Mm, nice match.

This one lived up to my expectations with both the momentum and gameplay. It seems like Eiirchirou is more focused than ever and that's a good thing for him to do especially in the upcoming tournament. I was also impressed with Miyagawa's performance. Honestly, both players imo did well for what they bought to the court.

Great Match!
But a bit bittersweet, while I want Maruo to win his matches is was kinda sad to see Miyagawa go out and cry.. Guess that's how life just it.. :´(

Maruo steamrolled! Did not expect that at all! Regardless, it was a great match that gave a great display to Maruo's physical improvements combined with his tactical analysis. Shame that Miyagawa went out this way... D: Hope we see him again in the future.

Loved how during the match, Maruo was swaying his body while spinning his racket while waiting in the return games.

Great episode overall and no better way to start the current grand slam event Roland Garros for me. xD

*clap clap clap* The animation did justice to the manga. Unfortunately, they only have that much budget and have to lower other episodes' animation in order to make the matches look very good.

Really loved how this match pis played. Maruo is clearly dominating the game, which makes it more believable that he can win the first place (Hope he does). Miyagawa is still a adorable character. :)

How Miyagawa rised up like that to come back even stronger, breaking the flow and making the match exciting again, it was great!

Maruo improved so much from the Florida arc and the strength training that I thought it would be one-sided, glad Miyagawa put up more than a valiant fight.

I thought Miyagawa was a year younger than Maruo. Wasn't he in middle school when Maruo was a 1st year? So shouldn't Miyagawa have one more chance at the All-Japan?

Yes he does. But when he becomes a third year he has to make the decision to focus entirely on tennis in order to try and become a pro or to focus on his studies in order to get into a good university. It is the same dilemma Maruo is facing currently since he is a third year. But Maruo decided to focus on tennis.

Miyagawa sees it as that since he couldn't even make it out of the prefectural tournament, does he really have what it takes to become a pro? When looking at the grand scale of things, this tournament doesn't even compare to the regional and national level tournaments that people who are striving to go pro should compete in regularly.

Its like how Maruo said he would give up on becoming a pro if he didn't win the All Japan Junior, only a little less extreme than that.

I swear after the florida arc Maruo decided to become badass. Beat the first guy 6-0, now the third seed 6-2. Man he could probably win this tournament.

Dang, that was a GREAT match. The animation was really amazing too. They both improved so much, but this is so big for Eiichiro! He won against the third seed (again)~ Wonder why he's gonna be playing against Natsu next week? Can't wait for next Sunday~~~

This series needs a higher budget. I want my eyes to see ultra HQ. I mean the shounen sports get it, but why not Baby Steps? Argh... But they really put in some effort this match. :)

That was exciting to watch, even though I read ahead in the manga.

Looks like Ei-chan's match against Natsu next episode. Cool down period.

I love how fast paced this match was! It wasn't hard to follow either despite all the thoughts coming in right after another, mostly it was Ei-chan, but also some Miyagawa. It felt like I was right there playing the game and deciding on what type of returns to make based on what my opponent's past data and what he was doing. Amazing. Ei-chan thinks at such a fast pace, in reality, would be almost split second decisions. Miyagawa did his best, but in the end, Ei-chan improved faster and passed Miyagawa. That's definitely something that would shake up a person's confidence. Good thing Oobayashi was there to cheer him on :)

Probably one of the best quality episodes so far, although it was inevitable that Maruo had to win I fully enjoyed the match without worries, it was so believable that I almost thought Miyagawa would have won.

Pretty hyped for Nat-chan vs Ei-chan next week!

This episode proved that Baby Steps is as unpredictable with its wins as it is with its losses. I would have never expected Maruo to win as dominantly as he did. Upon hearing he'd have to either break or hold at match point I thought he'd definitely take Takuya to a final point while struggling to hold. But, instead we got the recently powered up Takuya playing at his best losing his own serve. I love that. This match was perfect.

Seeing Maruo play so confidently as he made a strategy to crush Takuya's serve and drive volley was incredible. Maruo has improved so much. Both players were playing like animals, they had their backs to the wall and both were fighting, not for fun, not to learn, but to crush the other person. It was crush or be crushed and Maruo realized that. Undeniably the most intense match we've seen...

Takuya getting into his own head and giving up to the anger that Maruo had improved so much more than him in the same amount of time and the thought that he was completely unmatched was horrifying. He was hyperventilating and looked absolutely miserable. I had to ponder if the match was going to end in that manner when it occurred. Not only did we see this side of him in the match, but he cried afterwards. Baby Steps s2 is giving me practically everything I wanted from s1.

Now the question is... will Maruo win round 3?!

Ei-chan has truly come far. The guy completely broke down, that's what happens once you admit that you're worse than someone when competing in such. Well, Ei-chan won, this time by quite a lot, it was fascinating.

Fantastic episode. For how much the series focuses on Maruo and his tennis and development, Baby Steps did a good job in fleshing out Miyagawa enough to make his moments hit despite being the overwhelming favorite going into the match despite slipups in prefectural matches in the past. He got absolutely destroyed by Maruo 6-2, but he gave it his all, he was just outclassed by an opponent who evolved massively over the past year.

But to again see Maruo beat Miyagawa convincingly 6-2 (breaking twice as well), with his serves and variety of strokes felt really satisfying to watch given how much we saw him lose and lose and lose, despite best efforts. His gradual development into a potential powerhouse in this tournament has been really terrific, although he's still not perfect by any means with his game. More than his skills, his confidence has evolved so much too, even when Miyagawa was firing back at moments, he always kept his composure and didn't let the hot streak bother him. He has to make it to the All-Japan Juniors to keep his promise with Natsu as well as become a pro in the future, so he got his work cut out too. Good win overall.

The music and intensity overall was spot on and some of the best in the series so far as well. It just made the whole bout of Miyagawa's survival vs Maruo's attack even better.
