'Digimon Universe' Project and TV Anime Announced

The July 2016 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine, which will go on sale on May 21, has announced a new project in the Digimon franchise which will include a new TV anime.

The project titled Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is a collaboration by Bandai, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Toei Animation. In addition to an anime series, it will include a line of hobby toys and video games that will be launched in the fall.

Digimon Universe will be introduced at International Tokyo Toy Show 2016, which will be held June 9–12 at Tokyo Big Sight.

Tamers, Frontier, Savers get unjustified hate. They are all on par with the first 2 seasons if not even better. People forget or just ignore that Digimon Adventure had the worst villains by far as well as weak/nonexistent development for Digimon partners. Digimon Adventure 02 just became more and more jumbled as it progressed. Tamers had the best character development for every important character and the story was well thought out. Frontier was weak in early episodes but by the end the characters were nicely developed and IMO has the best soundtrack out of all seasons. Savers had the worst early episodes out of all seasons, but when it got going after episode 11 it brought great story twists and had the best action out of all series, had good villains and all characters including Digimon partners were developed nicely. It is my favorite season. Xros Wars was a mess and Young Hunters sucked. I expect this new season will suck as well. It just looks like it's made for selling new toys and to pander to kids with iPhones.

new digimon is always welcome! hopefully when it's eventually dubbed in english, they use the classic soundtrack from the old dub :D

I disagree. The first 30 episodes were there for character development, and to make sure you liked the characters (also introduced the DEVAs). Anyway, the first episodes also had some of the strongest writing, which helped, IMO.

Hopefully it's something more traditional with standard forms. The whole fusion thing from Xros Wars put me off from watching it when it aired (I'm still planning on seeing it eventually), but I didn't mind the Sentai approach Frontier had.

As long as it's better than Hunters, more Digimon is always welcome.

Don't know what to expect, but I'm more excited about this than the Tri movies. I'm almost up-to-date with rewatching/watching (they never aired anything but the Adventure seasons here) all of Digimon after starting it about a year or two ago and only need to see the last Xros Wars season and Tri now, so I am happy to have something new to look forward to.

Hopefully they found an interesting new approach to the franchise again.

@lukeycow You didn't miss anything because those series were never meant as sequels. A good example is Frontier who was a sentai-like exploiting the Digimon franchise.

wait I didn't except a new series of Digimon after all these years xDD
the first 4 were good for me! I loved Adventure & 02, Tamers was great and Frontier was good! anyway after the fourth one it became stupid but Japan kept on releasing new anime digimon xD anyway Tri is enough for me at the moment even though still it won't beat the first season xD + Wada died and he was the perfect singer for Digimon series!! I'm worrying about the rest Tri movies more than the new series xD and the new series probably will air in Fall?
