I wish the entire anime just consisted of Char beating the crap out of Kamille.

Also: lol at Char wearing sunglasses even in a flashback.

Must be his replacement for the mask, lol.

Never thought I'd see Char lose his cool here, but I don't blame him. Seems like the remains of Zeon will play a big role here. Knowing that Char's Counterattack exists though... I'm really curious to see how this all plays out.

Awesome episode, I wasn't really expecting Char to act the way he did either. Things just got even more interesting with this episode.

Now I'm sure there isn't a sane woman in this series~
Char was indeed off chara since Haman Karn appeared. With the return of the Zabi family I think things will get more intense from now on, considering the fact that they cooperating with the Titans the AEUG will have a tough enemy~

Zeta Gundam is really testing my patience: it's been really disappointing as of late.

The first half of this episode was very interesting, seeing the development of things, beings, and organizations working in the shadow. But what was with that engagement near the end? What happened to the revered skills of the mighty Red Comet? He hasn't shown us why he was known by that name in a long while, and it definitely can't be attributed to being emotionally and psychologically affected by what he encountered this episode.

Reccoa is also pathetically useless. No doubt her foreshadowed death is going to be as a result of idiotic and painfully hard-to-watch actions on her part. While her actions certainly lie within the realm of possibilities, I feel it is very out-of-character for the Reccoa I thought she was.

Yeah, I laughed, too...It was almost like that one time he kept his mask on during a formal party in MSG.

He's a sharp kid, that one. Bright was in shock.

Char has some strong convictions. He totally lost control there. Char is always so well-composed, too.

"I've never betrayed anyone in my entire life." Eh? Everything Char said in this episode was kind of awesome, though.

Thought for sure Reccoa was going to die here especially since she was kissed earlier.
We all know that kisses mean death around these parts.

Beating the crap out of Kamille really does sound like the best plan, you're a smart one Char.

Anyway these are the kind of episodes I was expecting when I came into the oh so famous Zeta Gundam.
It's a shame that they are starting now in the 30's...
So many other episodes like the ones with Fa and the kids were such a letdown.

Yeah, someone needs to kill her. That chick is getting dangerously attracted to Scirocco. Her role in A.E.U.G. did seems like out of place and inconsistent, maybe if she defected she would get some sort of role though I still want that chick to bite the dust either way.

I want a gif of that scene. It's too good.

Honestly, I do think this episode showed that the anime is, frankly, better off with Char actually being the actual main character. He's an interesting and complex character with his role in AEUG, Zeon, and relationship with Haman Karn. But, instead, we have to watch, Kamille, Fa, the kids, Reccoa, and Sarah fart around complaining and doing being annoying/worthless. Hardly anything about them is interesting or exciting yet the anime constantly puts them in the spotlight.

I mean, what's the point of Char (other than being a plot device to get Kamille into a Gundam) if you aren't going to use him correctly?

Another amazing episode!!!

So the there are still remnants of the Zabi family!?!

I knew it Haman Karn is voiced by Sakakibara, Yoshiko. Same voice actor for Mouar.

Lol everyone is surprise that Quattro is Char except for Kamille :P

I fucking knew it that Mineva girl was the baby was one of daughters of Dozle Zabi where he sent his wife into a capsule with her mother and a baby on it.

Char wasn't able to keep his cool in this episode. Never seen him got worked up.

I love how Char beat the shit out of Kamille to fake it. I lol'd when Kamille said "I hope i wasn't beat around for nothing"

Char seems to know Haman Karn though we didn't see her in Gundam 079 i think??

Reccoa being reckless as ever. Why would you sort out with an injury like that??

Damn looks like Yazan has some new toys to play with. Zeta was almost done!! It reminds me of Amuro when he was electrocuted by round ship.

Damn Char needs to keep his cool for the upcoming battles if he wants to survive.

Can't wait for the next episode!! We're almost at the end!

It's been months but here ya go:

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is definitely better off focusing on Char simply doing what he does best : being awesome. It's such a shame we have to sit through all that teenage pilot stupidity when you have the objectively best gundam character that goes on endless errands for 2/3rds of the show.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Kamille (even though I'm getting tired of his whole bsnss with Reccoa) and the way he developped throughout the show, but I still believe Tomino chose the wrong protagonist this time and missed a golden opportunity to break from the immature teenage pilot prodigy formula and dedicate 50 whole episodes to one of the most intriguing and popular men in the entire franchise.

This episode didn't make much sense to me, I understand Char doesn't like the Zabi family but developing into them making an escape and killing a bunch of zeon soldiers!? especially since they were going there to negotiate and right after the axis saved their lives too. It just seemed like forced and unnecessary conflict. I'm completely sympathetic to Mr. Wong being angry because they just completely fucked up gaining a potential ally.

I also find it hard to believe the Titans and the Zeon would just suddenly form an alliance shortly after the zeon killed a bunch of titan pilots just last episode. Scirocco: "yeah I know you were just shooting at us and killed a bunch of our pilots but lets just forget that happened and be allies to make things more intense for the protagonist".

The only good things about this episode was seeing Mineva and the introduction to Haman who seems like an interesting character. Overall this was probably the worst episode of Zeta I have seen, I was really loving zeta before this so I'll just overlook all the stupid shit that happened this episode and hope nothing this dumb happens again.

"I've never betrayed anyone in my entire life." Is this a retcon? Are Garma and Kycillia still alive in this continuity?

Jokes aside, that was an awesome episode. Char is really the best Gundam character.

Haman is great and it's interesting to see Minerva for the first time since she was a tiny baby. I watched the first few Unicorn episodes before deciding to start the UC saga from the start and build to the miniseries so I've already grown attached to Minerva as a character.

The pointless battle at the end of the episode kind of dragged things down, but I loved Haman's comment about Paptimus being a clown. Paptimus the Clown would make a good online handle.

Poor Mineva who became a little puppet queen. It's sad to see what happened to the daughter of the only relatively "sympathetic" Zabi, she was probably removed from her mother's care very early and raised into this empty shell by Haman Karn. I was angry about that and it was great to see Casval lost his temper because of it (maybe thanks to his own childhood).

"I've never betrayed anyone in my entire life." - Char Aznable (UC0086)
What?! XD

The real ennemies are here ! How will Axis use the Titans to its own benefits when it is so underpowered ? I can't wait to see what Karn has in mind, seems like she thinks Guru Paptimus will be easy to manipulate.
I still don't understand how the ÆUG could have hopes to make ZEON an ally, and I really find the anti-Zeon force Titans / Zeon alliance weird and against nature. That said, I will wait because I know Scirocco has his own secret goal and might try to take advantage of his new relation. Battle of minds between Haman and him?!

Like someone wrote above:

The mech battle of the week was shorter than usual, but it would have been even better without it.
Reccoa... Reccoa... I had some fears about her possible defection but this episode hinted she might die even before, thanks to her doubtful thoughts.

5/5

@Phaetons_Folly Maybe because of a shared trait: they're both prisoners of their family's legacy, aren't they ? (I thought The Origin manga made a nice a-posteriori explanation for that too)

Episode that makes it clear once and for all a concept, and also brings a new battle to be very uncertain of the winner's point of view, Kamille is not the deus ex machina that anything can. The plot takes a big step forward, and the news there. It's nice when you review a character that is relevant to another anime series.

I don't get Char in this episode. He spent the previous Gundam series going out of his way to betray and kill the Zabi family, yet now he seems to be the only one who has the best intentions for the last remaining Zabi.

Very good first half and a very poor second half imo.

Overall the series is pretty inconsistent with its plot elements. I thought they were saying that the Titans had the Zeon within their ranks not even 10 episodes ago and now they suddenly had nothing to do with each other until this episode where they seem to become allies at the very end?

Also Im definitely never watching the next episode previews again

I wish they showed how Char was spending time with Mineva but I guess one cut is all I can hope for.

The introduction of Mineva was pretty dope though, and the scene before it, when Haman with a group of soldiers stood off against the delegation from Argama, is cool too - it's so theatrical in composition. Reminded me of what Ikuhara and Shinbo like to do with such perspectives.

The trick used to get out of prison is sol old lol. Always works, in other Gundams too.

I now get what Char meant back when he was talking with Amuro for the first time - about returning to the Earth Sphere. He even mentioned Lalah then. Was he really an agent of Axis all the time and changed his mind just now? Looking forward to seeing his backstory with this faction. He didn't really betray anyone, though, and has always been an independent man.

I wonder why everyone keeps calling Char "Quattro" when it's not even a secret now.

Recent episodes are really better than many of the previous ones. I hope the new rivalry develops in a meaningful direction.

I'm in the minority that was not impressed by this episode at ALL.

Things I Liked:
- Mineva acting like a child instead of some sort of prodigy.
- General art and animation, as always.

Things I Disliked:
- Haman. I assume the people who like her are aware of spoilers I don't know about yet, but man, manipulating a child into becoming a political figurehead comes in near the top of the "unlikable behavior" list.
- The spider web strategy was useless. It stunned Kamille for like 5 minutes, which is great except HE ALWAYS HAS BACKUP! Why do enemy pilots keep being surprised that any Gundam that isn't the Zeta exists???
- Reccoa is a god awful character at this point. Why are both Kamille AND Char interested in her? I wouldn't want anything to do with that mess. They've also had her face death like 5 times now and she just keeps on living so we can draw this Scirocco nonsense out.
- It took awhile, but the inconsistent character writing is starting to get to me at last. Nobody ever acts in a consistent or believable way...

Why is nearly every character in Zeta completely inept? I miss Emma. She was inconsistent at times too, but still the best female character by far.

Another  great episode.
I don't get why Char let the negotiations escalate immediately but i get his emotional stance on it with Mineva and Haman. But he could have handled it better and maybe choose wiser words and not fail it instantly.
Overall this ep really reminded me of Star Wars with all the escaping and fighting of soldiers inside the ship with blasters. At this point really a uncommon thing in Gundam.

I actually laughed out loud when Casval said he never betrayed anyone, ever. Seems self-awareness isnt his strong suit.

Not that it was wrong to betray the Zeons. They were evil then and theyre evil now. I mostly feel sorry for Mineva, being raised as a fascist pawn of another, more ambitious fascist.

And once again, the Zeons are the enemy. As they should be.
