'FLCL' Reveals Theatrical Sequel Details

During the FLCL 2 & 3 panel at this year's Anime Expo on Sunday, it was announced that the previously announced sequel of the OVA will be a two-part theatrical film spanning for six episodes length each. Additional staff members for both parts were also announced and a teaser video has been revealed, featuring the pillows' new song "spiky seeds." The anime will screen in Japanese theaters in 2018 and will be shown as two six-episode TV series in the U.S.

The original creator of the series, Kazuya Tsurumaki, will supervise both projects; Katsuyuki Motohiro will be the chief director; Hideto Iwai will pen the anime; Kiyotaka Oshiyama is in charge of the mechanical design; and the pillows will perform the theme songs for the sequels.

I hate it so much as i love first season.... after 17/18 years? c'mon is it next deal as stupid season 3 of code geass? just let it die in peace and its mighty. I really hope it wont be aired or it will be at least as amazing as first one.....

still i think its just wrong to release it

I just hope it's gonna be as over-the-top goofy nonsensical as the first series. idk it probably won't top the original, but it bodes well that the same band is doing the music :D

I'm excited but bracing myself for another Astral Ocean. This didn't really need a sequel. It was perfect the way it was.

Still, I'll be hoping for the best.

Wow, it makes me feel for all the people who are gonna experience that torture in cinema.

The trailer looks kinda interesting though, but FLCL is still FLCL... I'd like it if they go into a more serious path.

Interesting to note that both movies have different staff, I wonder if the difference in style would be noticable enough.

I dont know why people are so hyped about this, FLCL was good, but nothing so good as to generate all this supposed hype, that it even comes to the movies and all.

Anyways, I m curious to see what will be born from this, but these will probably only be available to western audiences in 2019, so I doubt I can say something like, I m looking forward to it.

I'm glad the creator and the pillows are back, but that trailer was really underwhelming imo.
The animation looked nice, but I don't like the new character designs at all, they look really out of place to me.
I'll probably still watch it though, just not gonna keep my hopes up for anything too promising.

Any info on the "true" format? Is this thought as two movies and the cuts are an afterthought or is it conceived as series?
