| I don't know that there is much anyone here can do to help. My daughter is nearly 24, watches anime, plays games, and is a first-year graduate student in public health at an Ivy League university. Obviously her hobbies have not retarded her development into an adult. However it doesn't sound like your parents are concerned about your maturation but your morals. Maybe you should all watch Super Book, Chi's Sweet Home, or Space Brothers together. I also suggest reading this thread from a couple years back at the anime forum at Amazon. Anime Recommendations for a Christian. It was started by a young lady in a somewhat similar situation as yours. One comment from that discussion: I once asked my Pastor for advice because I love watching anime and playing computer games like "World of Warcraft". I asked him because someone told me that I was practicing Devil Worship and magic and witchcraft by playing a GAME, or watching certain type's movies. Or best yet, I was renouncing God by doing so. I asked my pastor if what I was doing was really that wrong. My Pastor simply told me this. "There is a difference between reality and fantasy. If you're playing a game or watching a movie all that stuff is based of fantasy and fiction, as long as you understand the difference between the two and don't use the games or movies as a replacement for God and depending on your own personal convictions your fine". Ultimately your only option may be to move out of the house. |

I went on an anime hiatus while I was in college. But I graduated, got a job, and now I get to watch all the anime I want. It might be a little difficult to break away from your favorite hobbies for a while, but life does come first. Work hard, so that you can finally be together forever with your beloved anime! |

| Well that's pretty sad but you should stand up for what you want. Sit down, have a chat and tell them that it's not just a phase. It's just like watching TV shows. There are TV shows targeted towards girls, similarly there are also anime just for girls. I think that someone has told them about the term waeboos. Convince them that it won't effect you and let them know that there are even worse shit that people get addicted to, like drugs. I know they want your betterment but they aren't doing it the right way. It's part of their responsibility to listen to what you have to say before disgarding your hobbies. Either way stand up for your rights, you have my full support! |

| Just tell them they have to accept it, because it's your life I remember back in the ol days of World Of Warcraft, I would Raid from 10:00pm to 5:00 in the morning, and sometimes my dad would just be hovering behind me when I'm playing in the pitch black room and he scares me half to death. He always threatened he would pull the cable so I couldn't play. But as soon as he went back to bed, I immediately went back to doing my business :P You're 19 so you should be in college by now, so you have more choice and freedom. So use that to your advantage :) |

| Even if the demographic target for an Anime would be for ''boys'' (shonen), that alone does not mean woman, or other demographic groups wouldn't be able to enjoy such series.
