execution and dialogue... Which does make me wonder if that also happens in the novel.

Anyways, check the movie out if you like what you're seeing it. It's a lot more "good vibey" and 007ish though.

I don't know if I should laugh about the whole plot of this episode or I should cringe at how stupid they make the other spies to be; on top of this, to escape an facility that deals with counter-intelligence and not to suspect of moles is kind of absurd, coupled with the laughable room search, because just glancing at a room will give you all the information you'll need to know that the spy's not there. Talk about plot convenience much.

This could've been far more interesting if they turned him in a double agent, if not, do what counter-intelligence services do, extract information, kill or gamble politically in order to preserve relations between the countries, altho in that time period is hard to do that due to already known circumstances.

And what's with all the bollocks of having "layers" of what you'll hide in your mind?

Well, in the end, it's my fault expecting this to be a decent drama/thriller, but I guess I got another James Bond or Mission Impossible show.
