Well that was cute. Asuka still remains my favorite so far in this series while we get more focus on music and the three main leads. They need to improve together as an ensemble though.

The music itself also has a nice appeal to it so far.

That yelling at the end though.

Liked it. A bit slow though (is this show 2 cours 24 episodes? If so, then good).

I hope that girl looking over the window (Natsuki?) will find enthusiasm in playing.

I really like this series. It's such a blast of nostalgia being that I was in band in elementary and was pretty competitive myself with the other band members. I'll definitely keep watching.

If i would be in the place of the first years, then i would be pissed at the half-assed try of practicing when people decided beforehand that they wanna go for the nationals. Pretty damn lazy.

OST was very nice in this episode.

So, in the end It is totally different from K-on.
Of course that difference is not bad thing, actually I like this show very much.
Nice episode.

There's already a bit of drama in this episode.... good....

Looks like Kousaka isn't very happy with what happened...

Why did they join the club in the first place if they are not gonna play music, sigh.

Feel for those who want to play.

Man the drama in this club is intense.....

I felt really bad for the first years because they have to deal with all this bullshit between the second years....How can they expect to succeed if they all want to be lazy and sit on their assess all day and complain about every little thing and to make matters worse half of em quit for trivial reasons -_-

I felt so embarrassed when they called the cool sensei dude to hear them play the ensemble only for them to suck and for him not to mince words and tell them how horrid they were and to not waste his time....I hope that those lazy complainers all felt bad, you could hear all the salt in the words after he left and quite frankly they deserved to hear everything he said

As of right now things are not looking good and sadly only a handful (Our main trio, the MC's guy friend and then Asuka and her small clique of people and Kousaka) of persons are serious.....Seeing them genuinely care about the band made me smile and I really want them to succeed, especially Kousaka because I know she wants it more than anyone and that piece that she played at the end and then that loud scream pretty much said it all

Overall it was a great episode and I'm looking forward to the next one...Hopefully the band can get their shit together (Best girl Asuka was perfect yet again in this episode >//< Man I love her so much)

Asuka's dialogues are always so fun and suggestive! "Please, Kumiko-han! Blow me, blow me!" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
She's definitely the best character of the show. Rest of the cast are pretty dull so far.

Too many unmotivated and lazy people in the club. Taki-sensei was a bit harsh towards them, but I must agree with him that the ensemble was totally bad.

Reina's little solo at the end was pretty nice. That scream though.. I think I enjoyed that more than her performance. XD

Decent episode. Looks like the practice will resume next week.

Yay they practiced this episode, and although it was a bit short, sadly,it's something.Well atleast they aren't just sitting around drinking tea & eating cake, but I still found this rather slow and kinda boring for the most part.
But I really liked the ending with the music,it was really damn nice to listen to.The yelling on the otherhand...
Hopefully they increase the amount of music in the episodes to come, would actually be pretty cool as they proved a nice taste this week ;D

please don't crucify me

Interesting, the pace is still slow but we can grasp some characters better.
The supervisor is quite interesting, he's not your usual somewhat-handsome nice teacher, his talk + his expression is really something.

Pretty good episode. Lotta tension in the class, and the teacher has some pretty harsh way of teaching.

Also, innuendo~!

... and my weekly dose of happiness ends again.
Good episode, the band dynamics were well done and, from what I can tell, the voice acting for every minor character is great. I liked the part at the end with Kousaka, while Kumiko and her sister's scene showed once again how indecisive she is.

You actually felt all that after watching this episode?
You could feel the frustration and disappointment from everyone that was trying to take things seriously and personally I hate it when people act like how the second years acted in this episode. They're being selfish, inconsiderate and lazy and because of it everyone else is suffering which isn't fair

It's a drama i guess.
Well they first have to solve their issues before they can start playing since they are getting no where with their current rate.

Wonder what the band director is thinking… not being involved so much & expecting them to figure it out. Well, majority of high school kids are unmotivated & don't like doing work. Maybe because of this, he treats the students like this. He's got my vote tho.

The band director is kind of terrifying. Like, he tells them that they all suck so calmly it's scary. I wonder if there will be an episode where he just snaps on them. That'd be pretty interesting to watch happen.

"yay!! we're going to nationals!!.... as long as we don't have to work for it.... or something."

I dunno. I consistently performed well at NYSSMA(yearly new york music comp/evaluation), did regional state band every year, all-state band once ... If my high school band had been like this, then I'd have said "fuck it!" and looked for people to start a chamber group with.

Yeah, this was better than the first two episodes anyway. The teacher was a needed breath of fresh air even if he had only a small amount of screentime. Reina seems like she'll be an interesting character and Asuka remains as my only source of enjoyment, apart from watching the teacher tear the students a new one.

The drama, while relatable, isn't exactly the most exciting thing to look at and is honestly quite boring at times, but at least we're starting to see music actually being played.

Surprising that the band director would be very direct with his opinion about the band's performance. Harsh, but sometimes the truth does need to be told.

With a group to that size, it's almost inevitable that certain members will start to slack off, become very lazy or quit the band altogether, which can effect the confidence for the rest of the band members, particularly the first years.

Seeing Reina practising her trumpet on the hill was pretty nice. Hopefully Kumiko & co can help the band to overcome this hurdle in time.

Asuka still remains the best character so far. =D

Really like the sensei for some reason. He's not an asshole. The way he's harsh and straight to the point without hiding anything is actually refreshing. I don't think I've ever seen an anime teacher like him before ^^

Asuka is just so much fun :3 And I'm really loving Kumiko a lot. Her voice is so adorable but that's to be expected since it's Tina's (Black Bullet) VA <3

I'm pretty impressed at how they made at least an effort to show that a symphonic band is a team effort and an activity you need to take seriously if you're going to do it. It's not going to be some bullshit where Kumiko, Midori, Hazuki and Reina are going to save the day by carrying the whole band; they're just parts(probably going to be very important parts for everyone except Hazuki for now since she's a total novice) of a greater whole.

Taki-sensei gives exactly zero fucks about his students' feelings and also gives zero fucks about whatever shit he'll take from them...and I fucking love his attitude. It's very much like my own symphonic band instructor. He would let us play in ensemble(it's run the opposite from how the show depicts it where I went to school and I suspect in much of the US) even if we were kind of average but if you were shitty, you weren't sticking around and he had no qualms about pointing out every little mistake you made, but he genuinely wanted us to keep playing and getting better.
Pretty depressing episode on the whole, though there were a couple Kumiko reaction faces again :3

I'm very much enjoying this series and I expect I would have even if I wasn't in a band for seven years until I finished high school. The drama doesn't feel cheap, it's a very real issue and one the characters will have to overcome in addition to any personal problems they might have. Next Tuesday can't come soon enough.

For someone like Kumiko or Reina, playing something as easy as the Marines' Hymn is boring as all fuck.
If you can read sheet music, you can tell by the short glimpse we had of it; if not, in general for sheet music, the more notes you have in one bar(the area between two vertical thin lines on the sheet), the more complicated it is to play. This piece isn't very complicated at all.

Wanting to not put in effort, but still wanting a big reward, being "realistic" for an "unrealistic" goal. A very low possibility isn't zero!

The "Please don't waste my time" line by the teacher was great!

Some members being extremely unmotivated and ruining it for everyone else. That is the good thing about bands, in sports, you can easily put aside people by putting them on the bench, but in bands, every member playing is a big part of the overall.

It was nice hearing Kousaka play and seeing Kumiko reacting to it. A pretty nice episode and the 2nd-year thing going on is also pretty interesting.

3 episodes in and we already have some issues and drama.

The sensei is really one terrifying character. Able to say all of those (quite) harsh criticisms while maintaining a calm and composure face... Man, you just don't want to mess with him.

Sometimes when you're frustrated, there's nothing you can do but to scream it on top of your lungs (not sure if I said it correctly, but oh well)

The pace was a bit slow, but again I don't mind at all.

KyoAni just keeps saving anime season after season. I'm gonna repeat some things I said last time but I feel they need to be praised on this. Believable and emotionally investing drama, interesting and fun characters who have their moe points but also act in a realistic way, along with beautiful animation and a few great BGM tracks are all making this one of the best shows this season.

I hope we see more of Kumiko in her sweats. Her and Asuka are making this such a fun experience. Also Kumiko and Shuuichi need to have some romantic interaction this season. C'mon KyoAni, make 'em hold hands!!

Hmm, so there are some second year students who just wants to slack off? I say they should deal with them pretty fast in that case. Maybe change their prez?

But still, the drama was just weird. Or maybe only badly done. Kinda missed the impact and didn't felt too urgent for viewer. It simply didn't have the potential to drive this episode forward. Therefore the only highlight of this episode was Dvorak's Largo in the end.
