Mob Psycho 100

Eighth-grader Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama has tapped into his inner wellspring of psychic prowess at a young age. But the power quickly proves to be a liability when he realizes the potential danger in his skills. Choosing to suppress his power, Mob's only present use for his ability is to impress his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who soon grows bored of the same tricks.

In order to effectuate control on his skills, Mob enlists himself under the wing of Arataka Reigen, a con artist claiming to be a psychic, who exploits Mob's powers for pocket change. Now, exorcising evil spirits on command has become a part of Mob's daily, monotonous life. However, the psychic energy he exerts is barely the tip of the iceberg; if his vast potential and unrestrained emotions run berserk, a cataclysmic event that would render him completely unrecognizable will be triggered. The progression toward Mob's explosion is rising and attempting to stop it is futile.

Mob Psycho 100 is a very entertaining anime to watch. It has fantastic characters, fun humour, funky visuals and a story designed to get the most out of them.

One of the best things about Mob Psycho 100 is its characters. They're well written characters, each with their own unique weaknesses and strengths. They get jealous, sad, happy, angry, try to exploit each other or grow as a person and forgive each other. They all have unique personalities and its fun to watch them interact in the comedic setting of the anime. The only real exception to these characters seems to be the main character, Mob, ... who has a complex about his emotions and doesn't show them. Mob bottling up his emotions makes him a massively flawed character which balances out his overwhelming psychic powers very well.

There is no clearly defined goal in Mob Psycho 100's story. The story is driven by its well written characters and their interactions. The story often plays out in unexpected ways, partly due to the comedic nature of the anime. This is a very good thing since it prevents a theoretically overpowered main character from dictating how the story goes. It also leaves a lot of room for some pretty great comedy while still having some nice action scenes too.

The art style in mob psycho 100 is silly. It can look ugly sometimes and it can look exaggerated but this seems to be done on purpose and suits the anime really well. The music and voice acting were both good.

Overall Mob Psycho 100 is definitely worth watching for most people. Just try not to get scared away by the art style in the first two episodes.

Mixed Feelings

There is a certain list of names weebs are often bringing up, which also includes One, who is the author of 2 popular action anime. One of them hides behind the mask of parody, and this one tries to portray the emotional conflict of the main character. It's also worth noting that I had beef with the show because the studio squander the opportunity to name the sequels Mob Psycho 200 and 300.

Mob 100 Psycho starts off as a comedy and it tries to be funny, anime funny, with looney tunes sfx. But this type of comedy works if you are already high or yet ... to reach the puberty. After a few episodes, however, it changes focus to a character driven story with supernatural elements. Here Kageyama, the main character, tries to deal with his childhood trauma involving the use of his psychic abilities. And despite having them he refuses to rely on them in his daily life and instead strives to become better in other areas. And I will admit that the anime does a pretty good job executing it, but it could've been even better if it had committed to this concept from start to finish. Unfortunately, the seriousness of the theme is dampened by aforementioned comedy sequences, and quirky character design that reminds me of some fucking one piece. In latest episodes Kageyama completely dumps the idea of not using his power and starts showing it off left and right. It happens in the latest arc featuring the most creative plot premise never done by any media before: fighting an evil organization whose goal... what was that, ah... to conquer the world. I don't know how long it took for One to come up with it. Ultimately, the quality of the story can be compared to a man balancing on a fishing line. He takes few steps, accidentally sneezes, falls down, and breaks his neck.

The animation is good that it would easily make up for the story, but in the current state it rather makes up for the art style. A unique art style is a good idea only in case if I don't have to question myself if a palm larger than a head is deliberate artistic choice or some one fucked up the human proportions. The ost is good but only few tracks are memorable. The opening and ending are amazing, though, they have outstanding visuals, banger songs, and they also perfectly fit the show.

Mob Psycho 100 features lots of fighting scenes and the intrapersonal struggles of Kageyama, and both of them are at odds because fighting is against his original motivation. The world building doesn't help either, given that every year several shows reuse the same concept so it's gradually becoming oversaturated. The modern world with demons where no country but Japan is present, the chosen ones with some supernatural abilities are the only ones who can slay them, and in the end the conflict between wielders and demons changes to wielders versus wielders.

Mob Psycho 100 (2016)

Who knew that those Youtube videos of fights would be literally the best bits of the whole show. This has to be one of the most overrated 5/10 shows I have seen in a long time. It's just an Isekai without leaving the world, so yes not an Isekai but still the overpowered main, with average friends and people trying to contain him. You do get rage and overpowered moments but then it tries to be funny which the show isn't by making it all comical.

The story tries to be a slice of life but misses out on most of the ... life aspects. It tries to be funny and yet I never laughed. It tries to be full of action but then it is such a small portion of the show and then it has supernatural, yes it does just average in the way it does though. The story itself is pretty dull and it tries to make it seem like there is a point to it all but then there isn't. A slice of life is a slice of life, and a plot is a plot. Trying to do both at the same time just doesn't really work.

The art is oldish, it is comic book style but then boring. It tries to be flashy but it falls down at the last hurdle by hiding mediocre style behind the screen of art style. Characters all sort of feeling dull and it doesn't particularly excite me at all.

The sound should be big, huge, and crazy when they fight but it does nothing. The voices are fine, music is okay but the main thing you want in the fight is lacking. Imagine watching a war film with BB gun noises instead of rifle noises, that is what this is. You can make something look as flashy as you want but if the sound doesn't match then there is no point.

The characters are wide and varied but still dull, boring, and unimagined. Mob himself is one of the most boring protagonists I have ever seen.

Maybe I came too late but then I've watched shows from the 1980s with more excitement than this. Had a read through the source material and it isn't much better. The story is all over the place trying to cover a mass of directions and routes all at once whilst not really doing anything. It is a solid 4/10 in the end for me. The hype train definitely should have gone through this station and not stopped.
