Additional Cast and Production Staff for 'FLCL' Sequel Announced

The official website of the theatrical sequel of FLCL announced additional voice cast and production staff on Wednesday. The first part of the sequel, FLCL Progressive, will debut on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block on June 2 at 11:30 p.m. EDT, and later open in Japanese theaters on September 28. FLCL Alternative, the second sequel, will premiere on Toonami in September and screen in Japan on September 7.

Kazuya Tsurumaki, the original creator of FLCL, will supervise the sequel project. Katsuyuki Motohiro (Psycho-Pass) will act as the chief director, scriptwriter Hideto Iwai will pen the series, and Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Space☆Dandy) will be in charge of the mechanical design.

Produced by Production I.G, Kazuto Arai (Re:Creators episode director), Toshihisa Kaiya (Wasurenagumo), Yuuki Ogawa (Hajimete no Gal assistant director), Yoshihide Ibata (Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon episode director), Kei Suezawa (Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari animation director), and Hiroshi Ikehata (Flip Flappers episode director) will direct the six-episode FLCL Progressive series, with character designs by Chikashi Kubota (One Punch Man).

The next six episodes in FLCL Alternative will be helmed by Yutaka Uemura (Zankyou no Terror assistant director) and Kiyotaka Suzuki (Gatchaman Crowds Insight assistant director), featuring character designs by Yuuichi Takahashi (Stranger: Mukou Hadan key animation) at Production I.G, studio NUT, and REVOROOT. Japanese voice actress Mayumi Shintani and English voice actress Kari Wahlgren will reprise their role as Haruko Haruhara in FLCL Alternative, one of main characters from the original series.

Alt-rock band the pillows will perform the theme songs "spiky seeds" and "Star overhead" for FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative, respectively.
