The 51st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump of 2018 announced on Monday that Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi's post-apocalyptic adventure sci-fi manga Dr. Stone is being adapted into a TV anime for a July 2019 premiere. Voice actor Yuusuke Kobayashi (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) will star as the protagonist Senkuu.

Synopsis
One fateful day, all of humanity turned to stone. Many millennia later, Taiju frees himself from the petrification and finds himself surrounded by statues. The situation looks grim—until he runs into his science-loving friend Senkuu! Together they plan to restart civilization with the power of science! (Source: VIZ Media)

Inagaki (Eyeshield 21) and Boichi (Sun-Ken Rock) began serializing the manga in Weekly Shounen Jump last March, which has seven volumes in print as of September 4. Shueisha will ship the eighth compiled volume on December 4.

VIZ Media published the first three chapters of the manga in English simultaneously with the Japanese release as a part its Jump Start initiative, and has since been serializing the series in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The second volume went of sale on November 6, and the third volume is scheduled for a January 1, 2019 release.

Dr. Stone tied for 15th place with Sumito Oowara's Eizouken Niwa Te wo Dasuna! manga in male readers' division in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi rankings. The series also won second place in the 4th Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho this past August.

Jump Festa 2019 will feature a stage event for the anime at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba on December 22, where Inagaki and Yuusuke Kobayashi will make an appearance.

How do you know which studios are going to be available?

Just making a wild guess really. I just look at the upcoming seasonal anime and see which studios will be producing something. My theory is that the more active a studio is, the less likely that it will be available to work on a certain anime. Some studios like A-1 Pictures are pretty huge and are known to tackle several airing anime at once, while smaller studios like Kinema Citrus would probably work on one anime per season at most. It's just a guess though, so I could be wrong. I just don't want a studio and its staff to overwhelm themselves with too many projects since that may affect the quality of the anime they produce.

Oh I get it. I think, to match the manga's art it needs to be a studio such as Bones or Madhouse

I've heard a lot about Dr. Stone. I'll be looking forward to it next year. Question now though is which studio will be adapting it? Let's see who's available for Summer 2019...

Not J.C. Staff...
Not Bones...
Not Madhouse...
Not WIT...
It could be MAPPA...
Not Kinema Citrus...
Not Cloverworks...
A-1 Pictures? Well...they're active all year round, so it's a possibility...
Maybe LIDENFILMS...
White Fox doesn't look too busy, so maybe them...
Pierrot looks free...but it's Pierrot...
8bit? 8bit could do it if they're free...
Wait...I don't see Studio Deen anywhere...

It was only a matter of time. Love this manga so I am excited for the anime. Hopefully some competent studio adapts it, I would personally like Production IG.

Just please don't give it to some shit fucking studio like JC, Clown, or Toei
Toei is actually kind of stepping up its game lately. They are doing a fine job with the WCI arc in the one piece anime, and I never and I mean NEVER compliment the one piece anime.

Might have to check out the One Piece anime again the pacing for that series was just brutal.

Nice, hopefully it's 26 episodes.

At least Boichi is not in charge for the story, maybe this one won't be a trainwreck.
While I agree that Sun ken rock was Horeshit. His latest manga "Origin" is really good and miles above anything he did in the past. Definetly recommended.

Now that Cloverworks isn't part of A-1, A-1 itself have less shows and Cloverworks has the quantity. This year they did three shows, for example so I guess that next year it'll be the same and they'll be free.
