Mob Psycho 100

Eighth-grader Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama has tapped into his inner wellspring of psychic prowess at a young age. But the power quickly proves to be a liability when he realizes the potential danger in his skills. Choosing to suppress his power, Mob's only present use for his ability is to impress his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who soon grows bored of the same tricks.

In order to effectuate control on his skills, Mob enlists himself under the wing of Arataka Reigen, a con artist claiming to be a psychic, who exploits Mob's powers for pocket change. Now, exorcising evil spirits on command has become a part of Mob's daily, monotonous life. However, the psychic energy he exerts is barely the tip of the iceberg; if his vast potential and unrestrained emotions run berserk, a cataclysmic event that would render him completely unrecognizable will be triggered. The progression toward Mob's explosion is rising and attempting to stop it is futile.

Undoubtedly a top-tier anime. Mob Psycho 100 is an exciting and energetic anime with stunning action and high-octane emotions. Mob Psycho 100 will make you feel many things, in many ways, for many reasons. There's so much to love about this anime, but before I get into, I'll just tell you that you need to watch this immediately if you haven't.

Mob Psycho 100 does an excellent job of keeping you invested in the "rules" of this world (being psychic powers and how that translates to strength), but also at letting you drop all pretenses and just enjoying the magic that this anime gatling guns to ... your face at any given moment. Even if this anime was boring, it would win a ton of points just for how beautiful it looks. Thankfully, Mob Psycho 100 is far from boring. The plot is simple and adorable... at least, at first. Eventually, things get dark, the stakes are raised in such a manner that you might just marathon 5 episodes without taking a break, and every character that's important for the season comes together for an explosive climax that guarantees you will love this anime to death.

This is just really good anime. It looks good, and it makes you feel good. It ends in a way that makes me feel the need to watch season 2 immediately. This anime made me feel so much, and the art style was very impressive. This is a must-watch for modern anime fans.

This show seems desperate to be a battle anime.
This show is very bad at being a battle anime.
This show would be great at being anything but a battle anime.

The characters and setting have potential, but the pacing is awful.
They should have spent more time in Monster of the Week style and focused on worldbuilding, then digging into problems specific to this world.
There are brief moments where it seems like the creators understand what can stand out about this show, but they're quickly replaced by bland combat. A genuine shame, because it feels like the world has potential for great stories. Some of the exorcisms show ... what they could do in place of generic combat. Mob reaching his 100% doesn't really offer anything.

Mob Psycho 100 (2016)

Who knew that those Youtube videos of fights would be literally the best bits of the whole show. This has to be one of the most overrated 5/10 shows I have seen in a long time. It's just an Isekai without leaving the world, so yes not an Isekai but still the overpowered main, with average friends and people trying to contain him. You do get rage and overpowered moments but then it tries to be funny which the show isn't by making it all comical.

The story tries to be a slice of life but misses out on most of the ... life aspects. It tries to be funny and yet I never laughed. It tries to be full of action but then it is such a small portion of the show and then it has supernatural, yes it does just average in the way it does though. The story itself is pretty dull and it tries to make it seem like there is a point to it all but then there isn't. A slice of life is a slice of life, and a plot is a plot. Trying to do both at the same time just doesn't really work.

The art is oldish, it is comic book style but then boring. It tries to be flashy but it falls down at the last hurdle by hiding mediocre style behind the screen of art style. Characters all sort of feeling dull and it doesn't particularly excite me at all.

The sound should be big, huge, and crazy when they fight but it does nothing. The voices are fine, music is okay but the main thing you want in the fight is lacking. Imagine watching a war film with BB gun noises instead of rifle noises, that is what this is. You can make something look as flashy as you want but if the sound doesn't match then there is no point.

The characters are wide and varied but still dull, boring, and unimagined. Mob himself is one of the most boring protagonists I have ever seen.

Maybe I came too late but then I've watched shows from the 1980s with more excitement than this. Had a read through the source material and it isn't much better. The story is all over the place trying to cover a mass of directions and routes all at once whilst not really doing anything. It is a solid 4/10 in the end for me. The hype train definitely should have gone through this station and not stopped.
