| Is the anime version of gif vs jif They pronounce it jibli in japanese, but the word itself is Italian and is pronounced gibli. So there's no correct pronunciation afaik, just whatever language you speak. |

| This debate makes sense in the context of gif/jif because "g" is an inherently ambiguous letter pronounciation-wise, but in the case of "Ghibli" when it literally has an h after it, I don't think there's any ambiguity. Gi-blee, of course. Also, I see a lot of people here saying that they use the j pronounciation because it's closer to Japanese, even though "Ghibli" isn't a Japanese word as far as I know? |

Listen (0:51) to how this Japanese presenter pronounces it: Jee-bu-ri [ジブリ]. Also fun how she says 'studio': sta-jee-o [スタジオ]. While you can score a lot of weeb points, slipping this 'correct' pronunciation into an english sentence would be strange. Therefore both gib-li and jib-li are both equally valid and wrong. |
