A press release held on Wednesday has announced an original anime project collaborated by three companies: DeNA, Sotsu, and Bunka Housou, titled Project ANIMA. Three original anime with different genres are planned to be released in 2020 under the project. A project visual by Mengo Yokoyari (Kuzu no Honkai mangaka) has also been revealed.

Anime ideas will be accepted through applications in six ways: novel, script, manga, planning, illustration, and movie, via various platforms such as Manga Box and Estar for each anime. The first anime, which will center on sci-fi and robot as a theme, will be produced by Satelight. The applications for the first anime will be accepted between February 1 and April 15 of next year. J.C Staff will be producing the second anime, which will be fantasy-themed. The applications for the second anime will be accepted beginning next April. Doga Kobo will animate the third anime with a genre to be revealed at a later date, and will accept applications next summer.

The press release was joined by Yoshiyuki Katayose from Bunka Housou, Ryouta Yasue from DeNA, Hideyuki Nanba from Sotsu, Takeshi Hiramatsu from Doga Kobo, director Shoji Kawamori (the Macross series), Yuuji Matsukura from J.C Staff, producer Yuusuke Kamimachi from DeNA, and seiyuu Hikaru Midorikawa (ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka) for a panel talk.

A radio show will also begin on January 4, 2018 on Bunka Housou to further introduce the project with the guests. It will be hosted by seiyuu Toshiyuki Toyonaga (the Durarara!! series), Mikako Komatsu (the K project), and Shiori Mikami (the Yuru Yuri series).

Satelight and Sci-Fi. Definitely looking forward to that. And it's pretty much a given that Kawamori will be supervising the project one way or another.

J.C. Staff and Fantasy go hand in hand, so I'll be looking forward to that as well.

Doga Kobo seems to be the wildcard, but they do a bit of slice of life....

Wait...

J.C. Staff = Fantasy = Past
Doga Kobo = Slice of Life = Present?
Satelight = Sci-Fi = Future

2020 isn't actually that far off, so whatever ideas they have, they better get on to it fast.

#Mindblown

But in all seriousness this sounds pretty promising, not going to lie.

I'm quite looking forward to this.

This sounds like a nice idea. Maybe we will get some fresh & unique anime from this project.

I don't get it. If these 3 anime are different in genre and studios, then why announce it together as a collaboration project? It'd also be fan-written so I don't think that these 3 anime will be connected to each other. So isn't this is technically a separate project from each companies with different studios and stories?

This project is about 3 companies collaborate to finance 3 different anime, not 3 anime studios collaborate to make 3 different anime. Just read the news again if you missed the details.

About Time for some innovation in anime.

The reason? It's a collaboration project between 3 companies.

Woah, interesting concept; picking genre first then accepting idea submissions. I hope this project goes through to the end!

Very nice PROJECT ANIMU is coming to life.

Hope the originals they come up with won't be another traveling to game world but only as a tree this time.

Yeah im not putting too much faith into these projects, but we need as many original's as we can get so its worth a shot. There are things you can only do with an anime original and how the structure of the story is handled that you simply dont have the freedom to do with an adaption.

Original anime is worth a shot.

I'm not surprised by the genre choices of the studios listed so far. If I had to guess, Doga Kobo will take on a slice of life show.

This could be a big thing in the future but we'll have to wait and see. 2020 is still a bit far away.

Anima? Like one of the RWBY continent of the Mistral Kingdom?

Dec 20, 2017 5:53 AM by CrotakuShinobi

It sounds pretty promising, but I'm confused by the choice of studios and the timing of the project. I hope that it will be something really coolest, and not just another generic romance or a fan service with girls of questionable orientation.
