Beautiful first episode! The episodes with young Ginko are my favorite, so this was a treat. Miyuki captures Ginko so perfectly. Very moving first episode, I'm glad one off favorite series is back.

sooooo so keen to see the rest of these chapters played out in anime form
"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

That's why he smokes.
8/10 for this ep.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

That a truly beautiful episode, even by Mushishi's standards. Any insight into Ginko's past is a treasure in and of itself, and I felt wonderfully gratified to have a whole episode once again dedicated to such an important part of his life. Not to mention the visuals were simply exquisite, art and animation of nature at it's best. All in all, everything that Mushishi excels in was doubled and perfected in this episode.

You guys pretty much summed up my feelings. This ep was a fucking masterpiece. Heck, the whole series is a masterpiece. I don't want it to end.

Capturing it all, so I can search it out and remember it later.
I love this show like nothing else.

This was a great start. Knowing more about Ginko's past is always awesome. I want to know how he became who he is now. He had such a harsh childhood... being used like that... I still have so many questions...

That OP... "And I shiver like I used to...". How true! This episode gave me shivers, and gave me tears, and gave me peace... like always. Mushishi has so few characters... and still manages to drag you into that world. So beautiful.

Absolutely breathtaking return to Mushishi. Seeing a younger, less experienced Ginko struggle with finding his place in the world was so powerful and bittersweet. What got me the most was when Ginko realized the true nature of the mushi through his eye. "So you just want to live."

Masterful execution and artistic atmosphere as always.

One of the few high-grade anime of this season. Well, of a lot of seasons, actually.

It's strange how this anime is so compelling. Normally, I watch a lot of shounen or action oriented seinen, and for sure, some of those are quite good too...and yet. This is the utter opposite: calm, talking, exploring, a bit weird, slow paced, mystical, almost no action. It's just...a compilation of wondrous stories. And yet so compelling. Nature, life and death, human and other interactions, mystery, bittersweetness...and we're slowly walking through it all, with wonder. It gives such a amazing, soothing feeling.

Mushisi is almost a genre on its own. And a rare breed it is. It's story-telling at it's finest.

The anime captures the spirit of it so well, and the animation itself is also top-notch: beautiful and artistic portrayals of trees, plants, sunsets, and nature as a whole, be it autumn, spring, winter, or summer. The musicscore is wonderful too, from the opening OST to the music and sound in every scenery, to even no sound at all, when a meaningful silence is needed. A lot of Mushishi episodes are true masterpieces.

I'm pretty thrilled a new season has started, and it gives the necessary counterweight to all the fast-paced anime out there. For me, it's like a much needed resting point from all the rest; an oasis for the mind.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

That may have just been my favorite Mushishi episode.

One of very few episodes in anime that has affected me on a spiritual level.

Probably the best first episode in anime I've ever seen.

So deep it gives me the chills...

Great episode, with a beautiful background story, showing us more details of Ginko's troubling past

I am probably going to wait for the season to end and then watch the episodes, but who knows
And will this be the last season? Have to start reading manga

Mediocre as usual, I start to think pple rate it so high because "dude mushishi is good because pple say it's good!". I gave it a 8 for the graphics and overall effect, but the boredom should downgrade it a lot..

lol. Some people will never get it. But that's alright, its their taste. I just can't help but feel a bit sad because they can't see or feel what we do.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Which makes sense, given that Sugame no Uo also played in an episode about Ginko's past. So that part was probably intentional.

lol'd at his choice of words considering his eye is bleeding.

This episode was SPECTACULAR. Much, MUCH better than the debut episode of Zoku Shou's first cour, though still not as good as the debut episode of the first season. Ahhh, what an amazing first impression, though. A little bit bitter yet mostly hopeful, adventures of Kid Ginko, and a philosophical quote to reflect on one's position in the world to end the episode. Of course, the ending music was still meditatively gorgeous.

Yeah, I loved this episode.

We need more episodes about Ginko's past. The guy knows everything so he must has seen stuff.

Oh, pitiful shadow cloaked in darkness.

Thy hollow soul drowns in thy sins.
How would you like to see what death is like?

Loved it, as usual. It's heartbreaking to think I only have 9 episodes left & a movie before I have to part with Mushishi (minus repeat viewings). Don't have much to say but I will say it's hard for me to decide what moment was more powerful, Ginko's realization about the Mushi just wanting to live or Suguro's parting words to Ginko. Both of those lines hit pretty hard.

Since the existence of this sequel was out of my knowledge I was quite content to see that there is actually a continuation of ginko's journey and accordingly to this my expectations were fulfilled with this first episode. The calm atmosphere is being used once again in this and you are able to just dive into this other world which's presented and well known until now for the viewer in mushishi.

To state something more related to this episode I was happy to see ginko's past getting revealed a bit. The toneshift when he took that egg aways was magnificently executed.
