R.I.P.
He gives some reasons but it really comes down to him not making enough money.
The attempt of him trying to go legit with licensing batoto exclusives is proof enough.
It'll be replaced quickly anyways.

:'''(

This will definitely affect aggregator sites who use bots to get manga from Batoto and publish it on their sites. And this will definitely hurt so many scanlation groups, especially smaller ones who don't have a hosting site and rely mainly on Batoto. Really hoping for an alternative Batoto to be made.

That's devastating. I keep my to-read list in a separate browser in links to Batoto. And I am afraid it will turn out some stuff was available only there, not to mention it'll be hard to find an alternative. Truly, these are hard times. Mangatraders fell bad, now bato.to is almost gone...

Well, fuck. Whenever I want to read a manga batoto is always the first site I go to, I've been using it for a couple years now. I can understand Grumpy's reasons but at the same time I don't see why he can't pass the management on to someone else. Sad to see it go but as some have mentioned in the thread we'll probably see a new alternative soon.

There are alternatives, but none is as good as Batoto.

Say what you want about Kissmanga, but at least they don't ruin scans by plastering website watermarks all over the pages like Mangahere and such.

So what? what does it have to do with my post? Kissmanga isnt an alternative for batoto cause batoto was a site where scanlators were uploading chapters themselves and then those chapters were automatically shared to other aggregator sites (such as kissmanga) through scraper bots

are you seriously that stupid? Now the only way for kissmanga to get new chapters will be directly from scanlators' site

https://nyaa.si/ is still up though.

This is quite a shame, there are a few sites even comparable to Bato. The closest that I know of is probably either Mangasee, Spectrum, or direct from the scanlators site, but each have their cons. If anyone knows something better let me know.

Sorry, but lacznosc is making a point that is in fact very much true. All those aggregator sites were scraping from Batoto. You are able to read scanlations because of scanlation groups. Batoto revolved around scanlation groups uploading their works onto the site, with that gone, it's going to be really hard for aggregator sites to find a way to get manga unless a new alternative is made where groups can upload their manga again or having to make bots for every single scanlator site, which will be a pain.

And I don't think a lot of scanlation groups wants to personally upload their works onto aggregator sites, as these sites gain profits through ad revenue when scanlation groups do it basically for free. And what made Batoto so great was that they credit scanlation groups, aggregator sites do not.

Also, one of the reasons the owner of Batoto is closing was because of scraper bots.

I would've used Batoto more back then if they actually sort out their chapters and not make a mess out of the different languages scanlations. Navigating through the chapters was a real pain a while back when I attempted to use the site.

On a side note, KissManga is trash, pages would sometimes bug out and would not load at all, and there's no error sign so people could've missed out on the page entirely. Iirc it was either Cage of Eden or Defense Devil that I read back then that they had missing pages. (the first few pages and/or the last few pages)

Have been a fun ride using it. Something similar might pop up soon. I can read Japanese but still not fluent enough to read them fast enough compared to English translated ones. I relied heavily on Batoto for my manga.

Didn't know there was a setting for it. Would've been better if they sort it by the different translation languages, they had the source 1/2/3 category thing iirc

Such a sad thing, I liked to browse the site randomly, found two of my favorite mangas this way and put a load of them in my ptr too. Also loved to read peoples' comments on manga pages. But reading that post it's completely understandable, gotta feel for that guy who had to basically give up an essential part of his life during seven years just to keep the site working...

And what's worse, some small manga that were translated long ago and whose scanlators' sites don't even exist anymore can basically only be found on batoto, this will make some works very hard to find on the internet... at least he said that he told the site staff in advance, so hopefully they have a full back up of the site and a replacement already in the works.

Hopefully some folks would backup enough of the site to eventually let them turn up elsewhere. Kind of sad as Batoto was one of the few manga readers that seem to give back to Scanlators (or that was the impression I got).

Very sad news. Batoto is the only site I know that was user friendly and respectful towards the scanlators. It will be sorely missed.
Let's hope the staff members who are working on a backup will finish before Batoto has completely shut down and are planning to make something similar to it.

worry not. there will always be a way to read your pirated manga. worst case scenario, you'll have to visit different scanlator's site for different series.

I was disappointed when I saw that closing notification this morning. I used Batoto for many years and have been reading quite a bit there, so it's unfortunate that it is shutting down since finding and setting up any alternative is going to take me a considerable amount of time. I guess this is as good of a time as any to take a little break from all the manga I've been binge-ing through.

Despite how frustrating and annoying it is, I really have nothing to complain about. I got to read a lot of interesting stories basically for free, and I got to do that for many years. It was nice while it lasted. ^_^

Very huge blow for many translators who relied on that site to publish their stuff. I'm reading a few who strictly post there, so I'm curious how they'll continue. Unfortunately, there's no other site like batoto that is so scanlator friendly.

I remember reading on onemanga, then switching to mangafox, then finally finding batoto and made a nest there.

Until the successor emerges we have no choice but to do it the old fashioned way. A list of series, mangaupdates and checking the titles left on the list that didn't appear in mangaupdates.

I just hope someone really is making backups of all the manga like he mentions, and then they upload them somewhere else if not make their own site. Because a ton of small groups or individuals just uploaded straight to Batoto and there's literally nowhere else you can find those scanlations.

I'd be backing up a ton of manga myself but Batoto just broke FMD again and I don't have the time to cobble together my own scraper and jump through the hoops of refreshing the cloudflare cookies.

the only altenative visible for now is using baka update latest release feature and directly goes to translator site....
https://www.mangaupdates.com/releases.html

as long there is no batoto alternative, pretty much the rest aggregator site (which lot of it already mentioned here because people think it is alternative site) pretty much dead as well (lol)...

the positive news about this is those big translation (which already has their own domain) will get more visitor for a while, while small or anonymous or specialized series translator will suffer...

definitely waiting how long until the alternative site will popping up... might take few month ....

pretty sure they mainly ban porn... or it was requested by the 3rd party (which usually DMCA)... i mean, some of most violent offensive stuff stll there... the one that faster than batoto mean they already hosting it on their own site since some site kinda affraid batoto open policy might affect their own site visitor.. like rapeman scanlation stuff is oftenly accused deleted because translator alt-right joke, when usually, it was them that usually stop caring (yes, i like visiting their site because i like series they translated and they done good job, why would i care about their political opinion?), or it was DMCA attack (since they mainly translated web manga which usually fast enough to get official english translation, like maou no hajimekata (dropped) gate jsdf (DMCA) or murenase shiiton (licenced), or RE:Monster (dropped)

the scanlator who already has their own site wouldn't have a problem, smaller scans that doesn't have their own site and purely updating their stuff on batoto might hit the hardest... tribuo scans (mikakunin de shinkoukei, watari kun no XXX, ETC) already saying they drop their translation until something like batoto appear if they still care or other translator is welcomed to pick them up...

some big translation (jaiminis box and meraki scans) is offering their site to hosting smaller scans works until alternative site made....

manga fantranslate might dies for a while, since agregrator site mainly stole from batoto as well and most scans is mainly rely on batoto now before their own site become big or series their work on getting licenced, soo, on the bright side, maybe this time to complite my ptr...

if batoto alternaitve already been made, i hope someone notice me too, since i am barely active anywhere else except batoto and here....
