It was announced today between the broadcast of Gin no Saji 2nd Season and Samurai Flamenco that Taiyou Matsumoto's manga Ping Pong will receive an anime adaptation in Spring 2014. It will be aired during the noitaminA block, along with Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin.

The only other information revealed was that Masaaki Yuasa will be directing the anime.

I'm really excited for this. I wasn't big on Kick-Heart, but that didn't do much to change how fond I am of Yuasa. And Taiyou Matsumoto's manga are apparently excellent, although I haven't read any of them myself.

Goddamn, it's serialization ended in 1997. There is always hope.

Looking forward to it, looks fairly interesting and unique.

There's actually already a Japanese live action movie on the same series, which I suggest checking out. I'm excited for this anime, just cuz I like ping pong.

OHMYGOD YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

I have been waiting so long for this.

Ping Pong is one of the best manga I have ever read, and after the success of Tekkonkinkreet I'm really surprised it took this long for another anime of a Taiyo Matsumoto manga to pop up.

Please no fan service, please no stupid comedy... I hope they stay faithful to the source material.

Also... Masaaki Yuasa.YESYESYES.

Absolutely cannot wait.

I hope this finally encourages Viz to publish the manga in English.

I somehow doubt there's going to be any effective fan service..

OnT: I guess I'll wait for this to air. Apparently judging from everybody's reaction, this manga is pretty damn good.

Good news. I really liked the manga. Hope they adapt Matsumoto's art style well, and if Viz or some other comapny licenses the manga or (and) Matsumoto's other work, Hanaotoko, I would definitely buy them.

I just realized the voices for the narrators are like Free!, are the same casts from Free! going to voice the characters in Ping Pong the Animation? (As other staff and casts are not announced yet)

I don't think so. The "main narrator" is definitely Kouki Uchiyama, don't know about the other but he doesn't sound like any of Free's seiyuu...

Interesting. The manga has been sitting in my plan to read list on MU for more than 2 years, I have no idea why I sort of forgot about it and never got around to read it.

Anyway, sounds like a possibly good one, I'm looking forward to it. The spring season this year is shaping up rather nicely, isn't it?

I uploaded all those character images, plucked the manga to pieces... and Peco is hot sauce. I just hope for a super faithful adaptation so I can sleep soundly at night.

Yuasa and Matsumoto...it's perfect, this is an amazing match-up. He's pretty much the perfect director to do an anime of a Matsumoto work and do sufficient justice to it.

Will this be 11 episode or 26? Just curious since the Apollon adaptation suffered because of pacing issues, so if this is a little longer, it would make things alot more managable.

12 or 13 episodes seems adequate for a 4 volume sports manga. Anymore than that, and the anime will be ruined by lots of filler.

Can 2014 get any better? This series is simply amazing, I never thought I would see this one get an adapation. This Mushishi and Jojo, it feels like all my Christmases have come at once.
Now being incompetent – that’s what’s best, really. To be completely obtuse. To be so oblivious as to never think for a second about one’s purpose in life, to never think about the meaning of life, to never think about the value of life. Then this world would be paradise. Calm, peaceful, and serene. Trivial things would be major, and major things trivial, and life could be lived to its fullest.

Finally i love this manga
"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

The fact that this is a manga written and illustrated by one of the most amazing artists in the history of Japan that's getting an anime adaptation 15 years and it's gonna be directed by the KING of surrealism makes me jump in happiness.I seriously cannot wait for the anime to air.

It's a match made in heaven, I couldn't have thought of a better person to adapt a Taiyo Matsumoto manga than Yuasa Masaaki.
